It's simple and eternal
The sum of where we're made
Across the land we circle
Inside is where we're raised
As nations keep on marching
As borders break and fall
The guardian eye is watching
The hawk who sees it all

I know you're aching to move on
It doesn't matter where you are when you belong

Something close to love
But more mysterious
I'll hold you in the shadow of my arms
Always close to love
But more victorious
Can you feel this empire being born
The pull of where you're from is far too strong

It's honest and it's brutal
There's beauty in its strength
It's never less than truthful
It's born from innocence

Break through the web that I have spun
It doesn't matter where you are when I am gone

Something close to love
But more mysterious
I'll hold you in the shadow of my arms
Always close to love
But more victorious
Can you feel this empire being born
The pull of where you're from is far too strong

Always close to
Always close to
Always close to
Always always

Something close to love
But more mysterious
I'll hold you in the shadow of my arms
Always close to love
But more victorious
Can you feel this empire being born
The pull of where you're from is far too strong

Voice immaculate and so is her beauty!
Doesn't have a nice beat and you can't dance to it

Umm, that isn't Sophie Ellis Bextor it's Minnie Driver - or did you know that and I'm being dense?

No, you're not  dense, but yes, I was being a smart-ass, as usual. I couldn't help noticing SEB's similarity to Minnie D, so I made the goofy comment. Cheers, HG.

"Heartbrake" is good.

On my quiet computer speakers this sounded something like Metric. I like and turned it up!
I was an indie kid, The Audience were an indie band that she made made a bit special - loved them! She's done a lot of great music since, mainly for the dance floor/ kitchen! I take my hat off to her.

...if Florence didn't always sing in ALL CAPS.

Her Wiki photo kinda reminds me of Regina Spektor.
Without the blue lips.
I love this. Thought it was Nightwish or Within temptation or something like that. So surprised to see it's Sophie.

Well I liked it. Had to have a look to confirm it was SEB's English warble.
I came here to comment that I thought this was a Renaissance tune I hadn't heard before, and I see I'm not alone in hearing the simalarity. I like it!
Please stop playing this!
That's Terrrrrrible (Schrott, Mist)!!!{#Frustrated}
A bit too bombastic for me. Nothing against SEB per se, as a pop act, but this one is just a little bit over the top...
Straight from memory

Those were the days my friend
we thought they'd never end
we'd sing and dance forever and a day
those were the lives we'd choose
we'd fight and never lose
those were the days oh yes those were the days

My better half saw Ms Bextor live and said the show was very enjoyable.  But then she also enjoyed Steps ...
I'd never even heard of her, before this. Pretty and pretty good.
Last time I heard her was on the telly years ago singing some pop song. Never thought I'd hear her singing this.
Agreed reminded me of Renaissance, like Annie but more plain and much less bass guitar driven
i was so surprised to read the interprets name.

(though at the end i heard 'always lobster' instead of 'always close to' and i kind of liked that. 😊reminded me of that 70s psychorocksong that's sometimes played on RP)

That's what I thought too. Merged with some Evanescence, maybe?

Nice....thought it was Led Zeppelin before she started singing.
A proggy tune, I like it! Quite astounding to hear her singing a song from this genre.
The virgins os IS singing!

TEEEEEEEEEERRIBLE!!!!

See you in 2033 - I'll be wearing a red top-hat and a turquoise cravat.

Yes and her knees are knobbly and there's a blemish behind her left ear. These things are so important on the radio. Get her off now! How does Bill think he can get away with it...

Wow, there is a band I have not heard in ages.  And come to think about it I agree.

Really need to dig out my old vinyl.
RP should be so much better than this tosh.
I like her voice; she's rather cute; the song's rather interesting.
Really catching my ear!

The slug on my salad, the pube in my soup!
"Satellite dish face" has no place here.
I don't care about the quality of her song writing/playing staff, send her back to the disco!
Not bad, probably deserves a blue peter badge at the very least.
I've always liked her voice...Reserving Judgment...

I do like a woman with a big vibrato.
I love her unique voice. I have heard a few tracks off this album which I like better than this one.
that was interesting but will need to marinate with the test of time..
She starts out with a lot of credit to me just for her fabulous, warm, sexy vocals on "Murder on the dancefloor".
Just learning that she made a new album at all (I had no idea) makes me curious; I just got the last minute of the song, but it seems to me she's trying to do something original.
I'll have to listen to more of this, but I'm giving her a 7 as benefit of doubt ;)
Funny how she includes some of the cyrillic alphabet on the cover.  Those are not even close to their correct pronunciations by the way.
Something in her voice I like... 6 -> 7 this week.
...curious; kind of reminds me of bertie blackman...
