I'm curious if there is a sort of stereotype for Hebrew speakers who don't go for the gutteral "khh" sound. Would they be criticized as a more cosmopolitan, Westernized speaker?

I speak fluent Hebrew and when I hear this song I find nothing out of the ordinary in how she sings with the hard "kh" sound, as this is how Hebrew is spoken. Think of it as three incremental options used for different things: "sh", "ch", and "kh" - so no, I'm positive that she didn't chose to emphasize this.
On the other hand, when I hear German, Danish, or Dutch it sounds very hard to my ear because I, like you, am not used to their specific hard dialects.

Please keep politics to minimum. Anyone/everyone is doing politics. It is boring, tiresome and there is always another side to the issue. Spend more time in halls of Parliament and see that "Politics is a conversation that never ends" The goal is not a conclusion, just more conversations... It's the same in every democracy. Only totalitarians have answers before conversations and reach final conclusions.

I was never a big fan of "World Music", but then this is from my part of the world and it's quite a treat. I saw the Idan Raichel Project earlier this year at an outdoor gig at the end of Israel Independence Day. We lay on the grass staring up at the stars and it was perfectly pleasant.
"Blech".."blech" "melekh"..."Blech"...
My favourite Israeli singer is Noa (Achinoam Nini). Beautiful voice - sings in Hebrew, English, Italian, SPanish - you name it :)

If you give a negative rating because you do not like the song, based upon its musical merits (or lack thereof, in your opinion), so be it. But to hate because you have an issue with Israel, is, well, petty.

Thanks Bill for playing this! I first heard of Idan Raichel through RP and am in love with his different projects. His music has also inspired my study of Hebrew. Thanks for playing these beautiful songs!

Very nice. I bought the album after hearing it on RP, it's all good. Of course you have to have an open mind to accept something different (which we all don't seem to have...)
There are few pieces on this station that make me cringe...this is one of them. At best, this sounds like muzak.

I really enjoyed this - she has a beautiful, soft voice, and the mixture of different sounds the band uses is quite appealing - east and west together.

Ever eat putrefied shark? Well from what I understand it tastes as bad as it smells, yet some people like it quite a bit after it's sat under a heavy load of gravel for a few weeks. If ya accept that but aren't going to eat it you're not a narrow minded couch potato, you just know what you like.
Nice melody and production. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the "foreign" language (Hebrew?) doesn't bother me.
