The day I took my love away
I swear I thought I heard
My own heart whispering
It's dying words
'Cause it's a hard line that you take
Take a lifetime to make it
Don't do it for mine but for your own sake
If you choose to take it
The day I let our love die
I stood by it until it's last... sigh
And disappeared from the scene of the crime
Locked away to serve my time
'Cause it's a hard line that you take
Take a lifetime to make it
Don't do it for mine but for your own sake
If you choose to take it
There's a great divide
Where a line is drawn
Oh you must decide
Which half you're standin' on
'Cause it's a hard line that you take
Take a lifetime to make it
Don't do it for mine but for your own sake
If you choose to take it
The day I met a new love
Well how could I be sure
Whether it was ever true love
That I had known before
I swear I thought I heard
My own heart whispering
It's dying words
'Cause it's a hard line that you take
Take a lifetime to make it
Don't do it for mine but for your own sake
If you choose to take it
The day I let our love die

I love Jill Barber! She's got a vocal range that allows everything from straight up folk to smoky jazz.

Along with Rose Cousins and Meaghan Smith, Jill Barber put out a really great Christmas album called A New Kind of Light a year later in 2007.
The timbre of her voice is ridiculously sexy.

I love these "childlike voices". Thinking Lou Rhodes from Lamb and Kelli Dayton from Sneaker Pimps.
The music forces me to move my hips, too!

Sounds to be influenced by Katy Tunstall
nice, thanks Bill
Love Jill's voice. More please!
Haven't heard this one in a long time......Jill is quite remarkable live. Sweet memories!

Remarkable lyrics. Also, careful, there, lefties. I ran across a statistic that says we don't live as long. Probably has to do with those right-handed scissors.

I'm a leftie and I know other lefties who strum with their left hand, but it has always seemed very unnatural that way to me. But I also use a right handed hockey stick and I kick right footed even though I write, throw and bat left handed. And I've never had a problem with scissors or using a mouse in the right hand. Yeah, I know, who cares.

Digging this on a Sunday morning!
Saw her sing this last night at the Spatz... <3 her brother Matthew opened for her. Those Barber siblings are the cat's pajamas!

Her voice is tolerable, but man what great music behind it!
Sounds a bit much like Stevie Nicks for my taste.

Right. This is the Jill Barber song that I like that doesn't have that awful warble that her new one has.
Her new album comes out in April.
My first visit for a wee while, and what a corker for the first song. Really like that.
The dulcet stylings of Stevie Nicks with an up-north twist. Very easy on the ear.
Nice choice Bill, I love Jill's music. She puts on a great show live too.

Jill, you have to venture Sud of the border - love ya!
Reminds me of Iris DeMint...not as twangy tho....nice

I Jill Barber. I went to see In Flight Safety last friday at the Paramount and the show rocked, but I had no idea prior to going that Jill was going to be playing! So it was a pleasant surprise. She is talented and wonderful...
I spent much of today in the darkroom developing film and printing contact sheets and I desperately wanted to print a PICTURE so this and the next one are what I did. I dried them with the hair dryer then used the hot press to flatten, so that I could take em home today to put up on my wall!!! ~morgie-e
Good job; nice photo. Good tune also.

A little bit of Dido, a little bit of Stevie Nicks = a whole bunch a Jill.
Infectious fun. Nice voice. Good hook. Fun times. Two-word. Answers all.

ouch. ick.
Every time Jill Barber comes on I think it's Sarah Harmer. Very similar voices, don't you think? And the song composition isn't so different either.
diggin' it, snappin' fingers. in line with the waifs. very nice and sweet.

Another great artist RP turned me on to. Thanks!
so so so true
Jill is ably backed up on the album by Jim Cuddy on guitar and Basil Donovan playing bass. These guys are members of the band Blue Rodeo, who have been on the Canadian music scene since the stone age - or at least it seems that long.
