I know your heart
It is a sacred thing
You're a comedian
You hide behind your funny face

Every time...

Out of the shadows
Out of the cameras and the lights
You're a chameleon
And you hide behind your darker side

Every time...
Every time I don't need a punch line
I don't need a punch line

Everybody's watching
The way that I see you could not change
I'll be your medium
For everything you wanted to say

Cause out of the shadows
Out of the cameras and the lights
I'm a chameleon
I just hide behind the songs that I write

See me smile
It's not for a funny joke
It's for every time I don't need...
I don't need a punch line
Every time I don't need a punch line

See me smile
It's not for a funny joke
It's for every time I don't need a punch line

I want to expand my musical horizons not shrink them!   I want to be exposed to music I do not like.

   Cheers to that!
Always love hearing this, and anything from this album.

Unfortunate the process of doing it basically drove her to retirement but hopefully it's true she's getting back out there. If not, I have to try to stop by her cafe next time I'm near Ottawa.

Everyone has an opinion. I happen to think KE is a damn fine artist. Sorry she's hung up the guitar. For those who don't like any particular song, not just this one, why not just press PSD and move on to something else. Maybe you think there isn't enough negativity in the world already? Great album, btw.

I agree that she is a fine artist.  BTW, she is back to playing and performing.  I sure hope she makes it to backwater interior British California.

As for the flow of negative comments.... it helps people with the illusion that they are independent and free and that their opinions matter.

I agree with Baaah Hahbur, good song, shades of Cranberries.

Painfully redundant.  Repetitive.  Painful.
Did I say painful?
hey, there's my other mitten

I love this song. It got me through a rough patch with the mrs. my jokes were really not funny for her I realized - so I scaled back and now she's laughing again.

Facing the same dilemma, after 45 years, there are not many warts, wens and ways that are not known and either accepted or despised.

Fortunately, the future looks good. Just like Chrissie.
I wonder how Kathleen's coffee shop in Kanata is doing?

Kanata is 30 minutes west of Ottawa, Canada's capital, found in southeastern Ontario along the border with Quebec.  Sorry for the extra information, but you would be surprised at the number of Americans that do not know what Canada's federal capital is and where it is located.

Love her old stuff.  This was just okay.  She lost her edge.

PSD.  I usually like KE, but this one...well she missed, imo.
Bleh.......
Sad.  So many words in the English language.
Pitiful to repeat, repeat, repeat . . .

The tune is OK, but not nearly strong enough to carry the grade school lyrics.
10, next
just so refreshing to hear real singing as opposed to that shrieking we hear on tv.

You hit on it, thanks. No need to repeat.

Huh, they just played this on CBC Canada, the live version from this weekend's concert. The live version had a more 'open' quality to it.

I'll admit I've been away from Canada for a while but is "CBC Canada" a show on the CBC or is that just a really redundant statement? Seriously, just asking...I've been away for a while. Oh, and BTW Westlope, I quite like this song.

OK, time to go listen to Voyageur again (for the many-ith time).

Have to order this CD....

The writing, the production, it is all top notch.

She really does have a lovely voice... 8 > 9 methinks...
The more I hear this lady, the more I like her.

I remember my first joke.

I just saw Kathleen perform at the xponential festival in Camden over the weekend. She was fabulous, witty, and very entertaining. Great live performance.

You missed a great show.  Saw her in Portland last week, just before she headed up your way.  She was outstanding.

Good to hear and am glad that you enjoyed the show!

I still recall with amusement that embarrassed school boy look on David Letterman when he thanked Kathleen and the band a few months ago.

You are kidding.  Been working with a chain-saw for too long?

A consistent feature of her recordings is the high standard she sets for the musical accompaniment. Everything sounds really sharp and complements her voice really well. Not everyone manages to do this with regularity.

Yup.  Unibroue Maudite.

For those unfamiliar with this beer, it has a nutty flavour, 8% alcohol content, is just ever so slightly sweet, and is a great sipping beer.

(You want to get hammered, drink something else.)  I prefer Maudite to most Belgian beers.  Just sayin'.

Very nice.

Edwards will have a tough time surpassing the 3rd CD Asking for Flowers.

How is the rest of Voyageurs?

What is this from outside of a Unibourne Maudite label?

Oh and the song is nice - 6 or 7 for now.

The album has leaked. It has 4 very good songs, the rest is average IMO.

Edwards is divorced. She is dating Justin Vernon of Bon Iver (he produced the album).

+1 !
The original release date is 01/17/2012, has Kathleen released another song or is the album out early?
Anyway, this song's amazing too, just like "Change The Sheets"! This will be an album worth buying!!

Huh???
Her strength, for me, is the lyrics. Such a writer of rich, deep, direct conversations of life.
new Kathleen Edwards! you just made my day!

Katie: Come back to your home here in Ottawa! We need you.

Beautiful! The music produced by this artist and musicians that accompany it is fairly consistent, and has evolved and improvised, with imagination and ingenuity, on every album made to date. What about the future? "The future is not written". We shall see. Work, inspiration and good luck Kathleen.

Her voice is simultaneously heavenly and sad - a captivating combination.

I love her other work. Upon first listen, this sounds weak in comparison.
I love her voice.  It's so interesting.
