Call it what you will what you like
but it's still the same thing
You can take what you need
but you can't believe it will remain
People say the same thing
Oh!
Paint your faith on your wall
eventually you'll watch it fall
The things we build don't last as long
Let it be, little one, leave it there
let it rise up from the ground
Listen close, little one, things that grow
have a common gentle sound
that will remain the same thing
Oh!
In a crowded house filled with things
no one sees no one needs
has no sound of growing things
So call it what you will what you like
but it's still the same thing
You can take what you need
but you can't believe it will remain
People say the same thing
but it's still the same thing
You can take what you need

Very, very, nice - music.
They are so fun - I love seeing them live around Oregon! We are so lucky!
This is a fantastic song, but it's not really a "Let's play this every single day" kind of song.

I beg to differ, good sir. Pretty sure what you're hearing is a musical saw. Basically a long steel saw held between the knees, bent and played with a violin bow:

For this version, we’re just going to make it work with one hand and the BBC Microbit
You will need…
A BBC microbit & battery holder (optional)
A pair of headphones, or a speaker (you can’t use a Piezo buzzer)
Two crocodile clips

Great PNW band. Saw them at Quest Uni here in Squamish BC many years ago. Very fun show. Made me a fan. Glad your finally playing them.

From an article in the Willamette Weekly (March 26, 2013 "The Girls With The Golden Egg" linked from the Wikipedia page):
And Shook Twins have become known for their joyous live performances that include some unusual homemade instrumentation—including, yes, a giant golden egg.
The egg was a gift of sorts, bestowed on the twins after seeing a gentleman in Seattle standing with it under his arm. They asked him about it, and he said he was told to take it, sign his name on it and then pass it along to someone else. The Shooks have turned it into a huge shaker by poking popcorn kernels into its hollow center through a small hole. Now, at every show, the egg gets a spot on center stage and is occasionally called on to provide percussion. The intention, of course, was for the twins to pass the egg along to a new owner at some point, but according to Laurie, it "will be given away in my will."
"We're still waiting for whoever started this whole thing with the egg to come forward and tell us how it came to be," she says. "But there aren't any rules to this thing. They didn't tell me when I had to give it away. So I think I'm going to hold on to it and let it fulfill its destiny."

Man - that was a great transition. 2 Cellos/Hurt -> this.
Every so often its nice to be reminded of the reasons I love RP. Intelligent playlisting is just one of them...

This is really growing on me. I especially like the saw...
They are talking about hothouse tomatoes, right?
I'm offline for 10 days and what do I come back to at my favorite (only atm) 'radio station'? The Shook Twins...again. Lol. Guess if I'm gonna have to listen to 'em all the time I better watch that video someone recommended and learn to like 'em better.
cool, thanks

Try this vid of them playing the song live, which sounds easily as good as the studio version, if not better. It's a mark of a good band, IMO, that they can play as well live as in the studio. As well as having sweet voices, the twins sure are purty . 8 from the smitten Nottingham jury.

It's fairly decent, but would sound better if I was sipping some moonshine.
Diggin' it.
I'm all Shook up—even though I like the banjo & saw.

liked it at first (dozen times or so) but my rating curve on this one is plummeting.
maybe a video would increase my interest but i'm afraid rp's just burned me out with this one.
even the saw playing (if it is one) is really getting old.

Love the cover art
Saw them in a small Colorado town at a Mountain Fair and was blown away, seriously killer cover of a Talking Heads tune as well.

I was wondering the same thing -- musical saw or what? -- so just went ahead and asked the Shooks. Laurie Shook emailed me back and said: "It is indeed a musical saw. And it's played by Joey Goforth." So there you have it!
(Whoever first suggested a theremin, though: that was a very cool suggestion, certainly not one I could have come up with!)

I love the sound of this song, which to my aged mind is channelling the Arkansas Chugabug from Wacky Races :o)
I like this. They remind me a whole lot of The Pierces, another duo of sisters.
I really like this song...would love to be able to see the lyrics!

But wouldn't a saw really fit with these two folksy women from the PNW? I have never seen a saw played in real life, only on TV, and that was 15 years ago.
Listened a little closer, and I do believe that I was wrong. A theremin (or something very similar) it is.

Love this band ..
Play some more of this band. Cool sound, eh?
Anybody else sees some similarity with Nigel Creek? Definitely upbeat and inspired. More, please.
Love watching brilliant musicians while enjoying a proper ale.
