Rosalee
Where you been so long?
Rosalee, Rosalee
Where you been so long?
When you smile at me
All the lights come on.
Stop!
Rosalee, Rosalee
Come and dance with me again
Rosalee, Rosalee
Come and dance with me again
You're my one true love,
You're my oldest friend
It don't matter now
Who was right and who was wrong
It don't matter now
Who was right and who was wrong
Because you're here with me
I'm back where I belong
Rosa, come out here
in the summer night
Can you see out there,
Almost out of sight?
Your lovin' calls to me
Like that far distant light
Yeah!
OOOh Ro-o-o-o-o-o-o-sa
Again
Where you been so long?
Rosalee, Rosalee
Where you been so long?
When you smile at me
All the lights come on.
Stop!
Rosalee, Rosalee
Come and dance with me again

Egads!
I'm doing my morning physical therapy/yoga routine and I'm listening to this song.
I'm saying to myself thats Lucinda W.
But wait! Something is diffrent! I lose my balance and then have to check who it was.
I was fooled. I tell you, I was fooooooooled!

Be on the lookout for new Cyndi Lauper release, "Memphis Blues". Raw & gritty, I am told. REAL. Many nice guests, Musselwhite, BB King, etc. Supposed to come out this month, I believe.

concrete proof that even elite musical outlets such as RP can overplay a song..
regardless, the song itself sounds like like typical corporate-engineered rock.
what's really sad is that the song sounds like the pretenders trying to imitate the white stripes' coarse style by artificially "roughing up" the song.. the result seems contrived at best, particularly with the overdubbed-in "stop" and "again" which just sounds DUMB DUMB DUMB..
"again" i say DUMB DUMB DUMB...
a solid "5"

Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Pretenders, and this song in particular, are why we need something lower than a 1 - Sucko-Barfo rating!!!
Whoo hoo! For once someone agrees with me. :-) Usually I just get slammed for having an opinion.
And yes, I have heard their albums, not just the radio hits. My ex loved the Pretenders and would play them quite often. I never cared for any of it, and the few songs that got overplayed on the radio didn't help. Sorry anyone who's a fan...just my two cents.

Sounds like... Lucinda Williams. Not bad... This is the best pretenders I have heard.
ENOUGH, ENOUGH, ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
Good effort, so-so production. 7
Chrissie, chicky baby, where's that swagger, where's your cruel vocal edge? This feels more like a sound check than anything else. Way weak effort from Ms. Hynde. Stumbles and never gets up.
I can't remember the last time I cringed listening to RP.
But this is just horrible. 2/10.

Jeepers! I thought this was purty good..
guess I was wrong, according to my RP collegues
Tired, battered-down intoxicated Lucinda Williamslike vocals, tattered slide guitar...still think it was purty good
I hate being wrong

There are some really good songs on this new Pretenders album. This is NOT one of them. This one is just... wrong. And overplayed already.

I don't know, but there's something a little false about sounding like good-ol' farting-amps rock'n'roll when you're at Chrissie Hynde's stage of her career.

I hate the Pretenders too.Never liked 'em. Always thought their crappy songs got too much radio airplay, especially Middle of the Road, Back on the Chain Gange and Brass in Pocket. Another band that I just don't see the appeal in and another reason to go running for mute button.

Ok, officially sick of this song now.

Ever heard any of their non-radio stuff, perchance? It's awesome, which is why they have so many thousands of fans worldwide. And even Chrissie hates "Brass in Pocket," her record label made her put that out as their "single."
Agreed. The best songs on the Pretenders albums (and most other artists, I believe) were the songs they did NOT play on the radio. In the days of itunes, however, people just buy songs, not albums.
Sad.

Can someone please help me understand why I hate the Pretenders? I sincerely do, but can't put my finger on why. Sorry Ms. Hynde - nothing personal. Although that "Middle of the Road" tune is pretty cool. It was one of the few songs I actually liked playing w/my old band...
Anyway (and seriously), any help would be appreciated. If it helps, I hate Stevie Nicks too (because she sounds like 2 cats being stapled together).

Dear Ashlee Simpson - please listen to Chrissie Hynde and learn what a real woman who plays real rock 'n' roll sounds like.
I like it mucho.

Loving the thick rhythm guitar. I saw Chrissie in her first concert back after the loss of James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon, with new band featuring Robbie Macintosh, at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas in 1984. She knew that Dallas would be good to her in her return to the stage, and it was. Chrissie put on one hell of a show. She is a real trooper. I've had a love affair going with her for many, many years now.
