She insists that she's a lunatic closer to the bone
She hardly ever visits upstairs would rather telephone
Well I guess beauty does what beauty does best.
It's beautiful.

She says that's the trouble with reality
it's taken far too seriously, do hope God is good to me
and Santa Claus to the children.
Celebrate. This party 's over, I'm going home.

His essential complications, are hung up on confused
It's a planet full of traffic lights and traffic light abuse,
but that's no stranger than strange, or any other stranger.
He claims its dangerous to be innocent as your the victim everytime,
histories of insanity intruding on the sane.
Celebrate. This party's over, I'm going home.

Are histories of insanity intruding on the sane
and even if your problem is the problem.
Do we have to play those games ?
When a heartache is enough for anyone to shoulder

See that's the trouble with reality
it's taken far too seriously, do hope God
is good to me and Santa Claus to the children
Celebrate. This party's over, I'm going ... home.

Finally read the actual lyrics tonight, and they make sense too, I suppose.

Sometimes when the barbs of life come at you in a cluster you have to fall back, regroup and conduct repairs, no matter how it looks.  If you don't fix yourself, no one is going to do it for you, and you won't be any good to anyone else.  Just spitballing here, but my guess is many of us have been there, maybe most.  The rest are just lucky as hell, sleepwalking through life with a false sense of security, until something hits them from left field or....

I remember many years ago stumbling across this album and they became my new fav band at the time. This whole album is very good. Unfortunately, the subsequent album(s) (2 more I believe) fell short.

Great to hear this, long long time ago I played that record, but will be playing it tonight  Lace Virginia also a wonderful song from that album
Definitely a Congos riff going on here...

Saw them opening for U2 in 1993 in Naples. Great concert.

Interesting, I was thinking the vocals are kinda
Bono-esque.  Great tune.
Fantastic, praise-worthy jam that always gets the blood pumping and the mind and body ready to ROCK! Thanks for getting me fired-up on a yawny day, RP!

That’s how I encountered the tune first. Imagine my surprise when I heard it belted out in a Dublin pub.

I'm hearing Cracker maybe? Could just be me. Good tune though.

Kinda yeah. Also reminds me of a peppier John Hiatt but with a better voice.
Great album! Still listening years later.
Love this tune and a very strong album also, worth checking out. Only RP would be playing this today.

Yeah a bit. Reminds me of John Hiatt right now...Did he cover this or did they cover him?
First hearing for me. Love it.  Yes, some Cracker, Black Francis, and Waterboys to my ear. Nice. Thanks!
Ok. An Emotional Fish.
A huge hit in.... Ireland... in the 90's.

I'm really impressed.
Oh! I'm back in Dublin, late 80's - excellent, thank you :)
Still definitely worth checking out - festivals and elsewhere in Ireland. http://www.jerry-fish.com/
great tune... There should be an 'Anthem' rating. It would override all comments and other ratings. ;-)
There's an Italian cover by Vasco Rossi ("Gli spari sopra"), too, with a heavier sound.
I love Vasco Rossi's Italian cover of it
Saw them opening for U2 in 1993 in Naples. Great concert.

Given this album came out the year Cracker formed I think you're just hearing An Emotional Fish
Sixty-nine is fine but I'll give this a solid 8.
I hear Cracker, too.
Aún recuerdo cuando me compré el vinilo en 1990.  Una joya.
A John Kongos vibe there..
Yet another I'd forgotten about. Thanks RP.

"Gli spari sopra" is an italian song cover of this one :)
Does anyone else hear Billy Idol?
A solid 9.  Heard this years ago and made sure to get a copy.

Yeah +1, nice one Bill! I saw them gig in the Wavecrest in Bray (hometown) sometime in the late 80s very early 90s. I remember an argument broke between band members at some point during the gig... they brought a lot of passion to performances!!! Takes me back
holy cow i haven't heard this song in forever. terrific find!
Bill, great music, thanks!!!!
7 > 8.  Man, that's pretty good socially conscious whup ass rock and roll.
I'd like to hear more from Emotional Fish.  Pretty damn good rock and roll and lyrics. fwiw, considering a bump.

Yeah, that's why we're all here, tuned in and enjoying the ride!

Vasco Rossi covered this song in 1993, and correctly credited song and authors on the album book
This is so good. I bought the LP just for this song. Managed to forget for years anyway. Thanks for this update RP.
Sometime I come across a some and think, where the hell have I been this is AWESOME!
Now it's clear where the pluricelebrated Italian rocker Vasco Rossi found his inspiration:

Reminds me of Cracker - Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now).
great band - never heard of them before - thank you for sharing!
I actually had this on CD back in the day.  Never heard it on the radio ever, but a buddy of mine from college brought it back with him from France.  I heard it once and was hooked... very pleasant memories Bill, thanks!
Did that bassline come from Walk Like an Egyptian?
Excellent tune from a really great album overall. Clear "8"  Unfortunately, their follow up album fell way short.
Another first for me here on R.P.  Never heard the song anywhere, never heard of the band.  I need to iPod this one.
I am not even sure why exactly but the song resonantes strongly with me - Very intriguing lyrics
Wow, last comment for this song was in 2010 ... has it been that long since it played here?  Voice reminds me a bit of Chris Isaack.
Damn Bill, everytime the boss walks by me today I'm reading this board!
Thanks a lot. {#Cool}

BTW, I kind of like this.

Where's Alun Piggins when you need him?
Annoying voice.

It's just damn catchy.
I think that propulsive drum beat helps.
I like it!
Pretty good for a Steve Wynn & the Dream Syndicate sound-a-like band.  Figures, recorded in 1990 just after the Dream Syndicate broke up.  Speaking of the Steve Wynn (and the Dream Syndicate), why don't we get either on RP?
A quick wikipedia check told me that indeed "celebrate" is the original and  "gli spari sopra" the cover...
funny, as soon as I heard it on the radio the vasco version came to my mind :)

with an excellent name. Nice driving stuff, an initial 6 from the Nottingham jury, likely to rise with further listens. Go fish! :o)

agreed! nice to see something from LRC finally get on the main channel.
Hmmmm.... geez, this band sounds a lot like An Emotional Fish. Such derivations. Tsk tsk.
Reminds me of U2's "The Fly" in the delivery and rhythm of the lyrics.
An excellent song from an excellent band!

Jesus Almighty. Vasco Rossi's fans would state that the Rolling Stones have been his imitators.

My fav band name--a short-lived local Seattle band: Sammy Davis's Eyeball
who's this singer?
Beauty is what beauty does it's bootiful Such insightful lyrics! If only I could be a pro like this.

This gets a 7.4 but tuti fruti gets a 6.7.

Morphine comes to mind here

Teen Angst (What The World Needs Now) by Cracker
Ahh! Love this song! The whole album is great. I'm gonna have to dig it out and relisten, it used to be one of my top ten players.

Great Tune, but the rest of the CD bites.

Best thing about RP...hearing great music I've never heard before!
Love it! What a great surprise
I'm hooked (pun intended).
8.
Yet another moment where I think Bill has my music collection out there in California. I saw this band in Montreal in +/- 1990... I loved their album back then. I just recently re-listened to it and I like it less, but this song is still great. Don't forget to give me my music back when you're done!
Wow! An Emotional Fish!!!! Love these guys. Celebrate!
one of my favourites ever!!!!
... Celebrate Celebrate I'm Going Home! ... ... But I'll be back soon ...
