Rain, come down, and fall forever
Drain, the dirt, into the wasteland
Pray, for sound, to quiet the howling

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Kneel, to fade, the day's corrosion
Crawl, depart, towards perdition
Gray, the part, the bruise within you

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Forever

Feel, no shame, too brave
Feel, afraid, to wait forever

Segue into this out of the Miles Davis classic "Concierto De Aranjuez"

Only on RP.......................

That cracks me up, as Einaudi is where RP energy always seems to grind to a halt.  People swoon over him in the comments, but it messes with my flow all the time when I'm working and the soft plinky piano music starts going.

Doctor Who reference, I believe. Creepy/great episode.
Gavin Harrison is a standout among the TRIO of drummers in the current incarnation of King Crimson. He's the only one to get a full on drum solo, and it's clear why. Check their recent live stuff.
Steven Wilson... but no one of Wilson's acquaintance (or to my knowledge anyone else of fairly recent vintage) cranks the rhythm section and drives a tune forward like Gavin Harrison on the skins.  And that's him and his signature sound right beside SW, almost like a co-author. Why not double billing? Too complicated, Mr. Label Man? Is this the auteur theory of alt prog rock?
Ten for Gavin Harrison

Did you throw on a mask, like the one on the album cover, to 'enhance' the high?

Nice! One time I got really high at a friends house not long after Dark Side of the Moon came out. His dad was rich and had this high end stereo with a super fancy turntable that tracked horizontally along a rod as the disc played. My friend got up and left for a while and I finished listening to the 2nd side by myself. I didn't know that the turntable was fully manual and the needle would not automatically pick itself up and return when it reached the end. So the last song ends on a note that was recorded all the way to the center of the vinyl. I'm not sure how many minutes i listened to that last note repeat over and over again, but thought it was the coolest and most avant garde thing I had every heard. I swore I could hear very subtle distinctions in the note being played. My friend finally came back and said, uh, why didn't you pick up the needle, and I was like, What?!?  Ah the good ol days.
Wondering if Mr. Wilson saw the recent Harmony Korine film The Beach Bum starring Matthew McConaughey as a Miami stoner.

I too saw him in November, went in to the 3+ hour concert not knowing any of his music. Came out the BIGGEST fan, had to then attempt to digest all his prior work (both solo and Porcupine Tree, not to mention Blackfield) in the past year. A labor of love. Top marks!!!

Yessiree       great Artist, Steve Wilson
(seems humanity is the demon brought forth by the latest evolutionary cycle and our technology is securing our quick end, or some such...)
Awesome.  Just saw him in November in Orlando; he put on an almost 3 hour show.  I would have stayed later to get an autograph, but I had a 2 hour drive home at 1:30am.
He just put out a wonderful Q&A on music streaming and the future/past of getting music heard. Great article, you can find it off his site or Twitter feed.

WOW is right - He was great

Happy Solstice to all the Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree fans!

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the days now start to get longer.

And for all you good boys and girls, may Santa bring you more Steven Wilson solo material and a long overdue Porcupine Tree reunion in 2016!

Just saw Steven in Seattle last night.  He played this along with several PT songs as well as many from his new CD.  I must say I've seen PT and Steven about 6 times and last night's was absolutely the very best PT/Steven Wilson concert I've ever seen.  They really gave us their very best.  Great show!

That made me laugh - thanks for that!

I get the notion that he likely is reluctant to cast himself adrift in "the mainstream".  There are probably also other reasons why he is not widely known.
Just checking my rating. Yes. Still a 10. at least until we go all spinal tap and allow for 11's.

Reminds me so much of the band Spirit! Quite excellent.

Wilson is becoming increasingly better known.  Peer recognition is in.   Mainstream recognition will happen.  Resistance is futile.

So I managed to listen to Raven that refused to sing CD on a couple of long drives along the coast and mountains.

And then I got it.  And I came to think of it as on par with In Absentia.

Wilson outdid himself with this recent 3rd solo project.

SW named this song Harmony Korine because he thought it was an extraordinarily beautiful and musical name and not from any real love or admiration for the actual person (although knowing how much SW enjoys shock value I'm sure that oxymoron was not lost on him).

He's always been a team irony player.

Like stopping in a lush garden to admire the most breathtakingly beautiful flower you have ever seen in your life and then noticing a dead human hand sticking up from the soil below it.

That's just how he rolls.

Sick cat but I love him.

In my opinion, Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree/Blackfield is the modern day equivalent of Robert Plant/Jimmy Page/Zeppelin and the likes of early period progressive rock. One would be hard pressed to find a match (exception: Radio Head or Portishead) for Steven's songwriting depth, larger-than-life guitar expressions, and consistently complex arrangements.

I would agree with that, but you failed to include Gavin Harrison and John Bonham in the comparisons.  The percussive expression and tightness they bring adds considerably to the overall works.  Without these drummers I would have to demote both groups a notch or two.

trippy little nugget
Starts off somewhat Dave Matthews like.
Why do people try to intellectualize music like this? It is what it is, a very simple arrangement that was left to a producer and studio engineer to piece together as a song. If you hear Led Zepplin in this relisten to Led Zepplond 1st album. No ones going to remember this song 42 years fr now like u have recalled LZ.

Starting to really love this tune - just moved it to a '9'. Could we hear more from this album? Seems like I've only heard 2 songs from it.

I love his voice - very unique and his musical sensibility - there is U2-like sense of drama and epic nature to his songs.
Generally not a fan of "prog."

Porcupine Tree is one of my favorite bands.

Hence...

I'm laughing... I just read the blurb for this book, and it's SO me...  Thank you, drew. I'm in search of it for a reasonable price (limited budget, y'know...)

To add to my other post - the hummers have discovered the now-bloomed hollyhocks in the back yard, as well as some volunteer sunflowers. The birds fight for domination, as if they don't know there's a feeder in the front yard. I love nature, in all her facets. My latest miracle is an Austrian Pine tree, consigned to the "tree graveyard" by the owner of the nursery where I water plants. It's happened before, and I couldn't do anything to stop it - but this time, I did. After the hired help came back from hauling that beautiful pine tree to the "graveyard," he saw my expression and said, "If you know someone who wants it, I'll load it onto a truck for you."

Needless to say, my brother and I jumped at the chance to save a tree that wasn't dead, but would have been, had it been left on that scorching gravel with burning sun, no water, and an exposed root-ball.  The tree is now basking in our back-40, in a huge pot (which I have to return, once we figure out what to do with the tree), getting water, nutrients, love, and visitors in the form of birds who want our choke-cherries and are curious enough to check out "the new kid.")

Um, and I still like this song. {#Mrgreen}
