Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame
Make myself a pact not to shut doors on the past
Just for today I am free

I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today
I know this one thing well

I used to try to kill love, was the highest sin
Breathing insecurity out and in
Searching hope, I'm shown the way to run straight
Pursuing the greater way for all human light

How I choose to feel is how I am
How I choose to feel is how I am
I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today

Holding on, the light of night
On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul
Again

Let me run into the rain
To be a human light again
Let me run into the rain
To shine a human light today

Life comes from within your heart and desire
Oh, life comes from within my heart and desire
Oh, life comes from within your heart and desire

Yeah, yeah
Run in rain

Smoking hot band.  Half the time Vedder is unintelligible.  No matter.  Hot band with drive and passion.  State of Love and Trust is one of the all time sonic blasts.

Sums this wonderful band up beautifully.
Smoking hot when cranked to VERY LOUD on the sound system of a Cadillac Escalade on  a dark road at 1 a.m.
I like the slow build up at the beginning, but the middle wanders away from that feeling, then the ending is good. So I'll give it a solid 7.
Same here- l was so happy to hear "Low light" in the begining :)

The term "techno" was first applied to a style of electronic dance music from Detroit in the late 1980s, but that post to which your were responding was probably referring to the synth-pop bands of the 1980s and earlier.
this PJ piece affects me as both a warm embrace and solid rocking shake up, good and strong

Beautiful song about personal discovery.

I feel the oposite towards Pearl Jam. (The same goes for most of Pink Floyd so it must be me ;) )
Strangely enough Eddie Vedders work for the movie Into the Wild was very good for my ears but thats a rare exception.

Just to remind dear posters, this is not a "guy"  this is a band, in the best rock and roll sense of the word

This song was composed - words and music - by the lead guitarist Mike McCready, a rare McCready only composition.

But most of the great and near great PJ songs are collaborative efforts with guitarist Gossard, bassist Ament, drummer Cameron and McCready contributing a lot of music and occasional lyrics and the "guy" - Mr. Vedder, - contributing the lion's share of the lyrics and a good amount of music as well.

Yes. This attains greatness in a way few others have done since 2000. Perhaps The Flaming Lips. I can't hardly think of any others writing/recording at that level. Amy Winehouse. Greenday. The Whitestripes. The Shins. The Killers. The Postal Service. U2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Okay, there's half a dozen. Source.

I wonder how they cut that avacado so perfectly. When I cut one, it's always uneven. The seed is dented and the skin is torn. I'll have to ask the Eddie how he did this so cleanly. I mean gezzz, the avacado isn't even discolored yet, mine always turn green so fast.

I'm impressed

Look how yellow it is... not very ripe.  That's why the seed is so shiny and clean.  The riper ones have hairier seeds.  'Course, it might be plastic or 3D rendered.  But get back after you talk to Eddie...

I know a lot, maybe even most people would agree with your statement with regards to negative comments (not me though). Positive comments amount to the same thing as clapping at a rock concert.  There is nothing wrong with that, and no obligation to be interesting.  As far as negative ones go, I think your ideal comment board would be quite boring, and pretty much empty of content.  Very few comments are truly interesting, and the rants and spats are what are fun to read.  Too many people get their feelings hurt, and egos bruised, because someone else doesn't like their band or song.  That's their problem, not the commenters'.

Dunno what it is about this song that catches me but I LOVE IT!, and have from the very first play. As it starts, it makes me feel quiet, hopeful, and I sit back and try to in all the good things I experienced during the day. As it goes on, I feel uplifted, joyous and by the end I want to jump up and yell the lyrics! Many people I know have stopped listening to PJ over the years, and I do admit that they have changed quite a bit. However I don't think that's a bad thing. Songs like this is why I keep listening to them.

Trying to close the books for a Friday after a week of client issues and really enjoying some of what's Bill's spinning today. Some new, some old, some heard before like Pearl Jam. I have this album and listening was suddenly struck that I love Pearl Jam but hate the albums. It seems that I personally can't listen to the whole thing because only one or two tunes are really good; almost like they save the creativity up, blow it out for about two tunes per album and then go out in the back yard and gather up some filler to fill it out. That's too bad 'cause when PJ gets creative they can really catch your attention.
Even though I don't agree with your conclusion, I respect that you and others may feel that way. In that case, you should try out "Lost Dogs", PJ's "rarities" collection. From the AMG review "Since their proper albums are so somber and tightly controlled, it seemed as if the band didn't have a sense of humor, or even gave themselves a chance to breathe. These songs not only prove that assertion false; they capture what the band sounded like at its peak — they capture their passion, their open-heartedness, their stance as true believers. This spirit was damped on the albums since they deliberately shied away from it and obscured it with ventures into experimentalism, but here, they not only sound committed but also eclectic and alive. This is where the nonchronological sequencing is a plus — everything here sounds like it could date from their heyday of the first of the '90s, even though much of it dates from later. This is further proof that Pearl Jam consciously turned away from the big, anthemic sound and spirit that won them a mass audience with Ten — they still had the songs and sound, they just chose to bury it. Lost Dogs crackles with that passion and it has another advantage: unlike most of Pearl Jam's album, it's a fun, compulsive listen."
