Looking down on empty streets all she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams all made real
All of the building, all of those cars
Were once just a dream
In somebody's head
She pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam
She pictures a soul
With no leak at the steam
Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness
Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness come
Nowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey
Nowhere in the suburbs
In the cold light of day
There in the midst of it so alive and alone
Words support like bone
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Wear your inside out
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Swear they move that sign
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms
Pulling out the papers from drawers that slide smooth
Tugging at the darkness, word upon word
Confessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box
To the priest, he's the doctor
He can handle the shocks
Dreaming of the tenderness, the tremble in the hips
Of kissing Mary's lips
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Wear your inside out
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Swear they move that sign
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms

why not play Elbow magnificent cover?

I think 7 is too low, I gave it an 8, but might change it to 9. As for the haters, if you're looking for music that isn't the least bit challenging RP might not be the place for you. The War on Drugs might be able to think of a place where you can go.
Lots of Haters for this one... how unexpected. So few listeners seem able to accept anything but the originals.
is this the best cover of this? Far from it - I'd offer Elbow's version for that. But it's interesting -and quite listenable. I give it an 7 for being willing to be different.

Love Fever Ray, and love the original. Hadn't ever heard this cover before now, but absolutely adore it. :-)
Yeah, not particularly original, but the original's been so overplayed that anything new is welcomed.

There are a few more songs I have ranked a sucko-barfo 1, but not many... this song is definitely one of them... I love a lot of songs by Fever Ray, but Karin Dreijer Andersson may as well have mercilessly chopped the original version up with a chainsaw... that's what it sounds like... run for the hills!
...first song he's said what's less than a10 - for as many comment's as I've read...

I always have an open mind when it comes to cover versions, but this one just sucks.

Nobody in your former hotel room loves this? Can't say I blame them.

I prefer Iain Matthews cover version, and let's not even talk about how much more I prefer the original.
Yep. I must agree with the general tone of the comments here. This one pales in comparison to the original.

This is almost painful to listen to. Not that I could do any better, but I'm not paid to make music.

Former Romeo, I fully agree!
The wayshe pronounces "kissing Mary's lips" really made me make a run for it. Godawful.
Ahhhh!!!! Run for the hills!!!!

I think if you are going to do a cover of song, make it your own. Don't make it a half and half-still hold to theirs but add a little something. Make it entirely your own version. This sounds like Peter Gabriel's song with added electronics and a more upbeat tempo. And maybe that is all they intended, but I just feel they left it short. They were on their way to a really great song. Manfred Man took "Blinded by the light" by Bruce Springsteen and made it their own. Some may not like what they did, but they made it their own... so to speak.
Kinda tedious.
stop right now! you are ruining this song!

Interesting. I'd thought that the eponymous Fever Ray album was to be a one-off, so I'm pleasantly surprised to see a second album was released. Not a great cover, this, but it's ok. I look forward to RP playing other tracks off this album.
Nice song, but incredible boring coverversion :(
...oh, this is cool to hear...
This is what happens when you are nice to Fever Ray. Beware and don't let P.G.'s fate be yours.
The animals/people on the album cover look very... odd

Say what they want about this cover, she's a fantastic artist!
Who is the singer? I've heard her on a few Royksopp tracks too, interesting voice. Ahh 2 sec's googling revels all; Karin Dreijer Andersson. She looks as mad as she sounds. Excellent.

Doesn't work for me either. I think she should've gone further with the modifications. Like this I can still hear the original underneath it, and the alterations make me cringe. I could, though, go for a version way more different; inspired from the original, but clearly different.
Blasphemy. But not too bad.
I really prefer the orignal.. I can hear the sea in this version

I like the loping rhythm and faster pace and her techno-trance voice. The original became a bit weepy after a while until I read what the song was about. Disturbing...I don't think Fever Ray's style fits Peter Gabriel's intent, but it's still interesting.
Holy wow do I like this!

Dear Fever Ray. No.

Oh, seriously, get over it. It's not the original (which I do prefer) but it's not Satanic. It's not my preference but I wouldn't damn it, it's just different. And on some days, in some mindsets, it's pretty darn good.

Cool! Like it :) For some crazy reason I'm fond of her voice.

Great holy smoking doggies! She sounds like Satan singing! Ahhhh! I never imagined she could sound soooo bad! This cover is evil!!!!
So, not good for the external auditory meatus then, Romeo? ;-)
It's not the greatest cover I've ever heard, for sure, and I'm a fan of Fever Ray. Hers and Gabriel's styles are perhaps too mismatching for this to ever work, but kudos to her for giving it a bash.

Agreed. Why mess with perfection? Especially when the attempt is lame.
Had I never heard Peter Gabriel, I might say "Interesting. I like it."
However, it pales so much in comparison that it just doesn't seem worth the effort of making a recording. It lacks the passion and pain of the original. I can't believe that these musicians are really "looking for Mercy Street". More like "vacantly staring into space, stoned out of our gourd, staggering down Mercy Street".

I seem to be in the minority, but I think this is a creepy cover of this song. Original SO much better.
I always like to hear a cover of a song, to find out how else it might be interpreted. Doesn't mean I LIKE the cover, e.g. this one.

Not working for me. I think I need to hear PG
Holy wow do I like this!
Great song! Not this rendition!
I like the arrangement but the fuzzy vocals wear thin very fast. Sound like they are in a hole with a bad connection.
Just not sure what I think of this, just yet. It's not bad, really....quite good if I'm honest....will rate it later.
No listener comments on this song yet.
Why not be the first?
Okay, why not.Why not be the first?
EDIT: Darn!
Never heard this version before, always liked this song. Nice twist...
