(Michael Stipe)
Fall over myself
Don't mean to interrupt
I was miles away
Things I forgot
Are the footstools of God
That's how I behaved
I frighten myself and folded my hand
As you talked to God
I love the way you dream (9x)
Even my most base complaint my sweet
My aims were lower
And even though all my restraint my sweet
My aim was clumsy
And even if there's only one thing I want for you
I want for you
I love the way you dream.
I love the way you love the way you dream, one for me one for you
One for me, one for you.
I immediately recognized Michael Stipe's voice. It works here, very well.
I also! It is beautiful.
If you like this then you really should get hold of the DVD. If you're open-minded to what they were trying to achive then it will leave you emotionally challenged. It's even better with a big screen and loud sound system.
This album was introduced to me by my closest friend at the time, and became a turning point in my life when I was really at rock bottom. Time heals, friends move on, but emotions never leave, even if you wanted them to.
Does the repetition of "I love the way you dream" nine times bother anyone else? Drives me nuts... I move fast forward as fast as I can whenever this song shows up.
one for me one for you one for me one for you one for me one for you..................
Stop promoting drugs. That's just stupid.
Every thirs song is Arab. Are there so many Arab listeners or what? It becomes annoying.
Dude, you really have no idea Arabic or middle eastern music :))) Arabic
Kind of sounds like REM?
Possibly because it features Michael Stipe singing?
Hi everyone, this is my upload. The song was indeed already in the playlist, but it was the single version, which is only 3 minutes long. I've proposed to Rebecca the "full version" (8 minutes) which comes from the album. It is longer, but far more interesting and beautiful IMHO. :)
Thank you, Red Dawn!
I love this full-length version of this song. Thanks for uploading it!
Here is a translation of at least part of the (admittedly rather obscure) lyrics:
"You have Adhikara (ability, choice) over your respective duty only,
but no control or claim over the results.
The fruits of work should not be your motive.
You should never be inactive.
Whenever there is a decline of Dharma (world order) and the rise of
Adharma, O Arjuna, then I appear (or manifest myself).
I appear from time to time for protecting the good,
for transforming the wicked, and for establishing Dharma, the world order."
And one bit at the beginning that was lost in the segue is:
"Only Silence remains... because I have to listen to him...
I have to listen to the silence... I have to experience him."
That girl sure has one utterly irritating voice.
Traditional Indian female singing (I hesitate to say which language since India has over a hundred), is typically high-pitched. I hate to say that it has always bothered me as well, but it fits this song very well. I like this longer version.
No idea what it means, just like the way it sounds being sung by the vocalist.
I'm sure I have said it before but,
understanding the language being sung can have zero impact on whether I like it or not.
Who has a problem with this and gave it two thumbs ??
Me. I can't abide animated gifs. So sue me.
I find ignorant, ill-informed bigots annoying, how about you?
what a moron!

But I agree with you, it's a transformative film! It turned me on to Faithless, too (to be honest, so did RP!).

I'm glad you took the time to watch and enjoy it !

Listening to RP makes me realise how narrow minded my musical pallet was.
Thank you Bill for your broad range and interest in cultures!!
Oh Kanata... thank you for that, from here in Guelph. I've been using that C&C reference for decades and have never heard anyone else use it before. Made my day.
I also heard Maori in there. From your username I can see how you spotted it. Chur.
You don't have to guess at the language. Just look it up. Google "the way you dream one giant leap" and you'll find out that it's Michael Stipe and Asha Bhosle. Google "asha bhosle" and you'll find that "Asha Bhosle is an Indian playback singer and an entrepreneur. She is best known for her playback singing in Hindi cinema, although she has a wider repertoire. Bhosle's career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over a thousand Bollywood movies.
Apart from Hindi, she has sung in over 20 Indian and foreign languages.[8]
Born: Asha Mangeshkar, September 8, 1933, Goar, Sangli, Sangli State, Bombay Presidency, British India (present-day Maharashtra, India)...Asha is an excellent cook and cooking is her favorite hobby. She often gets flooded with requests by Bollywood celebrities for kadai ghosht and biryani dishes and has rarely turned down a request. In fact, her paya curry, Goan fish curry and dal are very popular with the Kapoor family of Bollywood. Once, when asked in a The Times of India interview, what if her singing career had not taken off, she said "I would have become a cook. I'd have cooked in four houses and made money." The love of cooking got Asha into a successful restaurant business. She runs restaurants in Dubai and Kuwait called Asha's. Asha's offers traditional north-western Indian cuisine."
So, probably Hindi, but maybe some Maori in there too since she's pretty well-rounded as far as languages go. I have no idea what Maori sounds like, so I'll go look it up!

Update:
narainmg says: What Asha Bhosle sings is a verse in Sanskrit. Hindi does derive a lot of it's vocabulary from Sanskrit.
So there you go! Sanskrit! Whew. Now we all know.
um, I thought that was Hindi and Maori with a bit of Michael Stipe thrown in ... where was the Arabic?

...and it's not even Arabic. It's based on the Bhagavad Gita which was originally written in Sanskrit.

I find taste-policing annoying.
From your statement, it seems that you believe one can only listen to things that come from the same world as oneself. Might try a different radio then...
Any idea what language Cocteau Twins sing in? Me either, but it is also often haunting and beautiful music.
i really like dead can dance too! fela kuti. expensive shit.
ask you lemme see,

Thanks for playing this cd Bill!
I concur. Excellent world album. Love Eddi Reader's contribution on other songs. This makes Michael Stipe tolerable. Recognized it by the first notes. Just brilliant melange.
It sounds like a poor-man's Radiohead married a poor-man's Coldplay, and invited a poor-man's Death Cab For Cutie for a threesome.
But I'm willing to be shown to be wrong ... if there's a better track.
"Passion" (feat. Michael Franti) is a personal favourite (along with this track) This album has so many different styles on it, but they just flow together so well! I'm sure if you give it a listen you will find something you like.
Thanks for playing it Bill!

I was sure that I had already commented on this, but it seems I haven't. So, thanks Mr Riley, I agree with you entirely. ↑9.
ps amazing album
Ignorant and inaccurate comments become annoying. I've listened to RP for years and could count the Arabic-language songs on the fingers of one hand. Maybe you just mean 'forn lingos'? Neither is every "thirs" (sic) song in a foreign language - for the millionth time, don't exaggerate.
I know no Arabic, but the sound of it is distinctive, akin to Hebrew as both are Semitic languages. Very gutteral. The Hindi (I think) in this song is as close to Arabic as Gaelic is to English, or French is to Japanese.
um, I thought that was Hindi and Maori with a bit of Michael Stipe thrown in ... where was the Arabic?

Some things are simply lost in translation...in life. And then found again in unexpected places.

this is a great album. well worth picking up. there's a very cool documentary out about the whole project. i recommend picking that up too.
Hmm - sounds to me like you are dissing a whole culture here..but I may be wrong..
Stopped and looked. Off now to download.
Really nice.

It sounds like a 12 year old playing with a digital editor. Sorry.
This is a LOVELY version!
Really surprised at all the negative comments - I'm enjoying the full version. Thanks!
Me too. Makes the other version feel rushed. . .even though I never thought that before hearing this one.
It's beautiful. Glad you offered it up.
Really surprised at all the negative comments - I'm enjoying the full version. Thanks!
I always go to make a cup of tea when something awful comes on. That way, I don't have to hear it and the chances are something decent will be on after. I come back and this mindless, repetitive nonsense is still £*$*ing going! AAARRGH!
On the plus side, I have finally figured out to get the pound sign on a Czech keyboard. Silver lining and all that. :)
