My brain makes drugs to keep me slow,
A hilarious joke for some dead pharaoh.
But now, not even the masons know
What drug will keep night from coming.
There are so many tools that are made for my hands.
But the tide smashes all my best-laid plans to sand.
And there's always someone to say it's easy for me,
But I revenge myself all over myself.
There's nothing you can say to me.
You never held it at the right angle,
You never held it at the right angle,
Catch a, catch a, catch a, catch a falling star,
But wash your hands of it
Catch a, catch a, catch a, catch a falling star
Because you can't hold it.
Did they poison my food? Is it cause I'm a girl?
If I puked up some sonnets, would you call me a miracle?
I'm gonna go where my urge leads no more.
Swallowed, waist-deep, in the gore of the forest
A boreal feast, let it finish me, please.
Cause I revenge myself all over myself.
There's nothing you can do to me.
You never held it at the right angle,
You never held it at the right angle,
Catch a, catch a, catch a, catch a falling star,
But wash your hands of it
Catch a, catch a, catch a, catch a falling star
Because you can't own it.
You never held it at the right angle,
You never held it at the right angle.
You never held it,
You never held it,
You never held it, oh...
You never held it,
You never held it,
You never held it, oh...

She is the bomb!
I find annoying and repetitive

I wish she were singing in a language other than English (or French), because I like her voice and the music, but her nonsense lyrics always give me the ick. O well, my loss I'm sure. Still give it a 7.
Nothing to be done when your plans, your relationships and such, don't match the solutions needed. Wrong angle, bad drugs, whatever. It's the skewed perspective that, unintentionally or not, smashes all best plans to sand. A great turn of a phrase by the way.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, man. I'm just playing with words. Obtuse or acute, right or wrong, I wish you the best!

NICE!!
She could sing anything and I would like it.
Kinda weird but pretty good...
I was going to write a song today but now I don't have to because I've held it at the right angle.

To beat a very dead horse, I understand what you are saying. I understand that Neko is saying that whoever the object of her disdain is is not holding something at the angle that she would like said person to hold it at. My original question was whether the angle needed to be made less acute or less obtuse. In other words, which direction would Ms. Case like for the said object to be moved in order to achieve the angle that she prefers for whatever task is being done here. Grammarcop said that neither movements were needed, which doesn't make sense because that would imply that the angle currently being held is indeed correct, which contradicts what Neko has repeatedly told us throughout this song, namely that "you never held it at the right angle." Perhaps my use of the words "acute" or "obtuse" was not strictly correct. Perhaps I should have asked instead whether she would like the angle to be more or less acute.
Anyhow, when I hear this song I just want her to tell me what to do to make her happy instead of just saying it is wrong and not offering a solution.
Understood.

As others have noted here, LPs are comin' back (not for me, thank God). There was a lot of angst back in the day when CDs pushed vinyl off to the back rooms...dude, what about the cover art!?!? For a while CDs came in long boxes to address that issue, but then people started to complain about the waste of printed cardboard.
Now...cover art is the least of a recording artist's worries. Try getting people to buy any of your work instead of stealing it off the Web or Spotify, which isn't exactly generous in its royalties. Cover art? Get someone to make an animated, interactive Web page/site instead.
As I prepare to transfer way too many CDs to digital FLAC files—and in the process sell off the CDs, I'm looking at Neko's album art and wonder once the CD is farmed off to oblivion, will there ever be album art again? After all, music files are things you listen to, not look at. Too bad if that's the case. I like, and in some instances love, album art.

There's still album art because people are making vinyl again. Owning something like Zeppelin IV on vinyl, after years of CDs, and having the full-size art is wonderful. It may not be the main medium but I think books, records etc. will stick around. Kind of makes me think I should get this one, come to think of it...Fine song.

Yes album art, especially on LP's definitely added to the experience and artistic direction of the artist(or the record company marketing dept!) . I recently saw a quote on a vinyl forum '... everyone remembers their first LP, who can remember their first download... ?'

I usually don't like it when lyrics get posted, but man, I'm glad I saw those. I'm not a huge Neko fan (when she's off-key it really is annoying), but those are some fantastic lyrics. Kudos.
I have no idea what kind of alternate reality you live in, but Neko has never sung off key in any way shape or form.
So just reach down deep and grab all your musical knowledge and do what seems right with it.

Neko was suffering a bit from some sort of a head cold but sounded fantastic. She had trouble a couple of times hitting some notes but when that happened Kelly Hogan would step in quickly and hit them for her. Fun show.

My brain makes drugs to keep me slow,
A hilarious joke for some dead pharaoh.

Great outdoor concert this summer. After several encores and leaving the stage the final time, they noticed the harvest moon rising behind the stage. They came back and sang I Wish I Was the Moon.
An amazing collection, hers. Lovely, lovely stuff.

1) Artists who play a festival like ACL have to sign a clause that says that they will not book another show within a certain distance and time of the festival. Basically to protect the festival from people like me who just want to see a small few of the artists and don't want to pay for a three day ticket. I noticed that a lot of artists played shows in Dallas and/or Houston which are each 150-200 miles away, but not in San Antonio which is only about 60 miles away.
2) She did play a show - a taping of the Austin City Limits TV show. Tickets were free. You get them by paying attention to their Facebook and quickly responding when they announce a show. I don't use Facebook and only found out about the show after all tickets where gone.
So, keep an eye out for her ACL TV show.
She played the Austin City Limits festival this past weekend and will be back for next weekend's version, but I can't bring myself to deal with that 3 day mess anymore (I went from 04-07 and yes I am getting old). I was hoping that she'd have a show sometime during the "off" week but nothing that I can find. Her sidekick Kelly Hogan does have a show on her own but no Neko Case solo show.
I do have tickets for the Patty Griffin show this week so I'm still a happy man.

Alpha Blondie to Neko Case... Okay...
A true artist with no pretense. Saw her in Chicago. She came out ready to play and no frills...no rockstar crap. She just played and entertained. Understated talent and great show!
As someone said commenting on a previous song of hers: "She could sing me the phonebook." Same here. An 8 at first blush.
Minimally obtuse.
Neko Case: 'I Couldn't Really Listen To Music'
Love the cover. Neko vs. the Shrieking Eels! I'd pay to see that.
I love her voice and the fact that most of her songs hit that dark, minor note thing that sucks me in everytime. Thanks for playing her Bill!
