This is a goddamned 10 and that's all I have to say
Rating to me is  7 - Quite Likeable   but not more
The Ska-Ta-Lites Version is much better!!!{#Yes}
Why on earth would we want to hear this when we could hear this: Billy Eckstine with perhaps the worlds best Jazz band behind him

not quite that bad but it does seem to have a generic boredom vibe running thru it
Lovely rendition.
Obligatory "not quite my tempo" joke.  I really like this version though.
Shite! I've syncopated me meniscus!

There is nothing as worse as 'Mutantenstadel".

German - Englisch

Mutanten - mutants
Stadel (Scheune) - barn (grange)

'Mutantenstadel' is the ironic name of a german television show, playing the most painful music not only known on planet earth, which can only be played and watched by those who have the 'worst music survial gene' marker be positiv.

  You should probably get that checked out.

Very familiar to Denver jazz fans!
Nice to hear it in its entirety.

Nice, Bill!  Why do you always play this good stuff just when I need to go to bed?
For what it's worth, Dapogny is professor emeritus at the University of Michigan.
Needs to be followed with Cold Duck by Gershon Kingsley... {#Bananapiano}

A few good retro features - tzzzz!!!!

This is a fun rendition. Perhaps my favorite version is by Chet Atkins and Les Paul on their album Chester and Lester, which is gratefully out on CD. My original LP is plumb worn out.

No.  The accompanying music for the plate-spinner on the Ed Sullivan Show was "The Sabre Dance", but apparently some people think that all music made before 1966 or so sounds the same.
This makes me think, obliquely, of Terry Gilliam's film Brazil, which has a good few 'retro' features, including some of the music.
Swingin'

I'm happy to hear some early jazz on RP, even by a latter-day band. Folks who like this should also check out the Nighthawks (who can occasionally be seen on the HBO series "Boardwalk Empire") or catch Steven DeRosa's stage show.
what a great start to my morning - thanks!

Yes, and a line of penguins doing a slow razmatazz...
These guys could have easily been one of the major swing bands of the era.  That good.
This is just plain FUN - jitterbugging around the house... {#Propeller}{#Bananasplit}
I love Caravan and have many versions of it at home, but this is a new one for me, and I dig it. Great bari sax solo.

Oh!  Yes...
I love this song in any form, this version is fun!

Sorry, songs like these is exactly why I listen to RP.

(p.s. Capone was in jail when this was originally recorded, but I understand the reference to the Jazz Age.)

For some reason I get the image of Johnny and Hadji running from some bad guy.  I have no idea where that came from but it's there every time I hear this song.

Suddenly, I'm thinking of the Ed Sullivan Show and Spinning Plates... Or was it trained poodles?

Probably should have been, but royalties would have been a bit difficult to obtain without a time machine (©1997?).

I just got back from band practice. We played this song for, like, an hour. This is the first I've heard it on RP!
Don't listen to a lot of jazz, but I really enjoyed this.

This is so well done! Often that song can turn campy but they handled it well. Thanks for playing it.

I don't usually comment negatively on any music heard here, but there are WAY BETTER versions of this out there (1000's). Nat Cole for one, any Ellington treatment for 6 more, etc.

Really nice trombone work.
This is so cool!
I see poodles jumping thru hoops on Ed Sullivan...
nice
Mmmm. Sweet stuff.
Wow, this is nice. 'Caravan' really swings no matter who does it. The solos here are really sweet too. c.

right time, right place, right bleats.. .. just what I needed.
I really dig Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen...in the same family
Sounds so sexy if you have an early 20th century mind. This was the rock and roll of our great-grand parents. I am sure that many in its time thought of it as a subversive. It is nice to see such a class act from Chicago. Another good one is the Johnny Crawford Band in Los Angeles. https://crawfordmusic.com/music_images.asp

True dat. Caravan is such a fascinating song and every cover of it is completely different from the one before it. I've heard so many different versions of it that are so different it's becoming hard to recognize the song.
Swingin' and smooth!
