The stars and stripes won't keep you warm at night
Won't keep those evil empires from your door
The union jack strapped across your back
Has lost some of the strength it had before
The families of your men can't be ignored

This land of green becoming so obscene
A chance to have a history to tell
A fairy tale nation up for sale
They sell in San Francisco oh so well
Put your bullets down you may as well

The ground on which you stand
Not owned by any man
Oh this fragile peace
So close your weary eyes
That old romantic prize
It never can be reached
It never can be
Oh tell me that you love me

The stars and stripes won't keep you warm at night
Won't keep those evil empires from your door
A fairytale nation up for sale
The families of your men can't be ignored
Put your bullets down now I implore

The ground on which you stand
Not owned by any man
Oh this fragile peace
So close your weary eyes
That old romantic prize
It never can be reached
It never can be reached
It never can be reached

It can't be reached
The stars and stripes won't keep you warm at night
Won't keep those evil empires from your door

You still sure about that?
Vapid presentism. Lyricist doesn't know much history before the founding of the US.
Whoops—looks like someone heard the same many years ago...

...there's a little bit of "man who sold the world" in here...
Close, it came from Tim Buckley - Starsailor album which was released back in the early 70s

There are some similarities in parts of the melody but the chord progression in this song is quite different.

That was my first thought: what a strange cover version.
Love this band, always have. Great tune!

so happy to hear this on RP again. been a while. love this band.
Bill, My Man, this just sucks.  Whining, strident and moronic.  Much of what he's singing about is true, but it also true that there is a thing called "national interest".  And a need for some small measure of reasonableness in rants.  Those were things we forgot back in the Anti-Viet Nam War Movement.  You worry about drones?  Wait until you see the air full of commercial applications.  You ain't seen nothin', yet.

I like the message in this song...  speaking of which—

Secret court lets NSA extend its trawl of Verizon customers' phone records
Still hear Little Red Riding Hood :)
Love your comment on this one, Bill!!

Go drones!!!!
Winner, best sounding band with most ridiculous name. Along with Supergrass.
STOLEN MELODY!
oh, i love it when bill plays starsailor. reminds me of the early RP days. :)
Wow, have not heard this band in YEARS! Very nice! They were never well known but very solid overall.
Started with a 7, but quickly bumped it to 8. Good sound.
Pretty song, and getting abit of a "James" vibe
Yes, this song rocks. A 7 for the first time listen.

Good observation...I get the same feeling. It's a good one. Would rather hear Old 97s, though...

Great voice, great groove.  Thanks again, BillG, for introducing me to new bands!
Love the song, not so in love with the name of the band but hey? What do I know?
Enjoy this cover

Honestly, though, why should anyone care about that particular observation? Is there any reason to think that anyone else would feel the same way? And, so what, even if they did? I don't intend to be mean (although I probably come across that way, anyway) - you have every right to feel as you do. It's just that I would argue that's of value to you and worth volunteering if asked what you think - but that's not the case here. Maybe there's some way to get at that so it's somehow productive - or, if not possible, something else you could say that is instructive without inadvertently insulting someone.
Wow, I could write a book on the senselessness of this comment, but I have better things to do right now than take out the trash.

WOW!  Awesome.
At points... I expect Jorma to start singing "keep your lamps trimmed and burning."

Yes, that's a good thing.

You did smoke something before to write this, right? Or are you always that high?
I don't intend to be mean either... Although, sometimes, I can't resist. No, just kidding. Bad me!

Are you a psychobabblist?

There is nothing wrong with Grammarcop's observation.  I find a lot wrong with you trying to stifle commentary.  Buzz off!

He hasn't and most likely won't.

I believe that the British term for Mister Walsh is "Wanker Football Club Hooligan".

What ever floats his boat; he does have some good pipes.

I didn't think that I liked this group but this is a good song.

I'm enjoying this! Thanks, Bill.

Great new track—I love Starsailor.
