You, how did you get so wise?
I take the advice I find in your eyes.
Me, I've been waiting outside
Most of my life,
Oh like a rare B-side.

I'm just making you mixtapes with homemade covers.
Analog to show we're lovers,
And here under the jacket folds inside,
I've taped my heart for you to find.

To find the perfect way,
Which album to say,
I la la love you.
With this plastic cassette,
It's not finished yet,
It's gonna tell you slowly.

I'm just making you mixtapes with homemade covers.
Strings and drawings show we're lovers,
When you're driving around in the summertime,
To hear again, just press rewind.

Rewind, the world comes to an end,
Turns over again,
Another 1000 times.
But me, I'll be the same.
No, I never change,
Oh, like a rare B-side.

I'll be making you mixtapes with homemade covers.
Analog to show we're lovers,
So much rock and roll love in a plastic case,
Play it loudly, see my face.
I'm just making you mixtapes with homemade covers,
[[Mazzy Star]], [[Donovan|Donovan's]] "[[Donovan:Colours|Colours]]"
Just an audio love letter painted blue,
I spent all day making for you

this is getting to be rather annoying...
I'm not sure about this one. It sounds rather Alanis Morissette-ish to me.
Wow, look at that!  Here we have a professional member of the recording industry endorsing the piracy of copyrighted material!  Refreshing!

In ten years time, maybe even just five, young folk will be wondering wtf is a "mixtape". How quickly, historically, something so cutting-edge as cassette tapes were becomes a historical curiousity. These days it's all compilation CDs courtesy of iTunes, but that'll be obsolete soon enough, I'm sure.

1980-1990s = mixtape. 2000+ = playlist.  Same thing, different terminology.  And current technology makes it soooo much easier to put together and playlist.  I think the availability of a wider range of music and the ease of which songs can be put on and off lists will take away from the art of making a thoughtful and meaningful mixtape/playlist.

One of my FAVOURITE things to do in the 90s was to discover new songs by recording (as many hours as a cassette tape would hold) each night of the CBC's late night "alternative" radio show Brave New Waves, identify the best songs of the previous night by re-listening to it on the drive to work, and then later when I got home, painstakingly extract songs from one tape to another on my dual tape deck, and compile them into custom mixed tapes. Each mixed tape was completed with a hand-lettered track listing and a lovingly crafted cover consisting of original artwork or a cool collage (mostly of space photographs derived from my dad's telescope magazines.) The best mixed tapes and most awesome covers went to the guys I loved, of course :)

I was just over at my ex's looking through some of the ones I made for him in the mid-late 90s. Such cool and interesting time capsules.

However did I manage to have so much spare time?

Hey, I'm your age and it caught ME  off guard.
I had to think back for a moment.

"Dated"?  I guess everyone has some sound or recording effect that annoys them.  Remind your producer to leave that effect off of your next album.

I don't really like how the song sounds, but I love the reference of making mixed tapes with home made covers and audio love letters.

Very well said. My sentiments exactly.

I was just thinking how outdated the technological reference was. Hey, that's a minor issue—a great song about young love.
I've been a fan of her work since she put out her first CD.
haven't tried it.   is it good reply please {#Ask}

Only getting better... {#Clap}

There is a message there for you.  Maybe you are supposed to hear it.

(edit: y-magoo had a better answer!)

Linguistically, it makes sense to me - the concept of a "mixtape" is perhaps now divorced from its underlying medium.

Similarly, I might "tape" a TV show even though I'm using DVR software running on my desktop computer. A much older example is "ship": it's a verbed noun (the underlying noun has a proto-Germanic roots, the verb has been around for centuries), but we still use it even if we're not sending packages on a literal ship.
{#Curtain}  Bill makes Mixtapes for us all.  {#Bounce}  Thank you Bill and Rebecca, Merry Christmas too!  {#Cheers}
I really liked the mix of the one guitar chord on the break.

I believe that's the point... "lost art" perhaps?

Oddly disco-y.

Any song that name checks Mazzy Star is awarded one bonus point.
A long overdue addition to RP. Love this song.

Tift Merritt on RP? Anything is possible now. Caught her at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Yeah, Eurotypes, this is what some "country" music sounds like these days. Confusion reigns.

Very nice song. Finally something other than overplayed Neil Young.
For what it's worth, this song has been getting heavy rotation on the Spectrum channel at Sirius/XM. Really enjoyed it there. Hopefully, people will welcome it here.
