Someone falls to pieces
Sleeping all alone
Someone kills the pain
Spinning in the silence
To finally drift away
Someone gets excited
In a chapel yard
And catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen
White roses on a grave
And to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
Someone finds salvation in everyone
Another only pain
Someone tries to hide himself
Down inside himself he prays
Someone swears his true love
Until the end of time
Another runs away
Separate or united?
Healthy or insane?
And to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
Even when you've paid enough, been pulled apart or been held up
With every single memory of the good or bad faces of luck
Don't lose any sleep tonight
I'm sure everything will end up alright
You may win or lose
But to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can
Be yourself is all that you can do

Tom Morello can not squeeze our a decent guitar solo to save his life. A really good rhythm guitarist, sucks at soloing.
I had to look up the lyrics as I was trying to figure out why he was saying 'Be yourself is all a chicken do'.

Well, if you live by the delusion that all bands are static or exist solely to create music for your taste, then yeah. But all of these guys still needed to earn a living after previous projects dissolved. Some of it was/is still interesting, particularly where Cornell appears, as his voice was pretty darned special. Audioslave was a a good hybrid, and have a few tunes that will resonate for a long time.
This sucks. I don't get it -- all these formerly rock bands (see Velvet Revolver, which sucks in a similarly bland manner, and I think came about at about the same time) split up and use pieces of themselves to make generic alt-rock crapola. It's terribly disappointing. Bring back the rage, the gardens, the guns, and the pilots, dammit!
The only element that remains is good band naming practises.

No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart.
be yourself...
be yourself...
14 years is a long time to mothball a song, Bill. But this is mediocre and deserving of a another long time-out.

I saw them live last summer and I was suprisingly disappointed. They only played songs of the album, no Rage no Soundgarden. The performance was decent but it left me wanting a lot more.
I can't imagine Chris Cornell doing Rage stuff...
oh come now, any audioslave song but this one, so painfully pretentious...

On this record, yes he does. Not that there bad solos, its just that they sound like they were thrown into the songs without much thought.
Awww...be yourself. That's cute. Cute like stomach cancer.
Good cut--probably the best on an otherwise lackluster effort, esp. following on a pretty rockin' debut.

I love it! :nodhead:
Words can't express how dissapointed I am with this group.

Audioslave showed so much potential when they released the song Cochise, but everything else I've heard (with the exception of Show Me How to Live) has been absolute watered-down pop rock.
Oh well *leaves and puts on Badmotorfinger and Battle of LA*
I agree, Audioslave sounds like Rage Without the Machine without ... well ... the Rage ...
*shrug*

You're not the only one - I really dig these guys, and i think it's so cool that it's this whole positive vibe thing...
call me #2 but i like it too...as with rage, i had to get used to the singer, first
good to hear cornell maturing. i like this song as simple as it is. maybe the ones who dont like it are part of the fake majority? hmmmm
I loved the first album. This song sounds like leftovers from that recording session...the one that didn't quite make the cut.
I hope the rest of the album is a little better.

Awful.
Very ordinary.

hm, i made a negative comment last time i heard this, but it may be growing on me... i'll up my rating to a 5 for now.
RIP Soundgarden. my reaction to Audioslave is vehement indifference (is that possible?). however, nothing changes the fact that Chris Cornell is smokin' hot...

Back in 88, Soundgarden was the first band I ever saw live. St. Andrew's Hall in downtown Detroit. Chris Cornell jumped off the stage and landed on my friend during the encore of Spinal Tap's "Big Bottoms". Ripped his coat. We were so proud...
Audioslave makes me want to puke.
good choice for a first concert
this is the music i try to avoid by listening to rp instead of mainstream radio
One could have only hoped this "supergroup" could have replicated Temple of the Dog's composite output...sometimes the chemistry just doesn't work to its full potential

I MISS SOUNDGARDEN AND RAGE AGAINST MACHINE. I GUESS YOU NEED TO MAKE A LIVING SOMEHOW WHEN YOUR BANDS BREAK UP. LOOK AT VELVET REVOLVER.....
Poor selection from Audioslave. They have some good stuff, but not this track. Chris Cornell is way off this one, as well as the rest of the band. Where is the Rock 'n Roll? Not here .....

Cornell should listen to himself.
New music? It sounds exactly like all their other stuff.
hooray for new audioslave!!!
