When I look up to the skies
I see your eyes a funny kind of yellow
I rush home to bed I soak my head
I see your face underneath my pillow
I wake next morning tired still yawning
See your face come peeking through my window
Pictures of matchstick men and you
Mirages of matchstick men and you
All I ever see is them and you
Windows echo your reflection
When I look in their direction gone
When will this haunting stop
Your face it just wont leave me a-lone
Pictures of matchstick men and you
Mirages of matchstick men and you
All I ever see is them and you
You in the sky you with this guy you make men cry you lie
You in the sky you with this guy you make men cry you lie
Pictures of matchstick men, Pictures of matchstick...

Great opening. Actually, that's the best part.

I think it was supposed to sort of hurt.
Nice trip down memory land, although reading another commentators mention of "all the way back to grade school" reminds me that I was almost to high school by that point. I'm getting old.

Unfortunately, this song quite literally hurt my ears... could it just be the particular recording?
nice segue from Jesse Sykes & Sweet Hereafter, I think

I wouldn't have been able to dredge up the name of this band for anything.

Oh, yes!
This one blew our young minds way back when. Wish I could return to that time, and that feeling.

Wow, all the way back to elementary school for me.
Not a one hit wonder!
Loved it then. Love it now. Like having both it and and CVB cover in the mix.
Re Bill's comments about their long UK career, fascinating story. Here's AMG's take: https://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:apfexq95ldde~T1

What a fun song. The only thing I'd change would be to put the Camper Van Beethoven version of it in the playlist instead...
It is in the playlist already-last played Feb 1Being around when this was "modern" rock, this was quite the popular song for us "heads". Camper does a great version, but the original still has the flashbacks kicking in. Thanks for digging this up.

Wow, haven't heard this in many moons - it was a favorite of mine in hi skul! Thanks RP!

Very near the top of my guilty pleasure hit parade (and the Camper Van Beethoven cover cracks me up everytime).
I knew the CVB version was a cover, but I had never heard the original. I'm not sure which one I like better.
Hurts my ears.

I never realized that Camper Van Beethoven were doing a cover DOH!

Cool. But CVB's cover rocked the original. One of the few instances (like Hendrix covering Dylan).
Brings back lots of memories of High School days. Love the Wah-Wah. <Please pass the bong.>
cool.. donovan reincarnated!
