Hold that chrysalis in your palm,
see it split and change.
It won't do you any harm,
it's just trying to rearrange.
It was born to live a day,
now it flies up from your hand.
It's beautiful,
it's the one they call your ever-loving man.

Wolves have carried your babies away,
oh, your kids drip from their teeth.
The nights are long and the day
is bitter cold beyond belief.
You spread yourself like a penitent
upon the mad vibrating sand,
and through your teeth
arrange to meet your midnight man.

Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round.
Oh, baby, don't you see?
Everybody wants to be
your midnight man

Don't disturb me as I sleep,
treat me gentle when I wake.
Don't disturb me as I sleep,
even though your body aches
even though your body aches
to serve at his command.
Between the wars
she still adores her ever-loving man.

Close your eyes, sleep in him,
dream of your lost sons and daughters.
Me, I'll raise up the dorsal fin
and glide up and down the waters.
I'll glide up and down the waters
then I'll walk upon the land,
and call 'em out,
the ones who doubt your midnight man.

Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round.
Oh, darling, don't you see?
Everybody wants to be
your midnight man

It's early in the morning
and I don't know what to do.
It's early in the morning
and I can't believe it's true.
It's early in the morning
and it's happening again;
I called you once, I called you twice.
Ain't I your midnight man?

Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round to my place.
Everybody's coming round.
They want you, they love you.
They need to be
your midnight man.

Everybody's coming round to be your midnight man.

Love that the most recent comments (from 15 years ago) are all complaints. Welcome back to the rotation, Midnight Man!
So it's 30 Jan 09 and I just watched Nick Cave on Letterman. I feel sick. What the hell was that? How did this guy get on TV? It sounded like 3 shitty songs being played at the same time. I'm just saying, he must have pictures of someone fucking an otter.
Darn. Started out okay, but then it just fell apart! Nick needs to rewrite that one.
Turning it off now. Yuk.
{#Neutral}  time for a different nick cave song now....  geez there are so many, this one's a hog....

i dig. a solid 6.
A bad Nick Cave song doesn't even beat a pair.{#Snooty}
Not my favorite song off the album, but even a bad Nick Cave song beats the hell out of a lot of the stuff I hear these days.

I guess you won't be going around to his place then?
A little Nick Cave sucks. A lot of Nick Cave, like one tune per hour practically in the past few weeks, is beyond bad. He's nothing but a poseur. Nick Cave, go away.
Oh my a love 'em or hate 'em, dichotomy has reared its ugly head. Can't we all just agree that this is; ... FREEKIN AWESOME MUSIC !!! ... whether or not you like it?

Um, excuse me darlin', but we are all speaking for ourselves. Hey! I have an idea let's stop the personal attacks and just give our own opinions, about the music, and promise not to take it personally, and allow for our differences , as most of the artists played here would promote .
Well..um..darlin', you'll note in the post I was responding to, the words "us" and "we" were used. I just wanted it to let it be known that I'd rather not be included in the "us"--and to express MY opinion about the music. Not sure how that's a personal attack.

Track sounds horrible. Whole album sounds horrible. If there's a block of time during the day this noise plays, let us know, so we can avoid it, please.

I like giving new things a try, but have you heard the words he is using? Lyrics bad , tune bad, for the first time I think we need a zero on the rating scale
Dig it, indeed! Love the Steppenwolf bits! I can never forget seeing him doing this way back in '91 when he was the rock star "Freak Storm" in white Bowie-suit and the wild Edgar Winters hair-do he sported in that wild Indie flick, Johnny Suede...nor how, so Satan-like and seductively, he convinced Brad Pitt's character to eat the dumpster-dive chicken that nearly kills him. Nick, you're so freakin' versatile!
All his songs sound the same to me because of his vocal stylings. And his vocals always make the songs sound so ponderous. I don't even like the music on this one; discordant.
I don't get it. Seems like very forgettable stuff to me.
How could I let a Nick Cave song go by, especially one from this horrible album, without puttin' out some serious hate?
I WAS IN NICK CAVE CONCERT ON FRIDAY EVENING. IT WAS FINE. 2.2 HOURS LIVE!
I like it!
