Drain, the dirt, into the wasteland
Pray, for sound, to quiet the howling
Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever
Kneel, to fade, the day's corrosion
Crawl, depart, towards perdition
Gray, the part, the bruise within you
Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever
Forever
Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever
That cracks me up, as Einaudi is where RP energy always seems to grind to a halt. People swoon over him in the comments, but it messes with my flow all the time when I'm working and the soft plinky piano music starts going.
Are you my mummy?
Doctor Who reference, I believe. Creepy/great episode.
What a wonderfully descriptive account my fellow #cannabiscousin. Your Cousin' Nikolai appreciates the delights of microdosing all the lovely strains Mother
Cannabis gives us, indeed. Cheers'.
Did you throw on a mask, like the one on the album cover, to 'enhance' the high?
A perfect post. I know what you mean. I'm reminded of the days of a 1978 acid blotter trip and after returning home with my apartment mate from an all night party and for the *first* time hearing the crickets on Abbey Road, or at a Boston midnight in 1976 smoking what was then some ridiculously kick ass weed and blasting Dark Side of the Moon and briefly entering what seemed to be another universe.
Nice! One time I got really high at a friends house not long after Dark Side of the Moon came out. His dad was rich and had this high end stereo with a super fancy turntable that tracked horizontally along a rod as the disc played. My friend got up and left for a while and I finished listening to the 2nd side by myself. I didn't know that the turntable was fully manual and the needle would not automatically pick itself up and return when it reached the end. So the last song ends on a note that was recorded all the way to the center of the vinyl. I'm not sure how many minutes i listened to that last note repeat over and over again, but thought it was the coolest and most avant garde thing I had every heard. I swore I could hear very subtle distinctions in the note being played. My friend finally came back and said, uh, why didn't you pick up the needle, and I was like, What?!? Ah the good ol days.

truly one of (the last) really great ones standing - even thoug he makes his own stuff with an indentifiably induvidual signature somehow a true follower of pnik floyd an so on...
Pretty much because in SW words, PT was not a band, but a dictatorship where he was in charge.
PT was one of the many, many projects of dictator as well as extremely talented artist Steven Wilson.
Along those lines PF wouldn't be there without an AP and his projects. If you know what I mean

Yessiree great Artist, Steve Wilson
(seems humanity is the demon brought forth by the latest evolutionary cycle and our technology is securing our quick end, or some such...)
WOW is right - He was great

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the days now start to get longer.
And for all you good boys and girls, may Santa bring you more Steven Wilson solo material and a long overdue Porcupine Tree reunion in 2016!
Just saw Steven in Seattle last night. He played this along with several PT songs as well as many from his new CD. I must say I've seen PT and Steven about 6 times and last night's was absolutely the very best PT/Steven Wilson concert I've ever seen. They really gave us their very best. Great show!

I get the notion that he likely is reluctant to cast himself adrift in "the mainstream". There are probably also other reasons why he is not widely known.
Carry on! lol

I don't know how I didn't know this in 2010 but I know a lot of his work now. amazes me how someone so talented doesn't seem to be known in the mainstream.
Wilson is becoming increasingly better known. Peer recognition is in. Mainstream recognition will happen. Resistance is futile.

This is well done.
I must concur. Verily.
Happy Friday!
So I managed to listen to Raven that refused to sing CD on a couple of long drives along the coast and mountains.
And then I got it. And I came to think of it as on par with In Absentia.
Wilson outdid himself with this recent 3rd solo project.
Highly recommended!
I adore this CD and play it obsessively at high volume when driving by myself.
How's the new CD?
Any tips of seeing Wilson in Seattle this April?
The new CD is pretty good - takes a few listens but then it kicks in nicely. Like a huge tapestry of sounds...at first you wonder what he was thinking when they were put together. I love that about him.

I knew there was a reason I was having mixed feelings about liking this song! I really love the vocals and the whole mood, but after learning about Harmony Korine, I'm sort of troubled by it all...
SW named this song Harmony Korine because he thought it was an extraordinarily beautiful and musical name and not from any real love or admiration for the actual person (although knowing how much SW enjoys shock value I'm sure that oxymoron was not lost on him).
He's always been a team irony player.
Like stopping in a lush garden to admire the most breathtakingly beautiful flower you have ever seen in your life and then noticing a dead human hand sticking up from the soil below it.
That's just how he rolls.
Sick cat but I love him.
Drumless! No doubt about it.
Thanks for clearing that up.

I would agree with that, but you failed to include Gavin Harrison and John Bonham in the comparisons. The percussive expression and tightness they bring adds considerably to the overall works. Without these drummers I would have to demote both groups a notch or two.
Drumless! No doubt about it.
Nicely stated! I concur 100%. The word genius comes to mind...

Starting to really love this tune - just moved it to a '9'. Could we hear more from this album? Seems like I've only heard 2 songs from it.
Porcupine Tree is one of my favorite bands.
Hence...
Steven Wilson = Genius
Creative genius (vocals/guitar) behind the band, Porcupine Tree. . .
In what capacity is Hackett contributing? Production or musically, or both for that matter?
Was scrolling down the screen and by God, it really is Porcupine Tree! Well, that explains that.
beautiful posts. Just wonderful. a real gift. thank you Cynaera. For some reason my reply is not referencing your words, but at least the sequencing is right.

I'm laughing... I just read the blurb for this book, and it's SO me... Thank you, drew. I'm in search of it for a reasonable price (limited budget, y'know...)
To add to my other post - the hummers have discovered the now-bloomed hollyhocks in the back yard, as well as some volunteer sunflowers. The birds fight for domination, as if they don't know there's a feeder in the front yard. I love nature, in all her facets. My latest miracle is an Austrian Pine tree, consigned to the "tree graveyard" by the owner of the nursery where I water plants. It's happened before, and I couldn't do anything to stop it - but this time, I did. After the hired help came back from hauling that beautiful pine tree to the "graveyard," he saw my expression and said, "If you know someone who wants it, I'll load it onto a truck for you."
Needless to say, my brother and I jumped at the chance to save a tree that wasn't dead, but would have been, had it been left on that scorching gravel with burning sun, no water, and an exposed root-ball. The tree is now basking in our back-40, in a huge pot (which I have to return, once we figure out what to do with the tree), getting water, nutrients, love, and visitors in the form of birds who want our choke-cherries and are curious enough to check out "the new kid.")
Um, and I still like this song.

And I'm sure Steve loves being the living god-of-mystical-music he thinks he is.
Wow! Another version of Only Women Bleed! That is quite the popular song even though it is never titled that! This one we have Porcupine Tree doing the Alice Cooper classic! Actually, sounds pretty decent.
Isn't Tim Bowness the lead man on that project?

Not really a segue since he talked in between, but still an odd choice after the old-timey blues tune. Nevertheless it's a cool song (especially if you like Radiohead.)
I win!
No. You get to wash the dishes!
I just bumped this to an 8 - eerie and growing on me
Likewise, I went 5 -> 7. Familiarity breeds... pleasure?
sounds much like porcupine tree.
i like it
2nd.

It doesn't sound dissonant at all to me, but we all hear different things. As far as it being factory-like: I do hear a lot of energy.
Only on RP.......................
