There'll be times when my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life liveable

But when you think I've had enough from your sea of love
I'll take more than another riverfull
Yes, and I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give to you
Again and again
And will you return it

There'll be days when I'll stray
I may appear to be constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practice what I preach

I'm not trying to say I'll have it all my way
I'm always willing to learn when you've got something to teach
Oh, and I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

Pain, will you return it
I'll say it again, pain
Pain, will you return it
I'll say it again, pain
Pain, will you return it
I'll say it again, pain
Pain, will you return it
I won't say it again

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me

I give in
Again and again
I give in
Will you give it to me
I give in
I'll say it again
I give in

I give in
Again and again
I give in
That's how my love goes
I give in
I'll say it again
I give in

I give in

U2
The Cure
The Smiths
Psychedelic Furs
Stone Roses
etc. Ad nauseum. The 80s were so much more than Madonna and Wham!
The first car I ever had with a CD player was christened with Violator.
I heard so many new sounds in their songs that were never present on radio or cassette.  Mind blowing to say the least.
I'm so looking forward to see them live this spring!

I always found it depressing to be around Michael Jackson fans!!  LOL!

Not bad for depressed mode this

Two Zappa references. Always in order.
Some sounds in the beginning of this made me long to hear the voice of the "Central Scrutinizer" here, on RP.
Brings me right back to the Limelight in NYC in the Big 80s...
still my favorite dance song from sophomore year in high school.
I just deleted that previous comment, Ms. R. Sorry! Gender faux pas  happen. Even in 2019. Ok, back to where we started... great pick for exactly right now! Made my Song Du Jour.

still great but somehow it sounds shallow. low frequencies are so empty.... sounds poorly.
That was a heckuva transition from PF's Learning to Fly, Bill!

enjoy the silence ;)
Music for the Masses .. their best CD ever. I feel they went downhill after this. Too commercialized.
The best part is when the song is over ;)
I love their darkness.
Actually the best parts are when they stop singing.
I give in to sin....

HELL! YEAH!

Original version with the long pad introduction! Looooove it!

Hahaha. That's funny. I kind of enjoy Duran Mode these days because I ignored bands with this sound at the time. There was so much other better stuff to listen to. This was like elevator music. Still is!

I just love how cheeky Depeche Mode lyrics are!

They were so much better with Vince Clarke

I Like DM, especially Violator....but this is cheese.
Heard it in the 80s till my ears bled.
Maybe too often. Still like some of the remixes from DM.

Btw: The best DM-song is "Behind the wheel/Route 66". {#Exclaim}
{#Hearteyes}
I thought it was the James Bond song..wrong song.
Plain...want nothing on it...I'll say it again...PLAIN.

When this album came out after Black Celebration, it took me some time to get used to the "new" sound (all the sampling in use etc.). However, meanwhile it is one of my favourites.

In the clubs it was fun, if nothing else.  They had some good tunes but not quite enough to make me go out and buy their recordings.
the same drum computer that Cameo used. oh and probably every band in the eighties. Dont date too well does it?
...i can't hear this track anymore without expecting the flaming lips afterward...

wow. when this first came on i had to check the playlist to see if this was Bobby Brown... then the lyrics started and i'll be changing the station for a few minutes now.

I picture Axel Foley scaling the wall while furtively looking to see if he's been spotted...
Nobody under age 25 (30?) will generally like this band, I have found. Sigh...
YES, this is sweet...this album was playing almost constantly as I went round Oz my first time back in '90...and still sounds as grand and impressively eerie — in a very good way...  Hey, and DIG the Dr. Strangelove pic below!  That movie bears watching every few years (until it finally goes down)...

Woo-hoo! Yee-haw! Or how I stopped worrying about nuclear annihilation instead of living in a world repopulated by politicians.
Yeah, baby! Just when I was thinking of some songs I'd rather hear on RP than some in current rotation, this comes along and bends me nice and strange...and being above standard orbit while doing prep for almond chicken prep, well, man, it just takes it all to the next level entirely...YOW! The club was Loveafair in Vancouver BC, I was dancing out on the floor by myself and this came on and the crowd filled the dance floor. I remember this beautiful woman (like super model kind of beautiful) came up to me and we started dancing very provocatively, it was almost like a primal moment that you would read about when people go into a trance. I remember that she had the greatest smile on her face, she was so happy and it was obvious she was having a great time (if it was drug induced I have no idea) When the song ended her boyfriend came, the guy looked like the statue of David except with a tan, His glare at me was something to behold, there was no way in hell that a woman like her would have ever talked to a guy like me in the real world. They marched off with her eyes locked on mine until they disappeared into the crowd and I never saw her again, man here I am in my cube writing this smiling thinking that was my moment and I let it slip, its funny how music can trigger memory banks that have laid dormant for so long. You should have nailed her right there on the dance floor.

No kidding! When the songs we liked in high school turn 20 and become classics (20 years is enough to make a classic, right?), we know we're not getting any younger.

Written with the atmospherics of the Great Gatsby - rising from the shadows and mists - relish it!

As I am not a fan of DM, I consider this statement to be true, in an unintended way I'm sure. Looks like there are a whole lot more fans out there than not, so OH Well! I'll have to take a dud every now and then, but I get mostly absolute quality from RP. Long live RP!
