I think this is a lovely ballad, expressively and movingly sung.

I'm always mesmerized by Richard Thompson. His ballads tell an engaging story, with interesting turns of phrase, with wonderful finger picking. I guess looking by the ratings distribution that you are either into that - or not.

I kind of get the Wizard bit.  Getting into this tune is a bit of a challenge for me, but I really appreciate that we're hearing new RT on RP. Thompson has created an impressive and important body of work over the past 40+ years, and I certainly want to hear what he's currently up to.  That's why I tune in.

I'll listen to Richard Thompson over Josh Groban ANY time. The various colors, moods and timbres of his rich lyrics, guitar work and heartfelt vocals have depth and truth. A true artist and not just a marketing machine.
