I ka fourou douman tiyan na fêmi kosson.

I ka kanou douman tiyana na fêmi kosson.

I ka sindjiya douma tiyana fêmi kosson.
Massi téladi, massi téladi...

and he plays great guitar
I Agree on bout counts! Thanx RP!
Every time I hear this I like it a little bit less.
Learn how to use the "Skip Button". ...problem solved!
Wait, this song just started on the regular MP3 main mix on the website. How did someone get to hear it 20 minutes ago?

I can only vaguely translate the lyrics but who cares, cool beat!
Always enough money for another aircraft carrier of course. We should be ashamed of ourselves.
This stuff makes RP great, because it's not John Cougar or Tom Petty or the Doors.
Solid 9.
Amadou lost his vision at the age of 16, while Mariam became blind at age 5 as a consequence of untreated measles. Known as "the blind couple from Mali", they met at Mali's Institute for the Young Blind, where they both performed at the Institute’s Eclipse Orchestra, directed by Idrissa Soumaouro, and found they shared an interest in music. Between 1974 and 1980, Amadou played guitar in the West African band Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako.
In 1980 the couple married and by 1983 they began to play together while Amadou continued a successful solo career and ran the blind institute's music programme.
Amadou is a fan of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.[2]
where is the PSD button ?
Been replaced by the Skip button right between play and the volume bar.
I try not to use it too much. Bill knows best :-)
Try the PSD ("Play Something Different") button. It's much more satisfying than mute, and easier on your blood pressure than a rant.
where is the PSD button ?
Especially French fries!!!
... You do know french fries aren't French, right?
Stevie Wonder and the Doors are boring!
Somehow I picture James Bond (the Roger Moore version) conveniently escaping his captors.
Especially French fries!!!
but they LOVE Jerry Lewis!
What makes you an expert on french tastes? Where do you live anyway? Facepalm to you! ;-)
Thank you MiguelEI!
I'm French, and I love this song.

Why? This song doesn't say nothing bad I think. I love African sound.
Good, rockin' sound, and cool vocal variety.
It seems as if they've sold a lot of records in France. Someone there must like them.
I wouldn't be so strict... the songs are representative of a form of Africa that people might not like but personally I don't mind hearing it once in a while..
Why have I not heard of these guys before?
Just bought the CD as I usually do, right through the RP link. Order complete before the song is over.
Thanks Bill, for turning me on to another great sonic feast!
You were lucky...
After unsuccesfully doing all of the above, I smashed my PC in frustration, went to the PC store for another one, started all over, finally managed to log in just to say "I completely agree"
thank you
Don't smash the PC... just yank the modem and have a beer... come back when its over... works every time....
I hope the crisis in Mali ends soon.
your name says it all...!!!!

Don't understand the hating on this song — I dig it.

You're free to go, the way is clear.
You can move, life is so beautiful.
You're free to go, the way is clear.
You’ve lost your job in this life.
Your wife has gone because of it.
You’ve lost your family in this life.
Eh! Your friends left you because of it.
Life is a lesson.
You can’t stay, you have to move on.
In this life, you have to redeem yourself.
You’re free, the way is clear.
You must carry on, life is so beautiful.
Your marriage is ruined.
Your true love is over.
Your friendship is lost.
You can’t stay, you have to move on.
And redeem yourself.
You’ve lost your job.
Don’t make it worse, or no-one will help you.
Your wife has left you
Don’t enter the maze, no-one is going to help you out.
You’ve lost your family
Don’t make it worse, or no-one will help you.
Go on!
Go, go!

Same here.
Fact: They are both sight-disabled, and met at a school for the blind.
A song has to be pretty god awful if I drop what I'm doing, go to the website to comment, realize I was not logged in, try and log in and the password doesn't work, have to click "forgot your password?", get the email, re-set the password and, FINALLY log in just to say, "this is one totally crap song".
thank you.

A solid 9. An excellent track.
(How wonderful that RP listeners can co-exist at both ends of the spectrum)

I am so sick of this song
RIGHT ON BROTHER....
NO MORE
WHY ?!!!!!!
I love how the African vocal style is meshed in to the California surf-rock instrumentation. I don't understand a word of it, and I don't care.
We be dancin' here too.
I already rated this a 7. I'm considering if that should be an 8.
From yahoo answers...
The expression "Massi téladi" is definitely not French; it is Bamanankan, one of the national languages of Mali; a land-locked sub-Saharan country in West Africa, once a French colony. It would appear looking at the lyrics of the song, by Amadou Bagayoko & Mariam Doumbia, most of which I have been able to translate into English. The phrase ("Massi téladi") in relation to the lyrics, seems to point to the possibility that it could, and this is a stab in the dark because it makes sense because of the relationship, mean "unlucky" - it seems to fit. Unless we have somebody in this community who reads, writes and speaks Bamanankan then we will not get a definitive answer.
Note: The original lyrics were written bi-lingual, part French, part Bamanankan
Sorry - best I can do.
Personal note: I like this CD.
Any idea what the French part of it translates to?

I'm curious - what makes you hate this song? It's a straightforward rock song, albeit in a language that I assume is foreign to you. It's competently played, sung, and produced. I can understand if you don't love it, but I really don't understand the hate.
yeah Zigi! your right pretty good little Africa Rocker!
Not sure "weak" is the right word, but yeah it's not my favorite cut from the album.
WITHOUT MALI
USA would not be what it is today!
Think about it - American geo/history freaks!
SUPERB cover design!
Don't make it stop, I love this song. Looks like you lose, Asmith.
Thank God I have a mute button!

I had to re-login to rate it, then saw that I already had given it a 1.
Interesting way of choosing...do you pick restaurants the same way? ...or girlfriends?

Me, too. Sometimes I'm just overwhelmed with the need to comment. Most often it is because the song is soo annoying. There are a few of the others.
https://somafm.com/play/suburbsofgoa is pretty asiancentric. Hard to believe there's not an African flavored world music station out there.
This song rocks for me!

But, i still think this is a very fresh sound and i love the way this guy makes his Telecaster sound so bluesy, especially since he is blind!!
To me,
8
Hell, they could just turn the whole station format to world music with a heavy emphasis on Africa and I would be happy!
Lots of negative comments on this one. I have no idea what they are saying, but it’s a catchy tune with some tasty guitar. I like it.
Heck YeaH!! Happy tune with some great vibes... definitely a Friday afternoon blaster!
