Beth's great on this, but love it for the beautiful laid back feel of everyone playing / singing on the track . . .  and then that organ solo - pretty close to perfection me thinks!

Do like that organ.
so beautiful
nice song, greetings from the netherlands

Sugaring Season? Okay, here's a question for you: What's the difference between a maple syrup maker in Vermont and one in New Hampshire?

The Vermonter goes out to gather the sap, opens the lid to the bucket on the tree, finds a dead squirrel in the sap, looks around to see if no one is looking, removes the dead squirrel then collects the sap.

The New Hampshire maple syrup maker goes out to gather the sap, opens the lid to the bucket on the tree, finds a dead squirrel in the sap, looks around to see if no one is looking, rings out the dead squirrel into the bucket then collects the sap.

Thanks to my friends in New England for that one!

I resemble that remark.  From a  long line of "yankee cheapskates" comes the story about the old farmer known to be such a tight ass he'd never leave a s*it in someone else's outhouse.

That would be interesting to hear Beth Orton cover that JJ Cale song.

She really has a lovely voice and the song itself is delightful.
NICE!

She embarks on a 2023 UK and US tour soon so get your tickets. I got mine already:  https://bethortonofficial.com/...

can’t hear enough of it.
Makes me wonder...

What if she goes more electric with her songs. Can she play more RnR?

Just don't call her late for dinner

Skynyrd's version is better known, but yeah, Mr. Cale wrote and performed it.
I like every version, and Ms. Orton's spin too.
c.

Such a nice song...

And after this I'd like to hear Skynyrd's Breeze. Just for comparison's sake.

yes, i liked that one quite a lot by both groups/artists; possibly the only reason I bought the LS album, honestly don't remember!

this kicks ass!!!

I'm trying to imagine her singing with the Skynyrds!
this is a nice little song

Taht'll be the J.J. Cale song that Skynyrd covered... No explanation needed for owning Skynyrd albums - or J.J for that matter. Good taste needs no further comment

Love Poi Dog!!!

That strolling bass thingy, going up and down the scale, reminds me of something by early T-Rex...  "Debora", I think.

Beth can write even better than sing if that's possible.
To follow this with Sugarbush Cushman from Poi Dog Pondering would be rather interesting.
For reasons I cannot even start to quantify, hearing this track just now I felt compelled to up my rating from 7 to 8.  Call me a leaf  on the wind!
... so .... this isn't a cover of the Lynrd Skynyrd hit?
Prolic with JJ it's not what, but how
 Skydog wrote:

Yeah, he needed a lot of different song titles to go with the three different songs he wrote.
I prefer JJ Cale's song of the same title.
Light as a breeze. ❤
I really like this. There's something irresistible about her voice. Perhaps a tad helplessness too... Saved by the bell - no, by precision percussion and bass.

Yes I agree with what some others are saying - it does have a retro Joni Mitchell vibe about it but that's OK with me.
doesn't this song remind you Eclipse from Pink Floyd?

Hello mrs. Beth Orton.!
I'm wondering that someone made such a song in 2012. Kinda retro?
In 1960s, this could be a hit, IMHO... :-)

Sorry, turned left at the last light.
Repetitive song, played repetitively. Time to give it a rest.

Agree with the position, but the two ahead of her are Grace Slick and Elizabeth Fraser :)

JJ cale used to be called the Breeze as well, must be a nice thing to be.
Why do I like this so friggin' much ?

Maybe because how hard I work out my amp when it comes on ?

Good, I like. Vocal reminds me of the Everly Bros (what can I say, I'm very old) and keyboards reminiscent of Garth Hudson. Cool

There's joy in repetition.
Yeah, it's catchy, but I like it.

I think it was worth waiting six years for this new album "Sugaring Season" by English singer-songwriter Beth Orton, 42 years old, who comes back at full strength, Beth treats the music with respect, well constructed songs, interesting point of view aesthetic and melodic, and to culminate in beauty, songs in which Beth puts her voice and all its understated charm. The result is beautiful.

Beth Orton has a particular and mysterious charm in his voice, not always easy noticeable at first contact with the artist, so maybe it is not uniformly recognized by audiences. I particularly like the singers who interpret so raw and direct, and as far as we can see in their studio albums, and onstage, Beth does not condone the modification forced post-production by software or hardware (i.e.audio-shop ), often used in songbirds pop-commercial.....

Well calypsus 1 mentioned her in the masculine gender. Maybe it is Lynyrd.

It is supposed to be boring just like the breeze.

Sugaring season started today. The trees are tapped, buckets are hung and we're ready for the sap to flow!
Oh my, this is simply lovely!

Hey!  This ain't Skynryd!   {#Wink}
Very catchy.  Gave it a 6.

Saw the title, thought it was a cover of Cale/Skynyrd.  Still good, though.

Can't get enough of this song.  I think this can pass the test of time.

This is the only upbeat song on her new album, which is really good but potentially depressing overall. The duet vocals are also atypical. This song made my 2012 Tana's Picks mix - the only female. I've been really enjoying listening to Call Me the Breeze over and over.

It's a nice song and I usually like Beth Orton, but unfortunately, there's some quality in her voice on this track that reminds me of an old biddy singing in church.  And the (Hammond?) organ doesn't help!

I didn't understand a single mumble of what she said, but at least it sounded a little pretty.
Lifeless.
You're the breeze...

Sounds great at high sound pressure levels !!!!!

Same thought! Her voice is usually not all the pleasant for me.
I am not listening of course but is this a Lynrd Skynrd cover?

Somebody call me a cab.
Nice

Had to walk out of her concert in Somerville MA last week — she has destroyed her voice by smoking cigarettes for decades. very sad.

I was hoping it would be a cover of the JJ Cale classic.

Just went to an 8 imho.

Like it already
