I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island
I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island

Oh I remember I once dressed as a king
Decked in fine robes and everything
The blood that's in my veins is pure royalty
I ruled many kingdoms and ruled many dynasties
Then all of a sudden I was in a state of shock
Caught and thrown on the auction block
Just like Jesus I was flogged and mocked
Now human cargo yes they said I wasn't coming back

I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island
I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island

I was that prisoner who was fighting to be free
Free from my enemies who came and capture me
That was the years of brutality
Cannot be wiped away so easily
Although they have removed the chains
They try so hard to wash my brain
Want I to bow my head in shame
But when I think of the Motherland
I hear the spirits call my name

I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island
I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island

Lets light the torch let Babylon burn yah!

I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island
I've returned through the door of no return
On Goree Island

I'n I' survive yeah heh!
Gory Goree, gory Goree gory Goree
Brand new story
Gory Goree, gory Goree
Got the power and the glory
On Goree Island

First of all, this song is not special enough to generate a thread based on its lyrical and musical content. The word "Holocaust" will always be evocative. It is also an industry. Look at all the Holocaust movies. Spielberg has made millions...
So in summation, the word "Holocaust" is far more evocative to the listeners of RadioPardise than the content of this song?

IIRC, "anti-Semitism" is a term that came into use during the 19th century when Jews were the only people of Semitic origin in Western European societies. So yes, it's a misnomer.

Judaism is a religion, while Jewry denotes ethnicity.
Here is a more clear way of looking at it: If a Chinese person, who for example is Budhist, changes their religion to Judaism, then they would be Jewish only in terms of religion. However, this person would never be "a Jew". Likewise, if an ethnic Jew believed in Budhism, then they would be a Budhist by religion but still a Jew. So yes, you are correct that "Jewry" is an ethnicity, and it is very confusing as to why some Jews will not accept this.

That's pretty much impossible to do in the US, which ironically is the only place where such criticism would matter and make a difference.

Jews are not a race; At least in theory, that was the main argument against UN resolution 3379 that "determine that Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination". In practice, however, it's clear that resolution 4686 - which revoked the former - was due to the crushing success of "desert storm". Look at how many Arab countries didn't bother showing up for the vote out of fear. So if Jews are not a race, I can't be a racist, right? All Arabs are of Semitic heritage. Being an Arab myself, I can't possibly be anti-Semite. Now, in retrospect, I understand that I got carried away in my previous post (which doesn't belong here in the first place). Sorry about that everyone. jah_blessed wrote:
Surely one can be critical of Israel's actions without being branded an anti-semite?

Its better than some of the other things we could call you, Shirl. Kevstar wrote:

I'm Jewish and I criticize Israel all the time. Am I an anti-anti-semite?
this is amazing, this song comes on right as i'm working on a map of senegal at work, and there is a picture of the 'door of no return' on our map...

I've had it with these motherf*cking double standards on this motherf*cking planet! What the hell is wrong with you people? People are jailed for questionning the magnitude of the holocaust (click here), yet freedom of speech is invoked when inflammatory cartoons of the prophet Mohammed are published (click here). Next thing you know, we'll be told that taking the lives of a thousand innocent civilians (and the infrastructure of a whole country) is proportional to that of two jewish people. Oh, wait ... nevermind ...

Interesting, but African Holocasut? Technically, a Holocasut can only happen to Jewish people.

Please don't tell Bill what he can and can't play. If you want the perfect station go start radioduggerd. Otherwise learn to mute like the rest of us.

Um, not really: (click here) But anyway, I'm finding that I actually like Steel Pulse. I suppose it proves that there's something really good in every genre, even the ones I'm not generally fond of (or mostly disdain). This starts at a 7 for me.
You didn't get what I was saying...
