This group is actually amazing. They are deep and fun.

Hmmm. I quite like this. Subtley (sp?) sexy... just likable. Is there something wrong with me?

Songs like something you'd hear at a First Assembly of Boredom church service.
GONG !!

Other way around, actually.
Timbuk 3 is a band that deserved far more acclaim than they ever got... and this is not one of their best songs.
If you have it, would love to hear "Grand Old Party", or "Dirty, Dirty Rice".
If you can't sing or play then you can always hook people with a catch phrase. Sorry but this song has really nothing going for it and it seems to just go on and on forever.

Standard White Jesus
Baby boom go boom
Baby boom go bump
Baby boom goes straight to the edge
And someone hollers "jump"
You gotta be dead to be bigger than life
But everyone's afraid to fly
Everyone want to be on a postage stamp
But nobody wants to die
Better bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Then read the letters that the children write
To the standard white Santa Claus
They want flash - somethin' awesome
Somethin' with a little kick
Somethin' semi-automatic
Just might do the trick
They want weapons to arm themselves
Against every childhood fear
They want rockets to fly up to heaven
And get the hell out of here
See the devils and the angels
See how shamelessly they dance
Defyin' the laws of gravity
On the shoulders of romance
The sensations - the temptations
Our forefathers have succumbed to
And the bittersweet fragrance
Our noses have been numbed to
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Then read the letters that the children write
To the standard white Santa Claus
How grim our lives would be
If not for children's laughter
Like scary old fairy tales
With no happily-ever-after
Talkin' on telephones across time zones
Payin' the futility bill
Prayin' for rain, punchin' clocks
Changing the world like I change my socks
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Bow down to the standard white Jesus on the cross
Then read the letters that the children write
To the standard white Santa Claus
Opened for them once. They were pretty snobby, but nowhere near Jonathan Richmond. He was an ass.
This is a GREAT segue after Calexico's Deep Down. I'm not sure if Bill realizes how good, but I'll bet he does. Its all there in the lyrics.
Sucko a la barfo. Every one of their songs consists of one and a half notes.
This was a pleasant surprise.
Four comments here...
1. Thank you for not falling into the trap of playing their big hit, "The Future's So Bright." It's great to hear some back-of-the-catalog stuff. (and this goes for any group)
2. I wouldn't choose to play this on my home stereo, which is why we need outfits like RP to spin this stuff for us. No way would I ever know of this, which just kinda crept up on me outta nowhere.
3. "Payin' the futility bill" is a great line in a song full of them. Yeah maybe they have been listening to Tom Waits a lot, but this song works if you let it.
4. Ummm, I got no #4, 'cept to say I wish it had a higher community ranking. I make it an 8, which is not too shabby.

Not to be found, it seems.
Too bad; I liked the "paying the futility bill" line.

They have been absorbing Tom Waits' lyrics. Consider Tom's Chocolate Jesus.
They musta had a time machine, then. This came out way before Tom's song. Sorry.

I wished I'd gotten in on that.
Terry Allen - Big ol' White Boys
Timbuk 3 - Standard White Jesus
Calexico - Deep Down
The Vines - Vision Valley
The loser should send their $5 to RP.
