Fortunately not too much over the top MD trumpet.
The vinyl version is an audiophile classic.  Near reference-quality sound.  More importantly, the music is great.
A bit monotonous, no?
Meh. At least one fellow here phoned it in. 6 for pedigree.

I also tend to agree, and also think Miles was a god, but I did pick his trumpet up out of a work trance, so his style is unique (or patterned into my brain).

I think Miles was a god, but have to basically agree with you on this one.

What a great pairing...I can hear Miles and John Lee but not so much Taj Mahal.
stellar collaboration and an incredible jam regardless of the names behind it.

Amazing! I did not know these three great ones had colaborated. Great boogie!

My thought exactly. I was listening to the end of it, and thinking "okay, it's got a John Lee beat, but the trumpet and jazzy sound? I must've missed Taj's input though. I wanna hear this again!

Amazing! I did not know these three great ones had colaborated. Great boogie!

This whole soundtrack is amazing.

Only time I've been able to listen to a track with Miles Davis  on it.
I'd never hoped to hear Hooker and Davis doing something together.
Just up-rated to 10.  So Cool it hurts!!!!
I had not heard this before. Wahooooo!

Three cool cats.

Painfully repetitive. {#Headache}
Ohh quick off to iTunes

Incidentally - the stunningly superior soundtrack excerpt you heard is from the amazingly inferior film you should avoid (directed by Dennis Hopper, and starring Don Johnson).
Another wonderful soundtrack for Miles was Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (1957). Recorded in Paris. ...also - this is soundtrack material - it might be given that consideration before you comment on its "repetitive" nature.

Just watched that subtitles and all last night, funny they played this song this morning with these comments...

Great movie, and this is a KILLER tune from it!

And let's not forget A Tribute to Jack Johnson, my favorite Miles / McLaughlin collaboration.

Perhaps you did.  There are plenty of folks out there today in all genres using circuit bent instruments...

Check out this site for some additional info:

I never knew Miles did any projects like this either.  I'll have to check out this movie for sure...

Very Cool.

Oh boy - another gin and tonic number!  More like this please Bill - it is such a HORRIBLE day here in the UK........!

I never knew Miles did anything like this! How cool!

My foot's a-tappin'!

Everybody, chair dance!  {#Dancingbanana}
its gems like this that make RP what it is.
Can you say "supergroup"?  {#Cool}
Toes a tappin', fingers snappin', chair dancin'.  And I'm not even a Miles Davis fan!
Now this is what I call a first class group of musicians.  Excellent!  I really don't care if this song ever ends.
My foot's a-tappin'!
Hi Bill, the tracks seem to be jumping all over the place today
Wow, never heard this before and I want to hear it again. Thanks Bill
It just keeps going!
Oh, yes! This is the first time I have heard of this. Thank you, RP, for broadening my musical horizons once again. Must put this on my list to Santa...
I seem to remember thinking the movie was okay, but this soundtrack is awesome. The combination of Hooker and Davis is killer...whether on upbeat grooves like this or more plaintive slow-burn soundscapes. find it, buy it...

Wow, I have been really missing the boat on jazz all these years. I used to think it was all aimless and annoying noodling around but this track proves me wrong. It can also be tediously repetitive!
Gosh Pj! I didn't realize it until you showed me the way. Jazz....is.....CRAP! How did I not see that? I need to go now. I have a _lot_ of people I need to tell. BTW, this ain't jazz, it is it's own thang.

Imagine the credits rolling ... it helped me.

Pure alchemy baby. If there was only Thelonius on bass....
And what Thelonius might that be? Not by any chance the once famous Gummo Thelonius, who in his days used to be confused with a weird piano player, who wore funny hats and used to dance around his piano and who is now long forgotten, as opposed to Thelonius the bass player?
The Hook, Miles and Taj. Great soundtrack. Thanks for including this in your setlist RP.
This gets me going and I'm not usually a fan of this type of music. I want to go to a bar and have a beer.

Also starring Jennifer Connelly's naked breasts. (For you art buffs)

sounds like my theme music....
The foot-stomping fast-walking background riff kinda reminds me of Peter Gunn...
Dang, wouldn't you like to hang out at the bar with these guys!

Or really? If you would just listen a little bit closer to the lyrics of this song you might be edified...perhaps even start enjoying noodles again. Let us know when you've been reprogrammed because I have some great Thai and Armenian recepies that will knock the unholy mixture of boogers and toejam from between your thumb and index finger.

Agree, but wouldn't that be Mingus on bass?
this is one of the coolest combinations ever.
Volume up. Thanks Bill.
marvellous sound

Acoustic bass of course.
Damn! I knew it was Miles, even before looking. But I couldn't figure out why he was playing this style, of course, what style DIDN'T Miles play. I didn't know this recording existed. This RULES! What a lineup! Roy Rogers is one of the most impressive slide players you'll ever hear. THIS is why I love RP!

sounds a bit like playing two different songs at the same time.
Perfect end credit scoring. Bit monotonous on its own, though.
sometimes it's disappointing when a bunch of great masters get together. this is fine, but no where near the sum of its parts. rhythym is quite plodding.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet! 8) \:D/
or does booker t sound like these hep cats? No effin S! Way the hell cool, man! And is it just me, or does this sound a lot like "Green Onions" (Booker T and the MGs, if memory serves)?

The whole is a whole lot less than the sum of the parts.

What drugs were someone on to think to put these three together on a song? And can I have some?
Yow, someone actually gave this song a 2 ?? How is that possible?
