If you were here
Baby, we'd increase the dose
There was no fear
In my room when we got close
Call me anytime you've got a ghost
You're the only person in the world
I feel that way about
And if you move off to the side
I'll get swept back out
Where it's cold but not that deep
Cause your legs grow
Cold but not that deep
Cause your legs grow
There's a lot that rises up
From the bottom of the lake
And its beam has hit me hard
Now i'm wide awake
Where it's cold but not that deep
Cause your legs grow
Cold but not that deep
Cause your legs grow
If you were here
Baby, we'd increase the dose
There was no fear
In my room when we got close
Call me anytime you've got a ghost

"Cold but not that deep" is the punch line of a joke.

Why does it sound like this band writes songs for someone's little sister?

Ok—this isn't the best song, but Nada Surf is a terrific band. Just don't judge them solely on this song.
For the love of God- turn this off and play some actual music...
A generous 5.
"if you move off to one side, I'll be swept by gout" - wtf? Nurse! My ear trumpet, please!
Why does it sound like this band writes songs for someone's little sister?

Quite a nice and comforting picture, I think!
The quote is from an interview led by Christian Auginer as part of his Thesis (!) on "The Hyperspace-Perspective in the Lyrics of Nada Surf" btw.
Now, that was very interesting to read, thanks! - especially that someone wrote a dissertation on Nada Surf lyrics.

Is that the BBOA singing background? Looked at allmusic but it didn't give credits.

I never paid much attention to these guys before...but this is a pretty good song. The segue from All Cats Are Grey into this was nice.
Very soothing voice and sound. Never listen to these guys before. Thanks Bill.
I bought this album due to two songs: What is your Secret and Always Love. Ended up enjoying the whole disc quite a bit, although I cannot understand why the named the band Nada Surf.
I really do like when this song changes near its end.
A great song about getting older and remembering times gone by...

OK, pithy Jam sandwich commentary aside, what a perfect waste of a great Jam tune. The rest in this set so far are absolute rubbish.
And then came Ennio Morricone to save the day?
Eeek!
7:52 am - Ennio Morricone - Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly)
7:48 am - Nada Surf - Your Legs Grow
7:45 am - The Jam - The Butterfly Collector

I like the group, but this isn't one of their better cuts.

Buckley's voice grates on me; but, I do like the Beach Boys some. . . I just don't find either of them to be pivotal in my musical journey. . .

pretty tune.. good for work as it just blends into the background.
the beginning reminded me of the thompson twin's song from sixteen candles -- now I'd rather hear that :)

If you think this is better than Sufjan Stevens, then all I can say is that some one has vandalized your musical tastes.
HaHa
Yeah, and Bill follows up with SS. Now that is Karma!

Pretty funny to hear these guys. I was taking a CS class at Columbia in 1996 with the bass player (didn't know it at the time). A couple of weeks into the term the professor informed us that one of our classmates had dropped out to follow his musical dream. A month or so later I see a Nada Surf video and recognize the bright orange pants and dark glasses the bass player is wearing (that's all he ever wore to class). Glad to see he caught the dream.
I've been listening to this for a year today and I never tire of it Go Nada Surf!
give it a chance. Its the nastalgia of youth. I do get a little sick of the chorus, but I still like the song.
The "your legs gro-oh-oh-oooow" bit really gets on my nerves. Otherwise, I kind of like it.

Indeed they did, off of High/Low from 1996 I believe. One of the first cd's I ever owned, and still one of the best. There is an immediacy and catchiness to it that have escaped Nada Surf since then. There are some transcendent moments in their later work, but the punch of that first album is gone. Still a group worth listening to, and not to be discounted...great things may still be ahead.
Tom Petty once said you have your whole life to write your first album, but only a year or so to write the following ones.

All right - this is getting freaking ridiculous. You are killing me lady, seriously. If you want to dedicate songs to Cary, call her local radio station. I'm going nuts here. You seem really nice and you really seem to love EVERY SINGLE song that Bill plays, but holy molasses, take a breather!
Okay, we can the biographies too - I mean there are links all over this page - all this text is getting out of control - seriously... nice gesture - but we're okay, really.
Sincere and smooth for late evening enjoyment when it is dark and very cold outside.
Album cover is cool
sorry... this one's a dud. The lyrics are pathetic.
i thought this was Death cab at first, nice little song.
Not a bad song, but kind of blah. I would put this on a mix to relax me, or fall asleep. But I'm at work right now- can we get something a little more upbeat? And didn't we hear this song yesterday??
time for a cup of coffee, need to wake up
Nice enough, but does not immediately grab me like a lot of the stuff off of "Let Go" did.
