Would this do
To make it all right
While sleep has taken you
Where I'm out of sight
I'll make my getaway
Time on my own
Search for a better way
To find my way home
To your smile
Wasting days and days
On this fight
Always down and up
Half the night
Hopeless to reminisee
Through the dark hours
We'll only sacrifice
What time will allow us
You're sighing... sighing
All alone
Though you're right here
Now it's time to go
From your sad stare
Make my getaway
Time on my own
Needing a better way
To find my way home
To your smile
To make it all right
While sleep has taken you
Where I'm out of sight
I'll make my getaway
Time on my own
Search for a better way
To find my way home

Wasting days and days
On this fight

Love this! I have infinite reverence for him... This makes me want to hear "Pillow of Winds." (To me, that was a very Syd-like song, and one on which his singing style was, I think, quite like he uses on this.)

I like to imagine Dave desperately trying to rip into a raucous guitar solo and studio staff having to mute him
Seriously, in my book, he can do anything he wants and I hope he enjoys putting out something that's just 'lovely'. Nothing wrong with that and he's earned it!

by all means give this a 3 or 4 if you hate this, but do you really think this is as bad as the birdy song or various eurotrash - a 1 is simply a protest vote, not a genuine valuation

At least I can happily (while smiling) report that, in the 5+ years since you commented on the rather low rating on this track ( I agree whole-heartedly with you that this should be higher) it has gone up by .2 - now sitting almost in the green 7+ category.
Long Live RP!

This should be rated higher than it is
David's magical tunes are always easily recognizable, are they from Pink Floyd's or solo albums
This one gets better over time. A good choice this week given all those we lost the first 2 weeks of 2016.
An absolutely pure and blissful 9.

The middle instrumental section is vintage Gilmour. Soaring, melodic, a bit melancholy.

I was taking a stroll with Mrs Poacher along our seafront the other day and was mooching in an art shop.
I turned round and came face to face with David Gilmour who was waiting for his wife. It was one of those times where one is torn between giving the man his privacy, or asking to shake his hand and thank him for the tunes over the years.
I decided to give him his privacy.
However, on the basis of this rather poor track, I should have told him that he needs to sharpen up somewhat and try a bit harder.
Arf! 3 at most.

Reading here I don't have to ask..It was DG!!!! not bad for a 1st listen..
Part of the reason I love this song is because Gilmour also did a little ditty called "All Lovers Are Deranged." This one is a polar opposite, demonstrating his versatility.
this song gets better with each listen

David Gilmour's work crowds the top 100 listener ratings here and although it I don't really care for this, if he is satisfied with it who am I to tell the maestro what kind of music he should be making.

Well, this album at least proves who was NOT the genius behind all that great Pink Floyd stuff.........

I think the point really, is that once in a great while, the perfect combination of talents and genius come together and things like Pink Floyd, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles happen.

I disagree. No one ever doubted that Waters was the lyrical and conceptual genius behind Floyd, but Waters' solo albums have suffered under the weight of too much lyric and too much conception, and not enough musicality. Waters took credit for writing most Floyd songs, but when they were at their peak — Meddle, Dark Side, WYWH, Animals, The Wall — Gilmour's musical presence is what gives life to Waters' words. Even on Animals. Gilmour only has a writing credit on "Dogs," but he is all over the album, especially on "Sheep."
And there is some really great stuff on this album. It's mellow, yes, but "On an Island" brings us right back to WYWH and "Take a Breath" brings us right back to Animals. But Gilmour has also matured, and there is an understated confidence to his music here.

IMHO, it would have been mistake to put high hopes in this album :) But although mellow, this issue is not pathetic. If you accept it as is, you should find some fine metaphysics in it.
Fine work, I say. Not the best, but listenable. Just relax.
Only needs volym and lots of it,then its Floyd alright! #9!
