Enjoying this Song in Collioure France. :-)
I love the quiet, haunting and calm sound of those cords. Such a floating and yet deep sound. This is definitely my type of music !

Odd, I've been mostly just lurking here occasionally as of late, but been inflicted with trolls elsewhere that make Man Bird, Stingy, Exselsi et al seem a mild and pleasant sort of people. Could be worse, I must say.

It's a sunny afternoon in Istanbul.
This is *really* close to Bryan Ferry's "Zamba", off of the "Bette Noire" album. Drove me crazy trying to figure it out.

I love the black bird in the freaky picture...beause it reminds me of the Beatles, "Black Bird Signing at the Break of Day..."
It's kind of poetice justice.

Man, I can hear Toots Thielmanns' harmonica with this. Wonder if they ever worked together?
Just to pass the word in case you weren't aware - Bruce Baldassari recently passed away. Here is more information:

This is very beautiful!
Like this more and more each time I hear it
LMAO

This is fantastic.

I agree. A wonderful counterpoint for the fabulous Bela Fleck.

Just found out that poor Butch Baldassari has been ill and unable to play mandolin for a while... very sad. Let's hope he's back playing again soon.

Is it just me or am I hearing a bit of Tubular Bells here!
Damn. Just saw Beaker's post. Will ya look at that?! Same album; two artist attributions. Will wonders never cease...

If somebody is looking for the CD: you have to look for the "Nashville mandolin trio", because that's the correct artist-name! Butch Baldassari is only one member of the trio!
However: I like the complete CD :-)
Hmm. I just found American Portraits at both Amazon and Overstock via Yahoo Shopping as "The Butch Baldassari Trio" complete with album cover.

That was really nice.
I'm surprised it satisfies!

Anyone who likes this music should check out this great disk by Gustavo Santaolalla, better known as the composer of "Brokeback Mountain."
(giant link deleted)
It's called "Roncoco," after one of the many little-known stringed instruments that the Santaolalla, "the Bob Dylan of South America," plays on the disk.
(If I was more technical, I would try to upload a song or two. Maybe someday.)
I appreciate the information, so I'll offer some back. Basic "technical" tip for the day...hyperlink (like I just did) a word or phrase instead of posting gigantic URL's that break the page and make it too wide.
Quite likeable tune, and a very interesting sound.
Great song!!! Very Colourful!!!
This is great! I need to track this down somewhere.
Can't go wrong with the godfather mandolin sound in the beginning.
Butch is one of the greats of mandolin virtuosity. This album is really good, as are most of his efforts. One of the cleanest mando pickers out there.
Ahh yes. Makes me want to aimlessly wander the streets of Barcelona or Madrid.
Wow, this is great!
Thanks for the info Frank.

This is very nice. Some seriously Gilmour-esqe quitar work there.

lovely.
Very beautiful...
This is good music. Reminds a bit of David Lanz or other artists in the Narada Collection. IMHO the mandolin does not dress up the song as much as the guitar work does, but to each artist his/her own inspiration.
I'm glad some of you enjoyed this. It was my very first upload, added within minutes of being submitted! Which lulled me into a false sense of security... subsequent uploads were either sorried within a day or are now in extended "reviewing" stage. Oh well....
Fine.
