This is my least favorite song on an otherwise above-average CD. Overall, it sounds like a return to REM's pre-"Document" days on quite a few of the songs.
The Who: Hope I die before I get old.
REM: Hey steady steady
Hey steady steady
I don't wanna go 'til I'm good and ready
Good update.....
Music will provide the light you cannot resist

hehe totally!!
Welcome back, REM!!!! You have been sorely missed. You know, I read alot of disparaging posts with respect to REM. They seem to be a love 'em or hate 'em band and nothing they do will satisfy the hate 'ems in the crowd (despite the fact that most of the hate 'ems seem to rally around the "they were much better in their earlier years" mantra). This new disc is definitely a harken back to their original sound. I hear Chronic Town, Murmur, and Document on this one.
Keep playing them, Bill.
Are you guys nuts??! This bops! and Rocks!
Guess not enough "dulcet" for you guys, huh. Fah!

I'm not sure I've ever heard Bill say that he really doesn't like something that he's giving airtime to! But, I think I have to agree.

I saw the low ratings a couple days ago and thought "oh god, REM disappoints again. Damn."
But NO! You guys just don't know rockin' music!
Well it is pretty monotone for REM's usual sound, but I think it's OK - a sort of punk-ish feel to it. I'm down.
three old guys trying too hard to be "edgy."
Taking into consideration all the crap music in the world...I like it!
Bill, you're right. It stinks.
So many great songs in the LRC and this makes the cut? WTF?

...so do we blame warner brothers for the past eighteen years, or do we blame REM?..
It pains me greatly to hear this and that other new song (Supercalifragalistic-whatever), especially after getting my hopes up from reading some moderately enthusiastic reviews.
The change in sound shouldn't be a surprise, really. If you know anything about R.E.M. you know that every few albums they decide to crank the amps to 11 and remind themselves not to take music too seriously. (See: Life's Rich Pageant and Monster)
However, what is also unsurprising is that sheer enthusiasm can't make up for lazy songwriting. And sadly, the latter has been the overall trend for R.E.M. since they released Automatic.
Just my 2 cents.

I need to have a look at the lyrics. There may be some sort of clever thing going on there. The music itself is garbage.
DITTO!
Ah, c'mon, if you know R.E.M. you'll thank your stars they're back...

This is not one of their best..*sigh*
is this REM? ugh!
Better than their previous efforts (or lack there of).
