Do right, use your head, everybody must be fed
Get together, break your bread, yes, together, that's what I said
Do what you like
Don't fight
Don't fight, use your head, it's all right every night
Do what you like, that's what I said
Everybody must be fed, do what you like
Open your eyes, realize you're not dead
Take a look at an open book
Do what you like, that's what I said, do what you like
Do right, use your head, everybody must be fed
Get together, break some bread, yes together, that's what I said
Do what you like
Open your eyes, use your head, realize that you're not dead
Take a look at an open book, let it cook
That's what I said, do what you like

Why only a 6! This must be a mistake...a solid 8-9 imho
Thanks for this!!! I spent many hours playing this album and this song in particular as a freshman in high school.
Well, its about time you play tribute to Ginger.
Last night, I heard his 20 minute drum solo on the live version of the song, TOAD.
The man could play.

RIP Mr Baker
Heard this when I was impressionable, and didn't much like it then, don't much like it now either. Still a bit impressionable though.
There were better drum solos as well!

this is Mariora Goschen today:
by the way, she was 11 at the time.

a quicky indeed
Decent enough in a Santana-ish way for the first 5 minutes or so, then goes rapidly downhill and meanders into a pointless corner. Great when performed live, I'm sure, but it sure does get boring 'on air'. 6 for the first bit, 2 for the last. Nice segue from Kan'Nai, though.
I wonder how many bands would publish a cover like that in these days of 'pedo-scare'? There was enough aggro when Bow Wow Wow did their pastiche of Dejeuner sur l'Herbe back in the day, with a 15yo girl naked on the cover, and that was back view only, no nipples. This cover would likely draw prosecution as kiddie porn these days, sadly...
Yeesh, this is still f*cking going. Some tight editing would have done this track a lot of favours

average rating of six? you've got to be kidding! 10/10 for me!
1. Nice boobs.
2. Drum solo? Are you kidding me? Get real.

Wow, this is a blast from the past. I haven't heard this song since the last time I had the vinyl on the turntable - which puts it about 30 years ago.
I can remember getting this album with the alternate cover and later seeing the original cover in a magazine (perhaps Creem) and thinking "I wuz robbed!"

You know what, it is in fact in five. Good catch.
It's a dumbed down five, though —- I mean, listen to this, and then listen to what Brubeck and Morello did.
Compare the hihat work in solos, Baker straight quarters (which any drummer worth his salt can do) vs. Morello on the two and the five, which I still marvel at.
And now I'll look for some help from my fellow drummers out there — the solo sounds like it takes a lot of liberties with time signatures. Morello stayed in five in the Take Five solo.
Sorry — I just do not like Ginger Baker's playing.
The bass line sounds identical to the rhythm of Brubeck's "Take Five", that is, it sounds very much like it's in 5/4 time. At the time, that must have been a very hip jazz element to include in a rock song of any kind.

Interesting observation, I've heard this song countless times over the years but listening to it tonight I started thinking this sounds like Brubeck until Ginger Baker took it to the more is just more school of drumming. I remember when the album came out and the talk about it was the fact that 2 groups at the height of their popularity had joined together, that was a new thing, we didn't know about jazz so much.

ginger baker was (and still is) a remarkable drummer. yeah, the track is a big sloppy silly jam, but the drum solo is, to my mind, staggering.
Sure, there's a bit of a self-indulgent quality about this, but it is an artifact of a time and place. Also, not really so bad. It has taken years for me to appreciate Steve Winwood, although I had several Traffic albums back when they were active. This is not a 2009 recording, thus it does not sound like one. I fear that listening to internet radio at work (I do this often) tends to blunt the positives about music that works better in a comtemplative or low stress environment. Set y setting. Maybe a more modified environment is what I mean.
It's not Jazz. The drum solo is inevitable. The album art sucks. This has got to be the funniest (funny weird) page of comments I've seen at RP. But, I do love the song, so I'm biased, I guess...

Jazz? A slight clavet feel, maybe, but I don't hear any jazz at all. Listen to how square Baker's groove is.
Blind Fatih: A testament to extended solos from talented artisits. Steve Winwood's first attempt to introduce jazz structures to rock music. See "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" for his followup attempt two years later.
It takes an acquired taste to enjoy this, as it also takes for Mahler or Coltrane.

Quaalude inspired music.

Can you say "self-indulgent"???
Sheesh, that has got to be the epitome of the 70's inevitable drum solo.

...please make it stop...
Sorry, this is one of my all time favorite albums and I was always a sucker for the "extended" tunes - especially with a good bass solo. You need to see the young phenom Tal Wilkenfeld in action with Jeff Beck for a more contemporary bass player. And, yes, Ginger Baker is the greatest drummer of all time ;^)

They don't make "marital aids" like the one she's holding anymore, do they?
Tuned in to RP just before the drum solo started. I didn't realise it was Ginger Baker - it was so astoundingly boring.
Also, the mixdown of the drums on this track is dire - did the producer think that having out of phase, hard-panned drums sounded good because it was so 'weird' or were they just on an acid trip the whole time they were behind the desk? I like almost everything played on RP (and I like most kinds of music, heck I grew up on 70s rock thanks to the parents) but this is one record I would gladly have expunged from the playlist permanently.
3/10 for the psychedelic ending though! "B Flat yeah"

..but *that* one was worth it!
A group of tourists was on a safari in deepest darkest Africa.
Every night drums pounded in the distance and it pissed them off to the point that they asked the guides why the drums wouldn't stop.
"Drums good. When drums stop, very bad." said the guides.
This went on for a few more days and out of sheer lack of sleep the tourists asked again why the drums wouldn't stop.
"Drums good. When drums stop, very, very bad."
One night the drums stopped. There was panic in the eyes of the guides and they started to scatter in every direction.
"What's wrong?"
"Drums stop. VERY VERY BAD."
"Why ... why is it so bad?!"
"BASS SOLO!"

I truly hated this tune! I have never made a negative comment on Radio Paradise before but this was truly outstandingly bad. I have rarely heard a drum solo I like though, they should be banned.

Nah... from Wikipedia:
"Rumours about the girl's relationship to the band fuelled the controversy; among them were that she was Baker's illegitimate daughter, and that she was a groupie kept as a slave by the band members. Actually, the young girl was a London suburbanite, who posed upon consent by her parents and for a fee, as described in Seidemann's mini essay about the origins of the Blind Faith album cover artwork.<7>"
