Baby please
Baby please don't go
I got lies to feed
They want skin and seed
And don't make me crawl

Please
Baby don't bite your lip
Give you half what I got
If you untie the knot
It's a promise

Salome...salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome

Baby please
Baby what's that tune
Well I heard it before
When I crawled from your door
And my blood turned blue

Please
Baby please slow down
Baby I feel sick

Don't make me stick to my promise

Salome...salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome

Baby please
Baby don't say no
Won't you dance for me
Under the cherry tree
Won't you swing down low

Please
Baby please say yes
Baby don't go away
You're spilling me
And your precious love

Salome...salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome
Salome...shake it shake it shake it salome

I thought it was "so lonely."
Got this as a song on a CD single. I forget which single off Achtung Baby it was, but I bought it for The Lady With The Spinning Head (which is still a great track). Strangely, Salome turned out to be the best tack of all. Good discovery, Bill!

Very well stated!   I  Agree completely!

GREAT TUNE!!  I never heard it before! That is why we come here. I also had to listen several times! I gave it an EIGHT!  Thanx RP!

Didn’t love this at the time. Like it better now, though it sounds like my alarm is going off in the background.

I was hearing Bono singing about the Italian hard sausage
= not the title of the song at all
Didn't recognize this as U2. Quite good first listen!
I never heard it before. ...I like it!
The most honest you can live is when you split the people fifty/fifty on love and hate. Then, the haters need to realize they're living a lie.

This bass line actually evolved into "Zoo Station."
You can really hear it during the breakdown in the middle. It's a cute song but mostly interesting (at least to me) to hear how it eventually evolved into something very different but built upon the same foundation.

Always hoped this song was about Salome Bey . Apparently not , but Ms. Bey could shake it , back in the day .

But was the dancing girl you or someone else?
The devil is in the details.

Man....a lot of those classical Biblical characters are freaking hard ass-pricks

Sound like Atom Ant...but I like.
sounds like saint bono has been out shaking his salami again
Hard to believe this song came out almost 20 years ago. We need to upload some of the achtung baby outtakes....

I don't like most U2... but this is pretty good. Who'da thunk it? A rockabilly tune by U2 about a minor biblical character.... :-)
I can't see the title of this song without thinking of 'Norma Desmond' in 'Sunset Boulevard' with Bill Holden. Wonderful. For that alone it gets a 6. c.
Definitely B side material, but fun anywaaay a hey hey hayyyyyy.
Salami...shake the salami?
Fun!

From Wikipedia: "Salome was the step-daughter of Herod Antipas, and danced before Herod and her mother Herodias at the occasion of Herod's birthday, and by doing so caused the death of John the Baptist." In historical context I think the song becomes humorous and dark. Definitely a "B" side throwaway. Love U2.
gormeister wrote:

Evidently not. OK, I'll look it up... "In Christian mythology, Salome was the daughter of Herodias and stepdaughter of Herod Antipas, ruler of Galilee in Palestine." More at: https://www.victorianweb.org/gender/salome.html

They made this song about 16 years ago.
Like the B-sides

but if you hear "salami", it gives the whole song quite a different tone. Sorry, it just does I like this song (forcing myself to hear Salome). Cool tune.

Er, from the Hebrew = Peace: shalom.
This sounds quite un-U2-like. Except for Bono's vocals, of course.
Salomé? Are they ready for their closeup?
reminds me of The Boss beltin' out Pink Cadillac.
They finally sat down and learned that second song.
no like....different but still no like.........
not as good as older songs.

What these boards really need is a killfile feature (ala usenet) so that posts claiming a 1 rating is relatively positive can be filtered out.
One of my favorite U2 songs. I appreciate the U2ness and the unU2ness of it.

Not really a "new" sound. This track is almost 10 years old. Still a favorite....
One of the many cool things about U2 is the creative use of American influences. They build on them and make them into new and often better things. This is a fine example.
Shake-a-shake-a-shake-a-salami.
A lot like Little Richard's Lucille and also some Glamrock and Adam Ants in it! Very nice, "swampy", though modern groove, too. I mostly appreciate it a lot, the way this band keeps developing, while remaining artistically credible.

I've wondered what this tune was for a long time.. nice.
