Mali? More like marvelous!
I love the Wikipedia picture of them for some reason. These two look like a good time.
Oh hell yes! Love this stuff. Fun rock'n good tune. 8
The overall tone reminds me of Robert Randolph and the Family Band.  Good stuff!

I can only vaguely translate the lyrics but who cares, cool beat!
F everyone that's complaining about this. It's a work of art. And how many of you can play/sing like this even with working eyes? Jeez.
this kicks ass
"Mariam became blind at age 5 as a consequence of untreated measles."

Always enough money for another aircraft carrier of course. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

This stuff makes RP great, because it's not John Cougar or Tom Petty or the Doors.
Solid 9.
Always find this very cheerful, upbeat music welcome. I still have to go check the page to see who this is.... bad memory on my part.
Having 'traveled on business' in west Africa, and speaking french, knowing A and M songs and being able to sing a few lines was 'helpful'. Thank you RP.
Background::::
Amadou lost his vision at the age of 16, while Mariam became blind at age 5 as a consequence of untreated measles. Known as "the blind couple from Mali", they met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, where they both performed at the Institute’s Eclipse Orchestra, directed by Idrissa Soumaouro, and found they shared an interest in music. Between 1974 and 1980, Amadou played guitar in the West African band Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako.

In 1980 the couple married and by 1983 they began to play together while Amadou continued a successful solo career and ran the blind institute's music programme.

Amadou is a fan of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.[2]
Lots of negative comments on this one. I have no idea what they are saying, but it’s a catchy tune with some tasty guitar. I like it.

Been replaced by the Skip button right between play and the volume bar.
I try not to use it too much. Bill knows best :-)

Awesome tune.
Stevie Wonder and the Doors are boring!
So Bad!  I love RP and the variety but this goes too far off the rails for me.  I feel like I have to suffer through these kinds of songs in order to be rewarded by the songs that sandwiched it (Stevie Wonder-Pastime Paradise and The Doors-Strange Days).  I guess you can't please everyone all the time, right?

Why? This song doesn't say nothing bad I think. I love African sound.
Not as repetitive as some of the their other songs that move me to press PSD.
Good, rockin' sound, and cool vocal variety.

It seems as if they've sold a lot of records in France.  Someone there must like them.

I wouldn't be so strict... the songs are representative of a form of Africa that people might not like but personally I don't mind hearing it once in a while..

Not going to rate it. Just do not like it at this time.

alright amadou and mariam!
This is so amazing!

Why have I not heard of these guys before?

Just bought the CD as I usually do, right through the RP link.  Order complete before the song is over.

Thanks Bill, for turning me on to another great sonic feast!

Like the song a lot, but when I read the lyrics ... well, it's just a little too close to desperation to allow me to like it without restraint.  Sorry, but I can't explain it any better.

You're free to go, the way is clear.
You can move, life is so beautiful.
You're free to go, the way is clear.

You’ve lost your job in this life.
Your wife has gone because of it.
You’ve lost your family in this life.
Eh! Your friends left you because of it.
Life is a lesson.
You can’t stay, you have to move on.
In this life, you have to redeem yourself.

You’re free, the way is clear.
You must carry on, life is so beautiful.

Your marriage is ruined.
Your true love is over.
Your friendship is lost.

You can’t stay, you have to move on.
And redeem yourself.
You’ve lost your job.
Don’t make it worse, or no-one will help you.

Your wife has left you
Don’t enter the maze, no-one is going to help you out.
You’ve lost your family
Don’t make it worse, or no-one will help you.

Go on!
Go, go!

Amadou & Mariam

You’re free, the way is clear.
You can move, life is so beautiful.
You can go, your way is clear.
You can move, life is so beautiful

From yahoo answers...

The expression "Massi téladi" is definitely not French; it is Bamanankan, one of the national languages of Mali; a land-locked sub-Saharan country in West Africa, once a French colony. It would appear looking at the lyrics of the song, by Amadou Bagayoko & Mariam Doumbia, most of which I have been able to translate into English. The phrase ("Massi téladi") in relation to the lyrics, seems to point to the possibility that it could, and this is a stab in the dark because it makes sense because of the relationship, mean "unlucky" - it seems to fit. Unless we have somebody in this community who reads, writes and speaks Bamanankan then we will not get a definitive answer.

Note: The original lyrics were written bi-lingual, part French, part Bamanankan
Sorry - best I can do.

Personal note: I like this CD. {#Wave}

Any idea what the French part of it translates to?

I'm curious - what makes you hate this song? It's a straightforward rock song, albeit in a language that I assume is foreign to you. It's competently played, sung, and produced. I can understand if you don't love it, but I really don't understand the hate.
