With a black coat on
Running from a bad home
With some cat inside
Now where did you find her
Among the neon lights
That haunt the streets outside, she says
Stay with me
Beautiful girl
(Stay with me)
Beautiful girl
(Stay with me)
She wants to go home
From door way to door way
Street corner to corner
With neon ghosts in the city
And she sings
Stay with me
Stay with me
Stay with me
Stay with me
She's so scared
So very frightened
Anything could happen
Right here tonight
Beautiful girl
(Stay with me)
Beautiful girl
(Stay with me)
She wants to go home
Stay with me
(Beautiful girl)
Stay with me
(Beautiful girl)
Stay with me
(Beautiful girl)
Stay with me
Beautiful girl
for a moment, thought this was the Velvet Underground
I've always known my ears don't work the way other people's do!
I used to sing this song to my 3rd born daughter when she first arrived home :)....I still, occasionally pick her up for a hug and sing this in to her ear - love this song.
Jeez Tayto, your comment cut me deep. in a nice way.

i love that.
this one makes me think of my cat. probably because of that one line in the lyrics...

you re not alone, the same for me
7.5? SRSLY?
Did my part to raise that rating. This is an amazing song, especially with its sparse instrumentation.
I was such a hay-seed when they first came out I kept referring to the band as 'Inks'. Felt like a tool when the girl I was seeing explained to me, "No, it is 'in excess' ".
How I long for the days of being an ignorant hay-seed.
Regarding the song itself..... Beautiful!
ignorance is bliss.

it's a very different world :)
still a wonderful song - a band at their height and one of the last great rock and roll superstar lead singers
Same. Came looking to see if I was alone in this.
I didn't notice that before either. It sounds like they were using a machine and live drums for different parts, which was pretty common in the mid-1980s and early '90s - especially when Bob Clearmountain was involved in the engineering.
Hey Beautiful Girl is your daddy home?
Great song. Please post your pal's thumb-print.
It's a pretty good album...bought it in a cut-out bin for one song and came to love it for a while. The band just resorted a bit much to tried-and-true pop formulas and lyrics. You can't do that for very long before you become yesterday's news. A shame that Hutchence died young, regardless of the embarrassing method.

Also switch the piano for a xylophone.
No could about it, they were a great band for many years. Yes Michael Hutchence died in a stupid way. This in no way detracts from their greatness while he was alive. Is Hendrix any less the guitar god or Janice Joplin less of a diva because of the stupid ways they died? No.

So Beautiful and Sad!
If they are such great artists, then why not just create a new band, new singer, new songs? What they are doing, along with Queen, is trying to take the easy way out and capitalize on their past. David Grohl did it (not that I like the results), New Order did it, and countless other bands broke apart due to death, drugs, irreconciable differences, egos, etc. Very few pull off getting a new singer and continuing as is: Little Feat, Journey, Skynyrd (although some would argue they've done alright). AC/DC is the only coming to mind right now that did well.
Pink Floyd?
Personally I don't care if they keep the name and musical style with a new vocalist just so long as they produce some interesting music. Hopefully they will be able to continue to push their art as musicians. If not, well like you point out it is a pretty familiar story in music.
Me, too, so sad. Loved to watch him perform. He was so dynamic.
...." stay with me..."
Well put.

Decent song, though.
It does indeed look like Pee-Wee Jr. Pervert.
