dynamite the mountain, now i'm walking up the road
the love we made at gunpoint wasn't love at all
the dancing in the valley, the moons is the mirrored ball
blew open my mind, now it's an empty room
swinging in the hammock, dogs are walking across the roof
i watch you braid your hair, you're from another time
when the earth wasn't so angry
and god was on our side
searching west and east
and all points in-between
underneath the lines of thought
you're there and then you're not
the mayans stole tomorrow, hid it underground
we come with heavy magnets but it still hasn't been found
i'm sweating out my secrets in the temazcal
they're screaming in the calle that there are stars about to fall
looking through the trees
cities and the seas
things we've seen
ovnis on the lawn
they're there and then they're gone
there and then they're gone
searching west and east
all points in between
and underneath the hand of god
you're there and then you're not
My 13-year-old daughter shares my soft spot for MOF,
================================================
With all respect for you, your daughter and both of your tastes!
My grandmother does not share your soft spot for MOF!
She's a rocker!
Mr Stingray, We would expect nothing less from your grandmother!
This is a good thing, btw.
One of my favorite lines ever
Kinda reads like a pseudo-intellectual circle jerk song to me.

My 13-year-old daughter shares my soft spot for MOF, and we both love this alternate version. Thanks for posting the video..
"Poor Mastering" Jesus dude, talk about nit picking, check out the backstory, these four guys went to remote location and recorded played and engineered this whole album by themselves, this is a master work. Jim James, M. Ward, Conner Oberst and Mike Mogis are all brilliant and successful artists in their own right. No one played drums but they learned for this album, no one was an engineer but the did it anyway. This is pure and exquisite music making at it's finest. Monster of Folk are one of very few American Super groups, I can think of The Wilbury's as their only contemporary comparison.
Sorry man, they would have benefited from having a real producer and a real sound engineer on this one, middle-of-nowhere or not. And not having Conor Oberst. Or at least, not letting him sing.
Could you take it with you?

Too Cool
Sure there is, his name is Dylan and Seeger once took an axe to him. The "Frankenstein" symbolism is too rich...you know lightning (electric guitars) peasant mob (Seeger with an axe)....
Very good...
Would you like to ask Bill to select the lousy songs for airplay?
By the way, Temazcal sounds like a type of tequila. Maybe that 'splains it: drunks playing Folk Music.
No.
It was a freaking compliment.
Woo-hoo! Thanks, Byronape I'll check it out (I have a new computer and DSL, so I should be okay.) Happy snorkeling!
Well, what did you think?
Their ACL appearance was so good that it makes the album come off as kinda boring.

Here ya go! Watch it free through the magic of the internet. I just hope you have a decent internet connection, because it's worth watching full screen and the video is pretty rough quality on a slow connection.

I LOVE "Austin City Limits," but it's usually on PBS long after I'm conked out for the night. Nope, no VCR, no Tivo. We live a very simple life here in the land of the freak and the home of the depraved. I'll try to check out more of their stuff, based on your rec. I know they played in Portland, Oregon not too long ago, and were very warmly-received... Wish I could have been there.

I bought the CD. As usual, RP picked the only good songs from the CD. So, I have to retract my request.
That is my experience with many artists too, RP picks the good cuts.
This song is quite sonic, wonderful depth in the recording...
I PRETTY MUCH DISLIKE THIS MUSIC!

I think the Japanese term is Mimi Unagi, and there is a band by that name, sort of a punk rock Japanese street performer kind of thing. Musical style quite a bit different than Monsters of Folk...
I don't know much Japanese, but I do know "Unagi" means "eel", at least in a sushi context . So maybe it's an ear eel. Like an ear worm except slimier, possibly electrified.
Oh, the song? Don't much care for it, or for a group that calls themselves Monsters of Folk.
I thought this vocalist might be inspired by Oberst, but there wasn't enough vocal tremor to actually be him. I'm glad to be proven wrong, as I prefer this calmer version too.
The Italians have a nice word for such earworms: 'ritornello'. I can't see this one sticking in my brain as it's so feckin' DULL - aural Mogadon. A nailed-on Ho-Hum from the narcoleptic Nottingham jury sinking into a coma...
Yep. I like lots of types of music and variations within these types, but this just sits there and moulders. If this were a drug it could be called a somnifacient.

you come out in the mood of this song!!!!
"you're there and then you're gone". unlike music!

Agree!
I PRETTY MUCH DISLIKE THIS MUSIC!
...is it really a guy singing?
God I hope so or that would be one horrible sounding woman that should be checked for steroids!
BTW, I believe it is actually Bright Eyes Mike Mogis on the lead vocals on this one and I am pretty sure no one has mistakened him for a woman before.
...is it really a guy singing?
Ah, so this is Conor from Conor Oberst, thought i recognized the voice...
This is nice indeed!

I second that, sublime is the only adjective for that song.
I agree....the entire album is fantastic! These guys are really great together.
Actually, I am just going to upload the whole damn, album, just a masterpiece! Ahead of the Curve is next!
