Dopamine rising.
The city is buzzing and shining
like your jewelry tonight.
And it feels wonderful to fall in love
with my own artificial chemicals.
Stay.
Cause I'm freakishly lonely
and if you're not afraid of freaks,
tell me your name.
You made love to her tonight.
Now you're both sleeping warm and tight.
Well I'm still awake diseased by goodbyes.
And dawn is showing an abandoned mutant child.
Dopamine rising.
Dopamine falling.
Stay.
Cause I'm freakishly lonely
and if you're not afraid of freaks
tell me your name.
Dopamine rising.
Stay.
Stay, cause I'm freakishly lonely
and if you're not afraid of freaks
tell me your name.
Stay, cause I'm a freak and I'm lonely.
Just admit you're a freak
and tell me your name.

I'm sure your anti-endorsement of her appearance has sent her into a depressive death-spiral. Because the single most important thing about a female singer is whether you want to bang her, right?
I really enjoyed this. And her reference to dopamine is accurate btw - for the record.
Did anybody watch Stephen Colbert Wednesday night?  He played a clip from The Flaming Lips of a live concert performed recently in which every band member and audience member were placed inside huge bubbles for protection.  It was unbelievable and it brought me to tears.  If you're interested, it's on YouTube.  Search for "Flaming Lips Bubble".

Petty.  From Wikipedia: "anticipation of most types of rewards increases the level of dopamine in the brain".

Good enough for me.  Not too out of context with the lyrics.

Not particularly.

Not spoil it for you but I think Stringray pasted away years ago...

I guess if she were a neuroscientist the song would be different.

What's it like in the (apparently) undereducated region you inhabit? In truth, my exposure to the folks just north of Boston leads me to suspect that whatever overeducation might exist in Boston drops away rapidly as one heads only a few miles north. Still, your comment seeps ignorance.....

Still - shut-up Swami Sawati!

...wonderful autumnal song...
If those strings are in the same room as her, she has the ear of a godess, because she's dead on.

"Blackjack" is another good song...Think I also heard it here.

Twee, now THERE is a fantastic word.  Is there any song out there with 'twee' in it?

Actually, there's an entire genre of music called Twee, also known as kindercore. Ask the Google and ye shall learn.

For the tune. . . its a 3 from me for 'twee noodling', not impressed at all. . . a bit self-indulgent for me.

Yes, it scares the ignorant masses of the GOP herd here in the USA.
Out of tune,,even the drum ! Hurts !{#Arghhh}
It's like the "from the heart" kind of sound that used to get played in "Thirty Something"...and now gets played in "Brothers and Sisters"..
normally when someone's: died, divorced, married, etc...ahh I feel all Sally Field inside.

I was just thinking the same thing.  I appreciate both songs more played back to back.  Bill truly is a genius!

Yep, definitely got a kind of sitar feel to it.

One of those songs that are most interesting on the first listen and go downhill from there. 6 => 3. Dopamine falling, interest falling, sleepiness rising... {#Sleep}

growing on me actually...
I'm pretty sure this won't hold up that well to repetition for me, but I'm enjoying it on my first couple of listens.
It reminds me of one of my favorite extinct bands - Crash Vegas.
"The majority of the Swati tribe reside in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, and are the predominant population in the districts of Mansehra,Batagram and to some extent in Kohistan as well."
I love the string parts on this, along with her guitar.  Really unusual stuff.
Similar to "Blackjack", just not quite as good.  Still nice tho...
I'm a sucker for a 2/3 beat

Very different, but like it a lot.
6!!?!!!?!! You all nuts?

Solid 8 from me.

And I love the guitar analysis.
Just in case anyone else is sitting at home trying to follow on guitar, she is playing an 8-string in drop D-flat tuning. That's a 12-string guitar with only the trebles doubled, and the bottom E dropped to D-flat.

Very inventive musically, and a nice voice too.
Wow – I really hear echoes of Kirsty MacColl in her voice.
{#Biggrin}
Great Springsteen cover on this album as well
...i like this - glad to hear something else by her...
Swati does absolutely great things with a guitar. Good pick. :)

Lyrics aren't exactly perfect, but, well, you can't have everything.

I wonder if this is about bipolar syndrome (aka 'Manic depression'). It's the references to dopamine falling/rising that's got me thinking that way, as that brain chemical is heavily implicated in this condition (and others, such as schizophrenia). Or maybe it's about more general mental illness. Interesting number, worth an initial 6 from the Nottingham jury.
spank me swati, . . .   you'll keep me awake!
