From the sound of your own voice
Calling no one, just a silence
Run to see you at the edge
Fall off the avalanche
Turn away
Hold hold the light
That fixes you in time
Keeps you under
Takes you over the wall
That love divides between waking and slumber
Turn away
Turn turn away
From the weight of your own past
It's magic for the devil
And betray the lack of change
Once you have spoken
Turn away
Just listen to the music......who really cares about all that other stuff.
Keep politics & beliefs OUT of music if you truly appreciate.
While I agree that RP is probably not the best forum to argue about politics, to state that politics and beliefs should be left out of music is a bit of a stretch. Most of the greatest musical, and other types of artists, create works that espouse their own political and spiritual beliefs. They do so with the intention of getting their listeners to ponder and, yes, discuss politics and beliefs.
Love songs are great, but I, for one, would miss listening to songs by the artists that delve into other topics. And I, for one, truly appreciate music.
I do my best to separate the artist from the art. That said, I fail often enough to understand. For me, it's Tom Petty. He was, by most accounts, a truly awful person but I got to admit he could string chords together in an incredible way. Don't mess with Beck. He's a level 5 Thetan and can self-actualize your face until it's a puddle of goo.
Pfft. Nothing is overplayed here.
Sadly, this used to be true.
I dig his music, don't have any in my library. His Scientology taints his work......
Your taint is your business,

You keep saying "From his album Morning Change.."
But it is in fact "Morning Phase"
Sounds more like David Gilmore/PF to me. There's a lot more space in most S&G recordings.
Actually , the song following this one today is from Paul Simon.
I have never heard of this Islander. So for me Back is OK.
That's because it sounds exactly like them. Almost plagiarism in my book, in spirit if not actual, leagal, plagarism.
"Exactly"? Which song exactly? The vocals sound nothing like S&G. While it's very likely he was influenced by them (as were hundreds of recording artists), I suspect the definition of "plagiarism" in your book is pretty far-reaching.
Turn off your smartphone.
Turn off your iPad.
Minimize all screens on your computer (except radio paradise).
Take several deep breaths.
Put your earbuds in or your headphones on.
Listen-to the whole song (it's very hard, but try).
I'm sorry he made it so hard.
Very great suggestion, meatmike! I find I do this almost spontaneously each time it plays. Sorry work...ain't getting any done for the 3 minutes of this gem of a track. Long Live RP!!

Nobody is perfect.
That said, "scientology" seems little more than a pyramid scam.
The "beliefs" are risible and make Catholicism relatively rational.
I know who you are radioparadise9....The songs......the comments under different names...Smooth move Rockit Man!

I was thinking David Gilmour.
Same here.

Absolutely.
I was thinking David Gilmour.
Of all the artist featured on RP, I think Beck is the most "Baskin & Robbins" like, as he seems to feature a new "flavor" of music with each album, and even within an album. His Wiki page says his music "encompasses folk, funk, soul, hip-hop, alternative rock, country and psychedelia” and I’m not complaining…I love the vast variety, although often I’m left with a “what’s this?” feeling after hearing something of his.
This track though….I’m bumping it to a 9 today. Not sure if I can name many of his tunes (don’t get me started on ‘Loser’ though) although I usually find myself either skipping in disgust or thinking “wow Beck’s pretty good.”
As for the scientology issue….I don’t really give a damn….he can believe in Aliens having seeded the earth and yadayadayada….I’ll just enjoy his music. Long Live RP!!
Absolutely
Exactly. Grantchester meadows.
Also reminiscent of "Comfortably Numb".
Indeed! If the rest of the album is like this track, consider me investigating bek further.
It is an excellent album. Very powerful in an understated way.
Exactly. Grantchester meadows.
What the heck are you warbling on about? There's no auto tune here. Probably plenty of takes to get it right, is all. It's a beautiful song, just sit back and enjoy.
I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail. Which wasn't original to S&G either.

Cover photo shows a bit of age in his face- is it possible for this perpetually punky hipster to get old?

I quite like this album, give it a go :)
i know what you mean, it has after all been hours

He didn't say what else was in the garage...
I was just thinking that too
Oh, you want the meta discussion board! That's down the hall on the left.
well not all that is.....
Gee ...... 8 times in a month.....how horrible. Is driving my BMW more than 8 times a month bad.....nope. Is having sex more than 8 times a month bad.....nope. How about a BJ more than 8 times a month?....nope. Listening to an awesome song 8 times a month....so what's that....once every 3 or 4 days? Gee....how horrible :^ /

Logic moves not the crybaby.
Very nice album.
8 times in the last 30 days, that is indeed a lot for RP ! And the song is not even rated that high... it's good but not more than many.

OK... Spins me off wondering WTF does that mean-?
Too much coffee this morning-? Possibly. T
Indeed... it's really more like a suite that requires listening all of the way through. This is what I often do while preparing a weekend breakfast, as it really lends itself to early morning listening.
I bought the hi-res FLAC version from HD Tracks. I haven't yet listened to it on my high-end DAP (assuredly not a Pono—sorry, Neil), but look forward to doing so.
+1
But it! If you like this song, you will not be disappointed. In my opinion thesis his finest album to date and the one that I keep playing over and over. :)

The modalities reminiscent of all the best of the complex hidden in simplicities. Perfection of hundreds of years of Common Practise yet here barely perceived.
TdP...
Now see other listeners can hear early Simon & Garfunkel and David Gilmour...yes...
Couldn't agree more, I'm very surprised.
I heard a few notes from "El Condor Pasa."
Well, there are only 12 unique notes, but there is a similar feeling in part of the vocal melody, plus that minor-key thing.
That would be a great one for "stump the band"
Interesting. How so? In the guitar work or the slower pace?
The Sound of Silence - Similar descending melody line there.
Picked up this Beck CD - really enjoying it, wonderful CD. Very, very mellow.

Yup, came here to post this same observation. This track could be quietly slipped onto "Division Bell" or something.
I find it to be very much like Gilmour and was rather surprised to see this is Beck. I wonder if his skin turns color to match his surroundings. Has anyone observed this? Maybe a careful examination of photos is in order.
