Lyrics:

You're on a highwire and I'm climbing out
And I feel the danger as I steal a kiss from your mouth
And I will try to hold steady
Wanna make you believe
That the height of this tightrope is just second nature to me

But I will break
All my bones
'Cause I lied about the vertigo
And I have
Never been up this high
There'll be no safety net
When I fall right our of the sky
There will be no ambulance waiting
And I have no wings to fly

So we will meet on the borders,
Barefoot and blessed
In colorful graveyards with flower bouquets for the dead
And I don't ask you to promise
That I will not come to harm
But when the wind tugs my courage will you be my brother in arm

'Cause I will break
All my bones
'Cause I lied about the vertigo
And I have
Never been up this high
There'll be no safety net
When I fall right our of the sky
There will be no ambulance waiting
And I have no wings to fly

Oh the view from this height
High above the ferriswheel lights
Might cause me to sway
But I am teaching myself to be brave

And I may break all my bones
'Cause I lied about the vertigo
And I have
Never been up this high
There'll be no safety net
When I fall right our of the sky
There will be no ambulance waiting
And I have no wings to fly
Long time since i heard this one, still great!

Good point, but I've heard Eliza so much it's easy for me to tell the difference. Love Antje's voice. And Eliza's too, although her songwriting is really the draw.

I made this comment elsewhere, but in performance Antje's voice does not have the range and power heard in her in recordings. Maybe her voice was worn out from touring, but when I saw her in 2010, she was not hitting the higher notes that exist in the recorded work. Eliza G has much more command over her singing, with much more practice I suppose. And as a songwriter, Eliza G is, in my opinion, one of the better ones today.
This song is wonderful.  What a great description of falling in love

This song gets better with every listen.  What a great voice!
I just love this song. It's sweet and the lyrics are fresh and evocative.

I am the wire and you are the dancer
or was it you are pavement and I am the blood splat.

Come on Antje go back to the metaphors {#Tongue-out}
Blech!

I just bumped it to an 8. Beautiful vocals. I love melancholy songs.

Good to hear. She's positively narcoleptic on this number {#Sleep}

She doesn't hold a snuffed candle to Margo Timmins (of Cowboy Junkies), who is the Queen of Narcolepsy.

Agreed:

'Cause I lied about the vertigo
And I have never been up this high
There'll be no safety net
When I fall right out of the sky
There will be no ambulance waiting
And I have no wings to fly

Just because you are a girl and can play some guitar should not ,should not, be a reason to get played on RP !!! R,are you hearing me !?

So it's "Rebecca-and-the-girls" and not

"Bill-and-his-babes" as I thought...?

It's Rebecca with the trousers...? Smiling!!!!
good ol' whiner...

Intelligent ear you must have... Richard Shindell produced this and he has spent a great deal of time in the studio, and on the road, with Lucy.
Btw, Antje is currently touring with Shindell.  Should be a great show!

Hoping to catch them later this month in NJ.

Agree, it started with a vocal angst that had me reaching for a sub-5 rating, but then it moved towards heart and warmth and all things good in life.

This song (and her voice) has really grown on me....and I do hear the Nanci Griffith in there (as someone commented)...and that's ALL GOOD!

I've heard this song several times on RP and the more I hear it the more like it. Was on my way to the iTunes store when I read your comment. Saved me a buck! - THANKS!

Not all country sucks....besides - this is NOT Country.  You think just because someone has a folksy sound that they are country??  redic.
I ALWAYS think this is Nanci Griffith when it starts out....and several times thru it....love it

No accounting for taste. Personally I think this is a beautiful heart felt song.
First time I have heard it and I had to check who's playing so I can find more from her. {#Clap}

I found the song quite pleasant to listen to, FWIW.

Damn you people are harsh.

I'm with you in regard to this artist. She gets an A in cover art, however.

Every song I hear from here brings the smell of a high school gymnasium to my nose, and I'm sitting there waiting for the song to be over and I can politely applaud and wait for the next talent show contestant to take the stage.  The upper and lower ends of her register are just weak and her music is just so bland, IMHO.

This song makes me cry.  It could be about turnips, I don't know.  Something about the delivery is just so sweet.
Sounds a lot like Lucy Kaplansky...
I liked the last song I heard from this album, and I like this song. Is the whole album similar? Not like all the songs are the same, just is this one way slower or faster or countryer (I know thats not a word) that the other songs on the album?
Would be nice if she could do something a bit more challenging.

He was on every tv network for the entire time he was  up there. Of course, that was just three networks.

We all thought he would fall.

This song was a perfect fit for this day in my life.  I would love to find the lyrics (the link here is incorrect and I cannot locate them)
Really lovely and just what I needed today.
I'll say it, I like this.
