Reborn and shivering
Spat out on new terrain
Unsure, unconvincing
This faint and shaky hour
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
I'm barely making sense
For now I'm faking it
'Till I'm pseudo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as I and not as we
Gun-shy and quivering
Timid without a hand
Feign brave with steel intent
Little and hardly here
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
With not much making sense
Just yet I'm faking it
'Till I'm pseudo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as I and not as we
Eyes wet toward
Wide open frayed
If God's taking bets
I pray he wants to lose
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
I'm barely making sense
Just yet I'm faking it
'Till I'm pseudo making it
From scratch, begin again

Okay, that's a musical I could get behind...I wonder how Nicholson's singing voice is?
Why do I always want to replace "Day One..." with "Red Rum" in the lyrics?
Oh yeah.. because I'm odd.

Obviously, this is a song about her divorce. Yeah, I'd run for the door too if I had to listen day after day to that overly-calculated yodel she cultivates as a vocal "style."
Jesus, that's awful, down there with high school "talent" contest crap.
a "1" ... and well-deserved

Thank goodness Alanis Morissette's 15 minutes are up. She makes me hurl.
sappy
At first I thought this was going to be Alanis's version of "My Humps". (worth a youtube)

That's the one part I liked. Yes, it's cutesy, but I think it's sincere and it shows some cleverness and creativity.
Someone needs to come to Alanis' defense here, and I'll use this semi-positive comment as a starting point.
Alanis is IMHO a very smart, clever and creative pop artist with a fine voice and some excellent choice of collaborators.
After hearing the first single of her first album, long beyond the overplay, overhype, overeverything occurred, I went to a listening station at a record store and heard the entire album straight through. It was fresh, ballsy, challenging, rocking, fun, thought provoking, well performed and well produced. Despite all the over's noted above I continued on to repeated listenings finding particular interest in letsser tracks like Forgiven (which I relate to as a a lapsed catholic) and Not the Doctor.
Damn good album. The second was good but not as and the idea of following the rest just drifted. But Jagged Little Pill was excellent.

song is fine with me...perhaps it's the grey sky, light rain, relationship ending soon...

Did she really say "I'm pseudo-making it?" What a pseudo-intellectual.
I believe that she is trying to be 'post-modern'.
Yeah, pretty lame. We may share a hometown but I ain't impressed.

I simply cannot make up my mind about Alanis. Ying and Yang.
I have heard this elsewhere and I certainly have none of her recordings; I think it was on an episode of "House". Well, it doesn't really matter.
sarah fimm > new U2 > this = three "2's" in a row. yikes.

No, not cutesy. An instance of a larger problem, namely a rampant epidemic of people trying to sound smarter than they are by throwing around terms like "pseudo-" and "quasi-".

Too precious
Another boring, breathy song from Alanis with a failed attempt at clevre wordplay, and unimaginative lyrics.
I didn't know there had been another Alanis album last year. Something else to check out.
I've only heard this here. Heard it a few times now. I'm changing from a 7 to an 8.
One of her better...later....songs.
Ah, from Harriett's sublime vocals (Sundays - Wild Horses) to Alanis' screeching. Sorry Bill, this segue needs some work. Not that you aren't still the master of the segue.

She got to me today.

Am I especially irritable today, or have the last few songs really been that bad?

Wow. This was the first voice I heard this morning. Think I'll go back to bed and try again.
i knew it. ugh. i think i killed any love for alanis when i listened to her "jagged little pill" WAY too much in college.

Nuance is completely lost on this woman.
I give it a 3, but it's not really "ho hum," rather it's cloying. 3's generous, come to think of it.
Very nice!
Wow and Douche Mode on the LRC. It's like being caught in a giant pair of scissors.

The Neko Case song played after this puts this to shame.

God, have I ever been there.
Whew.
Good job with the lyrics. Not overdone, very poignant.

Normally I love Alanis, but I think this song might make my penis fall off.

Agreed. Very nice.
I know a lot of people hate Alanis. I've never minded her. And I think this song is somewhat beautiful, with a good balance of simpleness and emotion.

Thanks for adding and playing my upload, Bill!
Would have to agree...simple and very pretty.
