This guy needs to find his own voice and leave whatever this is to its original owner: Mick. Plus the music is boring. Geez... I've heard all of this a million times before, like 40 years ago...

I had looked for it for some time and finally found it from a on line site out of Russia through an intermediatary in the UK. A little scary sending CC info to them but so far no problem and that was about eight months ago (I recieved the CD in about 3 weeks). Sorry I cant remember the web site...

Is NOT!

Did anyone say Jagger could? I missed it.
Just not very interesting. He says this song is about his hometown, Chicago. If he's trying to say that Chicago is boring, he's hit the nail on the head.

Maybe if you were more bored, you'd get it. har har!
billy, you're so near, just a few more steps (and no need to stop singing when the water hit's your mouth)
Corgan ! Become yourself again!
i sometimes feel i'm in a billy corgan fan club of one member.
at least i can be president....
I grew up on The Smashing Pumpkins...they opened my eyes to art & music. I saw Zwan live on their tour at the Tabernacle in Atlanta...and it was one of the coolest live shows I have ever seen.
You go billy. you go.
Someone please tell me where I can get this song.
All of the people who say he's ripping off Mick Jagger were born a long time ago, it seems. Honestly, it's just how he sounds. But hey, if he can't sing, I guess Mick Jagger can't either! :D

Perhaps he wrote this when he was staying in a city slightly to the west of Paris.
PS. This song is godawful!

I actually visited Riverview several times, which shows y'all how olde I am. Yep, it's a strip mall now, cop shop, couple of big box groceries, and a muddy river backing it up. But Riverview was fun. It had a cool 'coaster called The Bobs. For a kid, it scared the hell out of me, but I still rode it. I really don't see how this somewhat interesting song translates to a bunch of folks running around with a $1.75 ticket in their hand riding rides and eating crap food all day. However, Roscoe Village, across the street, IS trendy. It was way blue collar twenty years ago, when we movd into the 'hood, but now its pretty yup. I guess any big star that mentions their hometown gets a lot of cheer. Of course, Billy isn't from Chicago. He's from some 'burb out there called Glendale or something. By the time he moved to Wicker Park, Riverview was a memory.
It's actually Glendale Heights, a western suburb of Chicago.

I liken his voice to that curdling noise toddlers make when they've been crying for a very long time.
I agree, though, he just can't sing.

I gave it a 10; with the caveat (stated previously) that I don't care for the assignment of 'Godlike' to the 10; I personally feel that some songs go beyond Outstanding (9) but I have no means to give a 9.9; but that's just me.

This song takes on a bit of a different meaning around here... in Vancouver (Canada) Riverview is the local Mental Hospital.
Extra funny because Billy Corgan always struck me as a bit cuckoo
This song is awful. Plain and simple. Billy Corgan took his worst song, played it live, and tested to see who would fall for it. Not me, Billy, not me.
Finally got to listen to the song all the way through. Wow! This is excellent! Love the guitar.

Give me a break! Trendy? Get your facts straight. Riverview was an amusement park that was torn down. On the site is a police station, strip mall with a toys r us and a DeVry Institute. hip - NOT. It's just a working class neighborhood.

They are. They already have around 50 songs written according to Jimmy Chamberlin and they may be touring by the end of the year. Check out the SP article on Wikipedia for more info.
Start the touring around the end of first round - Nov 30th or Dec 2nd?
Most excellent, indeed.
Is it just me? I can only picture Mick Jagger singing this.
Guh! I've spent the last two years doing my best to forget that Billy Corgan exists. RP, you're not helping me out.

This guy Billy Corgan is another one of those that has minimal talent that has really made a name for himself in the music biz....

Very cool park for the day, many memories.
Anyone ever been?
Alladin's Castle, The Bobs, Parachute Tower, Chute/Chutes (Shoot?). Very young when I was last, but made an impression.
I heard about how cool Riverview was all my childhood. I literally had dreams of going. And then it was gone befor I got to go.
Chicagoan here.
The song is about this:
https://chicago.urban-history.org/ven/pks/rivervie.shtml
It's not about the Riverfront area, a trendy area along the Chicago river. It's about an area up near the Ukranian village area, where Billy tended to live/hang.
The amusement park was wiped out before I was born (and I'm old) as part of the white flight of... well the link above describes all about it.
In case you give damn, that crack Billy makes about Chicago being the Paris of the West is sarcasm. Billy thinks Chicago is a cultural pit and has said so many times, in his love/hate relationship with the city. He's often kissed and made up to the Metro patrons.
I don't know why you guys are ragging on this song so much. I love it and would love to be able to buy it.

That's Billy's favorite thing to do...drag a solo out ad nauseum. But, I do like the song.

I never thought that Billy Corgan sounded like Mic Jagger... but he does here. Sounds like Jagger on Opium.
...uh, we said, YAY...
The instrumental bits are damn natty, but Billy Corgan's voice is like trapping a cat in a vice.
ahh...no
I think this is a little gem of a song. I especially like Chamberlain's understated drumming.

Nice to see so much positive feedback for Riverview and Friends & Lovers. :)
Unfortunately, you can't buy this show as it is not a commerical product. It's from February 8th, 2003 at Café de la Danse in Paris. There are two known recordings: one of better quality (which is what's here), and an audience recording that has the encore (two extra songs).
This show is basically what would have become the "Djali Zwan," or to put it simply, an acoustic version of Zwan. They were going to record an album influenced by shows like this, but since they broke up, it's obviously not happening. In my opinion, this show IS what they were trying to be, so it really doesn't matter. Zwan was a good band with a short-lived but awesome history of live performances. In my opinion, their studio album does not represent what they were; it was their live performance that showed what they were capabile of. They were a completely different band outside of the studio. Djali was going to show that off a bit more, then it was rumored that they were going to make a harder album after that.
Sorry I didn't have this typed before Bill talked about it after being played! It is interesting how that 13th Floor Elevators song has a similar bassline, though!
The show's tracklisting is here: https://db.etree.org/lookup_show.php?shows_key=146373
Thanks for the summary! Never heard of them. I was at the other end of the house and and thought it was some live acoustic set with the Stones! And I thought I had heard everything from the Stones! Thus my amazement that it was not them. I can see where some will give us their poo poo on the matter, but too bad these guys broke up.
Zwan... I own the Riverview...
Weak.
There are so many people to choose from, maybe someone should start up the www.BrilliantYetPompousAss.com website. :)

I like Corrgan's work, but yeah, he's a pompous ass - it's sad to see a musican with so much insight and talent so sucked up into his own ego - manly because his bands are doomed to be unhappy messes of tension and negativity - get positive, Billy- we're still hanging around waiting- but, we won't be here forever, and neither will you.

As much as I loved the Pumpkins, Billy just can't sing. Like dried cat turds rattling around a tin can.
I heard he was trying to get the Pumpkins back together, I quess you don't know what you got till its gone.

Then how can you say he is a pompous ass. I think he's just into some squirrely spirituality.
Woot! Love that bassline. Nice and thick, you could practically walk across it!
