This woman.... Her voice and, other talents.... Saw only one video... Don't even recall what song but, it was like, a "real life skit" sort of thing... Where she sang and, stepped/danced to the others in video... Done outdoors....Seems to be a really positive, upbeat type of woman! The video was something that "puts a reality" on the artist! So cool! What a thrill it would be to actually meet her! Even seeing a show would be pretty damn great! 🥰

My understanding is the original version of this song was done by someone with some personal issues or problems or something. Playing this a lot now may have be a result? The driveing toe -tapping pluckiness of that version still has its allure to me, but this somber, haunting version does seem to fit the words now that I've seen the translation.

I cannot find it today but many years ago before Noir Desir, I heard a Russian protest song possibly by Vladimir Vysotsky that sounded very similar. Maybe Bertrand Cantat borrowed parts of it. I will have to find and run some music plagiarism software on it.

Upon reading thru comments, seems about 50/50 on Sophie's version vs the original. So, I did as suggested, and went to YT music, and punched in the original band. Their version is ok. But, sorry for dissention but, Sophie put one helluva effort into her version, and it comes out far more soulful and heartfelt. IMO, her version stands far larger than the original.

Now, this is a cover! She brings her own style, her own magic to the song. It doesn't diminish the original, but gives it a whole other dimension. I never understand when professional musicians cover to sound like the original, but Sophie certainly doesn't do that!

what a dumb comment... you must be one of those who suddenly hear no genius in Michael Jackson's music since the accusation of pedophilia. It's sad not to be able to make a difference between the singer and the man, neither Bertrand Cantat nor Michael Jackson are promoting bad behaviours in their songs. Criticise Hitler for his writing and lack of literary skills in addition to his disgusting ideas but leave singers with talent sing.

A good cover, though I much prefer the original by Noir Desir. Still, the 7 1/2 average score sounds about right.
