Whoever it was (I can't bear to search for you now) who mentioned the 'peed-on herons': I hate you. Every time this song plays, that's what I hear. It's worse than Steve Miller Band's "Bingo jet had a light on"

This is a pretty song. Her voice reminds me slighty of Sam Phillips sometimes.

This song is pretty. Ibis' behavior might be more apt, but it just wouldnt sound as good. Based on the band name, album and song name, it would appear this album is brought to you by the letter "H"...nice pleasant song though.

This song entertains me. I think it is the sound of her voice; its undulation, and the way it harmonizes with all the other instruments (in this song, especially, it is an instrument). Too, the bass line evokes motion - flight, maybe (good in a song about birds) or maybe a canoe ride on a fast moving stream (especially as one glides gently into the eddy at the end). And if history repeats, I'll be humming this song until tomorrow - because it entertains me.

I generally like this song, but not the way she sings "launching". Sounds like lunching. Herons are lunching...

beautiful song..silly comments...these ornithologists should study some more birds and maybe read a little more poetry....they don't seem to get either...sorry, i just love the song and see no problems with the use of language or description of the birds. I've seen quite few herons - great blue, green, night, etc. They are not always solitary and I can certainly imagine them drifting. But beyond that it doesn't seem to me that the song is really about birds at all but about a relationship between the two people in the song. I do think the peed on comment was pretty funny though. I also misheard something funny in the lyrics — the line "all the patient dignity of a human form" sounded like "all the patient dignity of a unicorn" which is much sillier....I'm pretty glad hummingfish didn't stoop to either peed on herons or unicorns.

I'm not a bird watcher, but I've seen plenty of herons in my life. They're usually solitary, which kind of makes this song seem a little silly if you know that... Maybe they should re-record this as "The Heron".

Herons we get in SE England are few, large and fly in a really laid-back way, never seen more than 2 of them at once and sort of do the opposite of disturbing the sky. Are your Oregon herons stressed out in some way so as to fly erratically? Or maybe you get a lot of them - which would be disturbing, especially if you're a (humming)fish... Nice sound to it, look forward to hearing more from the band.

Yes, this is the band Deb was in up in Oregon. She has three solo albums (I believe one is live) and the Weepies have just put out another album online which should be available on CD around March/April '06 allisonscola wrote:

Pleasant if undistinguished song. But not very accurate in its description of herons' flight. They don't soar or drift much--usually flying low, strongly, and quite purposefully. Fun to watch, but not very close to what the song evokes. This is what happens when you let an ornithologist into the room.

Glad to see this on the playlist, I'd thought about uploading it myself but never got around to it. Very enjoyable sound, and it's always nice to hear from obscure bands that don't get airplay elsewhere.
