Oh boy
Makin' noise
For the love a' Buddy Holly
My six string
Way gone
Real low
Let it roll
Like a motor ever purrin'
My machine
Rave on
Sentimental blood
You spill
I'll reach out to catch it
Oh boy
Makin' out
Gotta' try to make the most
Of a queer thing
Ah, gotta' shout
Real loud
Rock n' roll
Cupid Charlie noddin' off
In the mezzanine
Gotta' shout
Sentimental tears
You spill
I'll reach out to catch them,
I may never see the light
I may never dream in color
I may may never see the light a' day
Feelin' dizzy
Feelin' weak
Feelin' dizzy
Like I'm gonna' sink
Oh boy
Makin'noise
For the love a' Buddy Holly
My six string
Way gone
Real low
Let it roll
Like a motor ever purrin'
My machine
Rave on
Sentimental blood
You spill
I'll reach out to catch it
Sentimental tears
You spill
I'll reach out to catch it
I may never see the light
I may never dream in color
I may may never see light a' day
I may never see the light
I may never win you over
I may never be in love
I may never see the light
I may never see light
I may may never see light a' day

He's doing a little tour with John Doe (X) and Kristin Hersh Between DC and Chicago 2/4 thru 2/14
Had to upgrade it from 7 to 8.

This is color on another cover art, where  I started to  Dream In Color.hmm..
My mother used to load us up with popcorns
Usually looked into  T.V on the evenings.
And, the grandaddy dreamed in color.
Was a huge Grant Lee Buffalo fan and often forget he had a few pretty cool tracks on the subsequent solo albums too.
I dream in color.  I also dream in chocolate from time to time.

Those songs were certainly influential, probably more than any others of the rock/pop genre, but producers like Phil Spector and Quincy Jones used string arrangements in rock/pop songs prior to George Martin and The Beatles doing so, though maybe not quartets.

OKAY BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU'RE YELLING!

The internet was tailor made for two things:

1) people born to post nothing but negative spam on any song, product, person, business, etc. and subject under the sun and Moon. Often these types are "fixated", i.e., so and so is the world's greatest guitarist, usually somebody rated in the top 100 guitar players on Rolling Stone. Or maybe they despise all 100, either way, they are buzz-kill because they get a reaction to their infantile ramblings.

2) people like the rest of us that love rp and most if not nearly all of what they collect and play. I woke up with headphones on about a month ago, hearing Amadou and Miriam for the first time.

Today it is wide awake, hearing

Grant-Lee Phillips

for my first time. I heard the Marc Bolan T-rex sound or influence, but I also heard modern alt rock. One of the great things about an eclectic station like rp, is sooner or later, you hear an old familiar, or brand new song. Often done in 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, or even an "unusual time" format.

Does Grant Lee Phillips, aka Buffalo, do any songs in "unusual time signatures"? I'd aplogize, for the long, rambling post, but it is my great pleasure to push the barfing emoticon(s) both below the fold and to the back pages...

Peace,

Raretrees

If anyone on rp sees this, how about some old Zephyr, Candy Givens and Tommy Bolin music? My personal favs are the stuff where Candy sang prominently "later" rather than "earlier" in her "album" career. She got really polished after getting past "her first studio" takes.
Channelling Marc Bolan of T. rex.

EXACTLY THE RIGHT THING FOR ME!

I could never than RP enough for introducing me to Grant Lee Phillips (and Grant Lee Buffalo). Still: thank you!   :)

Yes, Excelsior was annoying, but he's long gone. There's nothing to be gained in rising to year old bait. BTW, if you take even a casual glance at his rating pattern, he simply dialed up one artist after another and rated them. It wasn't as if he actually listened to the songs. Pretty funny when you think about it. At least the long, lost and—at least to one habitue of these pages—lamented Physicsgenius actually listened to the stuff before he savaged it.

I've had a couple of drinks tonight, so I'm a bit more, er, critical than usual. Apologies.

I wondered about others' comments regarding Excelsior.  Thanks for explaining! (And don't apologize for being "critical." I'm glad you can feel comfortable enough here to let it all out. Haven't seen any of Physicsgenius's comments yet, but hey - the year is young!

Enjoy your current evening, WonderLizard (since the comment I tagged was from September of 2009...) {#Sunny}

Love GLP. Puts on a great fun show, especially when it is just him and his guitar.
Four words

Mark T Rex Bolan
I want to make "For the love of Buddy Holly!" a regular expletive.
I've been listening to a couple of his CD's in the car recently. Uniformly very good stuff.
Same branch of the family tree as Michael Penn? This is by far my favorite Grant-Lee Phillips song Bill plays. 8

Chill, brothers and sisters. The XBoy took a powder some six months ago and hasn't been heard from since. Unlike PhysicsGenius, with whom I rarely agreed but admired for his wit and erudition, XBoy seemed only to revel in pure, vile negativity. It is for his like that God created the vomiting emoticon, and I for one do not mourn his passing.

First time I ever heard Grant-Lee Phillips was as the town troubadour on Gilmore Girls.  :)  Glad I get to hear him elsewhere also.

It is going to take some doing, but I think it's worth the effort!  Here is my part.....

Seconded. A shame that you can't have killfiles on web fora. Nowt wrong with negative comments, but his relentless slagging off really is wearing and wearying. As he rates some 25% of RP's output as sucko-barfo you do wonder why he hangs around here. Reminds me of some footie fans who swear loyalty to their team but only go along to matches to relentlessly slag off their own players. Must be a form of catharsis, I guess ;-|

I've always dreamed in colour.  I don't recall ever having a black and white dream.. i'm pretty sure that's how dogs dream.  (my effort to rid the page of vomitous comments).
Nice, but on the edge to becoming overplayed.

love grant's stuff. {#Music}
Playing this song after "Following Slowly" is why I listen to Radio Paradise all day long. Thank you Bill!!! {#Hearteyes}

Hey Grant:  You're allowed to go directly from one note to another.  You don't have to slide back and forth between each one.  It really, really sucks.

good to listen to when you just get into work
nice segue from NY "Goin' Back". 2 X 8 for me
Nice arrangements, vocals, and guitars. Easy to listen to, but it doesn't really grab me. Maybe it's not supposed to.

Is this typical of the whole CD? May have to invest...
This one is 8 for me and moving up. I'm not sure why that is.
Voice, backing and lyrics are reminiscent of John Lennon. Which, unfortunately, is not a good thing for me as I hate Lennon's music :(

I imagine a lot of country artists would be disturbed to hear that. I love GLP's neo-Bowie voice, myself. The song's not much, unfortunately.

I liken it to the jiggle of a giant vat of pudding or the slow, languid trickle of corn syrup...without the implied sweetness.
From a "meh" top a "hmmm".... Went from a 3 to a 6 for me today.
