In a discotheque at dawn
Is when it came to me
I'd been ravin' through the night
Lookin' for some company

It was the Mambo talkin'
It's got a lot to say
Do you come here often?
Do you wanna play?

The hitchhike into Paris
And zigzag by the Seine
The Hollywood moment
I'll never be the same

(You can dance)
There's a world awaiting
Way beyond the sea
How I love to travel
Baby, will you come with me?

(You can dance)
Jump on the table
Slide down the pole
You can wear your sable
And you can bare your soul

Through Reno down to Vegas
The casinos never close
To the movers and the shakers
The Tango never knows

You can dance, you can dance
You can dance, you can dance

To the morning city
That's where I kept my shoe
I need some inspiration
I've got a lot of time to lose

You can dance
From [Incomprehensible]
And then the dolce vita
I find my beauty queen

In England there's a moment
One nation in a groove
Where the music and emotion
Will make you wanna move

(You can dance)
Take me to the river try singing in the rain
(You can dance)
I like the jungle fever, it's got me in the mood again

(You can dance)
Oh Tutti Frutti, Jones Bar Hollywood
(You can dance)
I like Campari soda, I'd can can if I could
(You can dance)

You can dance, you can dance
You can dance, you can dance
You can dance, you can dance
You can dance

GOOD TUNE! First time that I have heard it. That is why we come here.  Thanx RP!
I see all the commenters here who see Ferry as sleazy. Is it the faux lounge lizard act being extrapolated?  Would people have said the same in 72 before he began doing that? He comes across in interviews as fairly shy and kind of reserved, hardly a  sleaze.

I could see Rod Stewart being sleazy. Prince. Tom Jones. Not that I care.

He gave my mum the raging creeps, just seeing him pop up on telly sent her into physical convulsions of disgust.

So it's not universal. :)
Brian Ferry. God's gift to women. Yeah, you know it.
Thought it was Roxy Music. To me that's Bryan Ferry at his best.
Great album! Listen to "Avonmore" also!

You are of course correct fred.   In fact, there are these pesky Nordic societies that pride themselves on being egalitarian and cooperative.

They also blow the 'zero-sum capitalism' USA out of the water on socio-economic achievements.

Those pesky Nordic societies have:

1.       Homogenous cultures

2.       Low ethnic diversity

3.       Broad moral basis in Lutheranism

4.       Small population

5.       Low population density

6.       Lots of natural resources

“Zero Sum Capitalism” is a silly slogan

The USA has:

1.       Heterogenous culture

2.       High ethnic diversity

3.       Many divergent sources of moral basis

4.       Large population

5.       High urban concentrations

6.       Fewer natural resources per capita

Only one of those pesky Nordic countries ranks higher than the USA in per capita GDP.

Although it is hard and expensive, I much prefer a highly diverse culture.

If Ferry's personal life in that sense is "sleazy", then the whole basis for human relationships is sleazy. It's the way relationships between the two sexes have been since humans began, basically sex/reproduction for money/"security"/being a provider. It's the same in the natural world among other animals. Look around you.

If you imagine your marriage or S.O. arrangement to be much different or didn't at least begin that way, then you're deluding yourself.

My example of animal behavior is only to point out that we too are animals, primates specifically, and to a large extent we function from instinct and hard-wired survival behavior just as lower forms do. It doesn't mean we "think like an animal and behave like one" just in a negative sense (though sometimes we do). That we have intellect to choose to sometimes deviate from those instincts or to achieve more is a different matter.

Yeah "mutual aid"...for societies as a whole, which doesn't say much about the specific male/female relationship except in a vague sense. You can label it "cynical" or "Hobbesian" or whatever you'd like, but I think most adults with any experience in the world know how it works in real life.
Restores faith in my sense of gravity. Was concerned for a moment there.

Co-written by Dave Stewart. Bass played by Flea. The lovely guitar is not credited, so it's possibly samples by Robin Rimbaud or Dave Stewart.

Uncanny!  A Bryan Ferry song I don't hate! Amazing. Only on RP.

Whew, I was beginning to think that I was brain was calcifying and turning me into a total fuddy-duddy. One Beth Orton followed by one David Bowie - I dislike both. Thank heavens I can enjoy B Ferry. Perhaps all is not lost.

The Crown Vic has never won many style points, but the cop versions are pretty powerful.

As for Bryan and fredriley's take on his...sleaze factor? I could do without consistently quavery angst but haven't listened to this song's lyrics closely enough to comment. Spitting Image had a great puppet parody of Bryan (apparently I mentioned that about 4.5 years ago):

Catchy tune.  I've always liked BF and Roxy Music, but reading the lyrics, it seems to me that it is a tale of a middle aged man either 1) pining for his younger partying years or 2) having a mid-life crisis and going out and partying like a 20 year old.

Excellent tune - this album was much better than I had anticipated.  Must own if you are BF fan.
Very appropriate somehow, this right after Bowie's Ashes To Ashes. Can't say why though, it's not the lyrics. Maybe sonically.
Always been a big fan.  Love this song, but haven't listened to the full album...
Love it.  Never disappoints.
Quite like this more every time I crank it...nice surprise and cool comeback for him!

At least this is a little more up-tempo than most of that easy-listening, "champagne" music that Ferry's been soaking in since the 1980s.

It's not so much that he can't sing, it's just not much of a melody. The groove is 100% Avalon-era - we've heard that synth before. The intensity is gorgeous. It's almost like this is a recorded jam session.

Old song made new....not convinced this works very well for me.
And then, there is Ferry....
Good tune.  I've always been a Bryan Ferry fan - the quintessential techno-crooner. I like the old Roxy days .  This album cover is sort of an homage to the Roxy original, IIRC.  And then there's Eno and Manzanera.  Wow.
Check out his performance on Later with Jools .... like the hypnotic guitar

Perfect song!
This video came on in a bar I was in the other night. I had the hardest time convincing people that it was new Bryan Ferry...I enjoy anything he sings, even a grocery list...
Personally, I think this song sucks. I think that because I can't help comparing it to True To Life, which is where he got a lot of the music for this song from. It was his song (along with Roxy Music's), but Jesus, Bryan, be original. What's the point exactly of 'writing' and recording a 'new' song if a very large portion of it is simply a recording of something that you did twenty-nine years ago? Extremely disappointing. I expected better.

Talking through a reverb is not singing.
This is one of the best songs in a long time. Also a great video to go with it.
It's funny reading the complaints about it being played too much. When I first got the album last fall that's exactly what I did, at the risk of burning out on it. I've since put my collection of Roxy Music albums in heavy rotation. Hoping the new Roxy Music tour makes it to the U.S.

Too much Byran Ferry! No mas! Por favor!
{#Frustrated}
Time to pull this new nugget out of heavy rotation. kthnxbai
Dear Bryan,

You've been away too long. Nice to have you back.

Decent BF.
SURPRISINGLY FRESH!!!

GOOD, BRIAN!
I'm really liking the new Bryan Ferry music.  This song in particular just compels me to drift into an exotic location and soak up the atmosphere with my eyes closed.  Lovely imagery, and the music itself is really exceptional, too.  8, with potential.... {#Meditate}{#Sunny}
Good song but this has been played a lot lately.  There are so many good Bryan Ferry(or Roxy Music) songs to choose from though.  Please put this aside for a while and play another of his songs.

That opening synth riff made me turn around thinking ' True to Life' but just a tad different.

Who could blame him for attempting to reproduce an almost 30-year classic, Roxy Music's Avalon, a great album.  You go BF!  I loved it - 9
