4 for the maddeningly repetitive music. +2 for the great lyrics. Final score = 6. Billy Ray Cyrus in hell. What a concept.
Apparently it's genetic. His daughter is now responsible for bringing Hanna Montana to the masses. This particular tune sits squarely in the novelty song category, which means it is easily worn out. Please, let's not let that happen.

That spoken part is a spoof of the Moody Blues when they did that sort of thing back in their Nights in White Satin days— and perhaps spoofing Dylan a bit too. It's quite funny. This is good stuff, kind of like XTC in their psychedelic spoof incarnation, The Dukes of Stratosphere.
But it's cool that you can edit tunes to your liking now— glad you're happy with it, and that's a nifty new role for technology. I can think of a number of tunes that could use some tweaks, when the song went wrong, just cut and paste and it's so much better... that would really salvage some ABBA for me!
This is a schizophrenic song. The song starts out stupid with the scat (or whatever you call it) for the first 25 seconds, gets really good for the next 2 1/2 minutes, then gets stupid again for the next 1 1/2 minutes when the guy narrates his story about Billy Ray Cyrus and then it gets good again with the chorus section. So I went over to last FM and copied the audio from the song and edited out the stupid parts and voila! I've got a really great song to put on my iPod (with just a very slight bump in the middle of the song (I can live with that).

Bill - you are coming pretty close to one of my ideal playlists......! But I do need to get on with some work!

Thank you! I just noticed what was being said, but couldn't quite hear enough to follow. Made me laugh out loud.
Any song that makes fun of pompous British prog-rock is allright by me! (I'm talking about you Procol Harum, ELP, Moody Blues, King Crimson, Jethro Tull)
Anyone for a chorus of "Stonehenge"? (The Spinal Tap one)

Worst. Beatbox. Ever.
Hysterical! I've heard this a dozen times and never picked out the spoken monologue until now. An easy 8.

Apparently this was retribution for the misery he had inflicted on humanity with that horrible song and his contribution to the sinister spread of the boot scootin' phenomenon. In his thirty-second break he told me through his tears he had promised to slice off his mullet if only the Devil would spare his soul. But the Devil would not be swayed. He said, No, Billy, for the song, the line dancing, and the mullet....all these transgressions are far too great to allow you any mercy.'"
Man, you just gotta love that.

I gave it a two and I think that was generous. The Spinal Tap comment was right on the money. All I can picture is those guys singing this.
"Bell head" and "shell" - very Freudian, unless that's just my oversexed mind :o)
Is it just me, or does the guy on voiceover sound like Ewan McGregor?
the commenters are boring. the dream is interesting.

boring, that\'s all to it.
I enjoy a good conversation in the middle of a song.
It reminds me of people who talk in the movie theater during a movie... obviously something very important to say.
Some folks just need to get their heads out of their @r$e$ and spread the wings of their imaginations.
Brilliant song from a brilliant album by a brilliant band.
And for a bonus, you get to hear about Satan's retribution against Billy Ray Cyrus. Classic.

Totally lame. Dream, dream, that wonderful dream, blah blah blah, quivers?! are you serious, clark?
The kind of tune that would go over well at some kind
of Renaissance fair or Medieval jousting re-enactment. Yawn.
I hear early Pink Floyd / King Crimson. Syd Barrett influence for sure.
Lemon Jellyish
is that guy talking from the movie "Big Fish"?
Took a while for me to figure it out. But this song was kind of anoying me. I was like siting at my desk reaeding through paperwork and I keep hearing these annoying noises and they were like kind of making me feel uncomfortable and irritable. I was thinking "where are they coming from"? Oh yeah! It's this song.
Sounds good...!

I always just figured "god bless" so-and-so is merely a request (if not a demand) that God bless so-and-so, not that he/she/it necessarily will. But W *did* win two elections, so perhaps He Who Blesses did indeed choose to bless the Bush.

What do you know about the current state of American public schools there in Australia, Paul?
The guitar verse sounds a bit like Obvious by Jane's Addiction.

What this song has to do with politics is lost on me, but as long as we're having playground politcal discussions I'll chime in.
God bless W.
Thanks!

I think this is one of those bands that you hear, and suddenly one day, for whatever reason, you listen. At least that's what happened to me. I think I like them.

wow, that's some rather gorgeous instrumentation
I listening to this, wondering why I'd rated it 7...then they got to the part about Achy Breaky Heart and all was clear.
Good stuff.
I downloaded this album from Emusic using some of my 100 free songs (do a Google search for "free mp3s emusic" and you'll find the same offer), and it did not disappoint.
I'd describe them as Porcupine Tree + (Jethro Tull - Ian Anderson's flute). If you like prog rock, you'd probably dig it.

This makes me smile. And I don't get all the people who've given it a 1. It's rather harmless and good natured--what's to hate?.
I like the music in this one, but the ramble about Achey Breaky Heart is just... dated and trite.
The mouth percussion in the intro reminds me of some cheesy college a Capella group...but that goes away pretty quickly once the song starts.
I love hearing this song!

Meh. Okay a few times, but overplayed now, methinks. I gave it a '3' - Ho Hum.
Kind of reminds me of Pressed Rat and Warthog, by Cream, but a whole lot more musical.

All in favor of never playing this song again, say Mullett.
Funny, for the first 30 secs or so I thought this was some old Jethro Tull. Perhaps my Friday sleep deficit is playing tricks with my mind... :(
Without the pretentious voiceover halfway through this would be a 4, but that drops it to a 2.
I must say that any song that conjures The Scarecrow, Arnold Layne, and The Bike, and tosses in theatrical narrative like The Moody Blues used to do, and ties it all up with a new series of existential twists -- meanwhile inducing catchy sway and footwag -- gets my vote for Damn Interesting Number! and gets the volume cranked, to boot!
Wow! People surely can generate a lot of hate for a harmless little song. And so early in the morning! It's impressive, in a negative kind of way.
oooh, this is interesting too! What a great musical morning.
Wow, I don't get the intensity of the negativity. First time I've heard this and while it probably wouldn't make my top 10, I did kind of like it. Sort of reminded me of the groups mentioned, plus a little Cream. The differences in the tastes of RP listeners just fascinates the hell out of me!
I really like this song. I wished it was mixed a little better. What do these audio engineers have against bumping up the vocal tracks?

Pity about the chikka-chikka bit. Otherwise it has a Small Faces feel about it...

Yup. I think this may be the only '1' I've ever given on RP.
No denying the Moody Blues influence. Floyd as well....ah yes, the trippy days......very likeable....
The opening with the Bobby McFerrin-style voicing of the rhythm is really painful. From there it gets tolerable, though it strikes me as a joke song Spinal Tap would have done in their Flower People phase. In essence, this is a joke on the people who like it.

Don't blame your dorkiness on the tune. Blame it on your taste buds.
Any redeeming qualities this song may have are negated by that wretched opening.

Fancy this following Cream when I've always said here that it reminded me of "Pressed Rat and Warthog".

Love the Moody Blues/prog rock spoof. And it sounds good even if you don't listen to the lyrics.
