Bei mir bist du schön
Please let me explain
Bei mir bist du schön means that you're grand
Bei mir bist du schön
Again I'll explain
It means you're the fairest in the land

I could say "bella, bella"
Even say "wunderbar"
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are
Bei mir bist du schön
There I said it again
So kiss me and say you understand

Bei mir bist du schön
Please let me explain
Bei mir bist du schön means that you're grand
Bei mir bist du schön
Again I'll explain
It means you're the fairest in the land

I could say "bella, bella"
Even say "wunderbar"
Each language only helps me tell you how grand you are

So kiss me and say you understand

Who wouldn't ayy
I heard this as a child and until this day I thought it was: My Dear Mister Shane.
Would love to hear Ella's version too. I've danced to it, and let me tell you it gets your heart rate up towards the end! One of my all-time faves.

They seem to fly right through and are gone again in a flash.

A7 just for the German title

The original is in Yiddish though, isn't it?  I think they are rather trying to approximate that sort of pronunciation.

Yiddish it is.  My mother sang this to me when I was a youngin lo some 60+ years ago.  Things were different then, at least to me.
Like this version by The Hot Sardines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4-XIKt-ADs,  They sped it up quite a bit.
Google Translate thinks this is Russian!

Actually I thought it was plain German.

Weird....totally thought it was the Squirrel Nut Zippers....weird.
delicious swing jazz with a Lady Day impersonator on the mic? yeah, it's a sweet formula, then or now.
Love this tune - I have about 6 versions of it.
