I'm ashamed to say that this is my first listen, and I heard "If I Were A Rich Man" from "Fiddler on the Roof."  Not a bad comparison, though - and this is mournful, evocative, and rather achingly beautiful.

I don't like everything on this CD, but this song is very beautiful. As is Sophie, by the way. People who like this may want to check out Laughter Through Tears (2004) by Oi Va Voi. At that time, she was as violinist more or less the leader of that band, and KT Tunstall does some singing on that CD too. It's different, more dance-influenced, but it's good music, and there are lots of Balkan- and klezmer-like similarities. But skip Oi Va Voi's self-titled current CD, it's not good at all, probably because Sophie has left.
