Time has told me
You're a rare rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind
And time has told me
Not to ask for more
Someday our ocean
Will find its shore
So I'll leave the ways that are making me be
What I really don't want to be
Leave the ways that are making me love
What I really don't want to love
Time has told me
You came with the dawn
A soul with no footprint
A rose with no thorn
Your tears they tell me
There's really no way
Of ending your troubles
With things you can say
And time will tell you
To stay by my side
To keep on trying
'til there's no more to hide
So leave the ways that are making you be
What you really don't want to be
Leave the ways that are making you love
What you really don't want to love
Time has told me
You're a rare rare find
A troubled cure

No pedal steel, just Richard Thompson's skill with a Strat. Richard Thompson and other musicians heard on this album had met Nick in person during discussions about the album's production but none actually played along in the studio with him. Nick was recorded first by himself and the other instruments were recorded and mixed in later.

Right. I would kill to hear a "Five Leaves Left Naked"-style version of this album. All the production stripped away and just Nick and his guitar.

I'm a big Nick Drake fan

Life is MENTAL just now. I feels like I’m screaming around in ever decreasing circles trying to put fires out. Then this came on and I sat in silence, having a moment of calm listening to Mr Drakes beautiful music.
I now feel so much better than I did four and a half minutes ago. Thank you Nick Drake and thank you Radio Paradise.
Got to go, need to put some more fires out!

Why not write a PhD thesis?
It's because of cheesy, unneeded instrumentation like this that I avoid much of the early Nick Drake. The spare, haunting Pink Moon album, on the other hand... that's a masterpiece.

I have to resist strongly not to go from 9 -> 10. Time will tell.

Doesn't need the embellishment of the pedal steel and piano.
but genius nonetheless

Brilliant. Can't wait for his next album!
Had to get in here and give the prerequisite 10. I shirked my responsibility on this one, must make amends.
Sigh ...
10+, next

marvelous... love it...
One of my favorite ND songs.
I’ve been listening to Alexi Murdoch quite a bit of late and while I like him very much he still isn’t a patch on the original master Mr Drake.
Happy birthday Nick Drake! RIP

Fabulous! This, right after Erik Satie. Sublime mix.
I know this song by some other artist, whose version I've always thought to be the original, but honestly, after hearing Nick sing this, I can't place that other's voice. What can I say? This is gonna keep me up all night. Anyone know who I'm thinking of?

Sounds like it was ripped from vinyl. Not wrong so much as...distinctive. The song still gets a 10. Not sure it gets better than this.
Something is wrong with the recording. Needs to be re-uploaded or something.

Nick Drake= Genius.
This song=everyone concerned with the production should be taken out back, shot, flogged and shot again to make certain that they are fully dead.

The guitar is vintage Richard Thompson from that era. Unmistakable from the first note.
I'd listen to Nick Drake read the phone book and give it a 10.
Ha, a new Nick Drake song -- that's a good one -- this song ranks in my top five of the amazing ND catalog -- RP rules!
