I just bumped my rating up to an 8 to boost the average.  I like it.
Very cool.
"Hey, Johnny"

Believe this song was used in the movie Inside Man. Heist movie with some neat twists. Recommended!
Yes to more chill Indian\Asian music on RP!
Tonight's the night. Up to 10 you go :)
Reena's voice is so perfect
There is a nice translation of the lyrics in this blogpost: https://lightupthemusic.blogsp...

Ek rang me jeena, jeevan ko
To live your life in one color
Aye jaan-e-tamanna, theek nahi
Oh my beloved, is not right

Gham aur khushi do raste hai
Pain and joy are two roads
Ek raah pe chalna theek nahi
To walk only one path is not right

Badal jaaye mausam
The weather changes
Khushi aaye, jaaye gham
And joy comes while pain leaves

I always thought the same. I just love her voice.

Outstanding.
Thanks Bill for playing Nitin Sawhney🙏
So many great elements combining in this - lovely.

Smash them with tennis rackets.

I always like indian sounding music, until someone starts some konnakol...
this tracks is excellent

Sure, there are plenty of non-human cultures! For example: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Penicillium roqueforti, Aspergillus oryzae...

huh, now I'm hungry.
This song always cheers me up.  It's lovely.

This is simply a ten hands down. Can-t stop swaying smoohtly in my office chair.

Thanks RP!
love this tune
But thanks, pal, now I can’t help but hearing
“Hey Johnny pull my nose”
It’s all good though
One of the best

I really like the machine-gun male backing vocals.
First time hearing this. Quite nice. Reminded me of the Shankar, Family & Friends album.
Somehow reminds me of the movie "Life of Pi"...

I Agree! I never heard of him before. Thanx RP!
"It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." This has that. I guess now they call it a "groove".  :-)

It's not just any "other lands" ... you don't see the same level of negativity with European-, or more generally, western-based genres or lyrics ... but the trolls really come out for stuff from Asian or African traditions.
For anyone looking for album info, since it doesn't exist on Wikipedia:

Thanks for the heads up! I was wondering who she was...beautiful voice... heavenly
good vibe to it!
I dig it.
If I give it a 9, will it show up more often in My Favorites playlist?
This isn't Buffalo Chip? or whatever that group is....

Thank you for identifying that angel's voice.
Love it. It reminds me of “burning bridges” by Mike curb.
Greetings from Oslo, Norway
sublime, like watching the sun rise from an aeroplane window
Hey, Johnny.
No idea what she's saying, but I don't care. This is pure bouncy bliss.
I'm glad that RP adds this music to the main mix. I like diversity. I like the Indian music and rhythm, but not the traditional high-pitched singing (it used to really grate). Over the years, I have come to appreciate it more, and I attribute that to repeated exposure on radio stations like this.
The more I hear this, the better it gets. 8>9. A few more listens it may warrant a 10. đŸ˜±
The male 'backround' singer is the only thing I like about this song.
'Hey Johnny , take my hand'...
This is really hitting the spot this morning.

What?
What I do not understand is why people come to listen to World Music and then complain about the different languages? Seems like some people just need to bitch!
This song is pleasant it's just not that great.

Also, repetitive.  Look at the lyrics, you don't even need to know the language.

But there's a lot of "repeat the chorus a lot" songwriting going around much to my dismay.

If that's the case why don't you some of what you consider good music from your culture to the tastemakers? It's easy to do...

Does anyone know what this song means?
There are sooooooo many of Nitin’s songs you could be playing, RP. Come on..!

I approve of this comment.  Kudos!
Love the rapid-fire background vocals, something that seems to be unique to Indian music.

LOVE Nitin <3

One of my favorite RP discovery songs. Always puts me in a good mood hearing this joyful music.

Yes, even if we could get music from Jupiter it would probably only be on 8-track.  Cool tune; to me it doesn't matter what the lyrics are about with a groove like this.
Thank you for playing music I can't hear anywhere else! You've made life much more enjoyable!

exactly what are "other cultures" my friend?
Mondegreen alert!

"Hey Johnny... hey Johnny"

Like you might hear as you walk past the working girls of Saigon or Bangkok "Hey Johnny... you want good time?".

A quick look at the lyrics proves me wrong but I think my imagery is more fun.

More Nitin, please...

Yes, this music has Indian influences. Yes, Indian food is also a thing. What's your point, that you're otherwise ignorant of their culture?

Google Translate had limited success with the lyrics. I think the section below just repeats throughout the song...

Live in a junkyard
Eh janne tamana
Theek na hein

Live in a junkyard

Theek na hein

Live in a junkyard

I am happy to know
I do not want to pay anything

Thanks for that link and info. She and her voice are lovely.
Feels like I'm sitting in an Indian restaurant. And I like sitting in Indian restaurants.
I like it.
This is brutal!
My late grandmother (and yours too, probably) used to say, "I can't understand a thing they're saying!" Turns out that's not necessary for real enjoyment. As many times as I've heard this here it always seems fresh.

Sold my house, quit my job ... next stop India to buy a motorbike and lose myself for a year or two ... can't wait :) Laddakh definitely on the must-do list!

Love Reena's voice, gives me goosebumps.
Sure works for me, anyway.
Was sitting in a beach bar in Goa earlier this week (now there's a conversation killer) and this piece came on and it took me a while to place it - at least until "hey Johnnie" then the RP synapse kicked in and it all felt right. 90 degrees, cold beer, a charming companion, a sideways full moon. Hell yeah.
Oh, hi, Johnny.
not my cup of tea, but there's no reason to be a turd about it

Oh dear. . . maybe your ears need adjusting? They seem to be mostly tuned to rock. A quick trip to the rest of the world will help.

Peace
That´s why I am listening to Radio Paradise: always something new (at least for me). Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but mostly interesting !

Gonna take a freight train,
Down at the station,
Lord, I don't care where it goes.

Can't say I've ever found that to be the case.  Some you win, some you lose.  That's just the way it is, but overall I have found RP to be the best station I have listened to.  Ever.
RP sometimes really piss me off
Very nice melding of Western and Hindi influences.  I could listen all day.

I have a few Nitin Sawhney albums and they are all great. Very different and somehow calming at the end of a long day. LOVE this! Thanks for playing!
