It was early in the morning,
we were sitting on the stoop,
there wheeled away a starling
and I thought that I would too.
Oh for all I knew,
I was lost through and through,
in my high heels and my old dress
with my new keys in the wrong city.
I tie the knots to remember in my heart,
so I choke and I sputter to a stop,
I am a borrower and lender of the lot.
I walk away asleep
and chalk an outline round the scene.
This shadow play of whiskey talk,
a heavy denier dream.
Oh let it be, I was lost in him and me.
In my high heels and my old dress
with my new keys in the wrong city.
I tie the knots to remember in my heart,
so I choke and I sputter to a stop,
I am a borrower and lender of the lot.

Very nice! I'm hear more similarity to Katie Tunstall on this particular piece. Thanks for introducing me to Lisa Hannigan.

If I've got the correct song here, direct rip-off of the style of Sinead O'Connor/Dolores O'Riordan types, only instead of doing that little thing with their voice (like going from singing to howling at the moon) just occasionally, doing it to freakin' excess. I guess she heard it and thought it was cool so she thought 'I'll copy that but do it way more so everyone will think it's even cooler" when it actually wasn't that cool to begin with.

Great video; makes the song much more "interesting"! I liked the guy at the very end: "OK, Take 2." Funny!
Something creepy about the video. Like she's getting attacked.

Yeah, all those Irish women sing the same way (especially if you're not paying attention).

Excellent timing…just this afternoon I was curating my tunes and ran across this album, which I remember liking. There are a few other cuts from it that I added to my favorites playlist: "Paper House" and "Nowhere To Go," plus a few from her Sea Sew album, my favorite being "Little." Another great find thanks to Radio Paradise! Thanks Bill & Rebecca!

Do you write this on every song by women? You wrote the same thing on Daughter - Still.
Another pathetic whining woman? Surprise surprise surprise RP?
Beginning to think this station is only geared for a woman's mid life crisis?

So THIS is who Ellie Goulding is trying to imitate!
She takes me straight to Ireland. Damn I miss those days!
Great song! The video is quite colorful as well. =)
I find her voice and vocal agility quite refreshing though not as out there as Elsiane.
In addition she has the gall to sing in an Irish accent, shocking.

Irish gal! Reminds me of Innocence Mission, Over the Rhine, Sixpence None the Richer; seems to elicit many nice resonances that linger.
Horribly annoying vocal affectations.

Yes, well spotted. This is fun. Nice segue from Ray Wylie Hubbard's cover of "Coochy Coochy"; they have a similar rhythm section.
Reminds me the ditty bops a little bit. Nice.
