Deep, deep down under mountains I have heard them call my name,
Will I play their little game and tell them
Deep, deep down I've been waiting for the fighting to begin,
Hold my hands up.
Deep sleep now under skies of pressing dark upon my dress,
Watch it turn from white to red under the
Bone clean moon I am clinging to this burning, shaking bed
Must I hold my hands up,
My bloody hands up.
Mercy, mercy I've been caught
Lying with my darkest thought
They grabbed my wings and pinned me to the wall.
Oh light please try to hold your ground
Lift me up before I drown
The din creeps 'neath my skin and I can't hear no goodness speak.
From the neighbouring town there's a boy that comes to sing upon our
street,
I watch him from the window thinking
Deep, deep down he'd be richer if he just became a thief.
Still he holds his hands out.
I walk down to the river stand and shiver in the wind
Throw stones and watch them sink into the
Icy blue, let it rise about my ankles.
I don't want this darkness
But the sun just falls from it's sky.
Mercy, mercy...
Will I play their little game and tell them
Deep, deep down I've been waiting for the fighting to begin,
Hold my hands up.

Good to hear this again. I never knew who the artist was. Thanks, Bill
I love Rachel Sermanni! I got to meet her a few years ago when she came to the US on a short tour. I was lucky Baltimore was one of the places she visited and it's only about an hour drive from DC. My phone died that week so the same day I went I bought a GPS at best buy and actually went to a show without a cell phone! Found my old powershot camera and she was SO NICE in person. I got a book signed by her and as I was leaving she made sure to give me a hug on my way out. One of the nicest people I ever met and a great voice too!!
Nice words Rachel, don't ever forget the roots whence they came. At the same time, I know that you could do far better at capturing your audience. Stay with it - from an old professor
For some reason that song had me walking around the house checking to see if I might have left three radios going on three different stations.
Love the voice, very lilting, nice song, and WOW, what cool, fantastically trippy cover art!

just another baba bebe speach singer like Nelly Fourtado started with. I give her one year and the max of 2.

Nice violin accompanying.
I don't know why but this song is just so spooky. Maybe it's the odd glissando strings in the background. The whole album is a bit unsettling (but in a good way). I've heard this described as 'folk noir' which sounds about right.

That prediction might carry more weight if you weren't talking about a song from four years ago.

You can almost kinda sorta hear a KT Tunstall voicing in this song.
Love the cover

Funny that Bill mentioned she's from Scotland. I watched this older documentary on Donald Trump and how he 'bullied' his golf course/resort into this small town near Aberdeen. It's been on my mind all weekend. Titled "You've Been Trumped".

Hmm, Trump has been around here of late opening some Tower or other.
In my parents' house, "trump" was what one did after eating too many baked beans.

This woman blows me away - can't wait to hear more from her.
Its on my radar, I like her voice.
Thought it might be Bat For Lashes.
This is a bit snoozy IMHO.
This is quite a likable tune - a sweet voice with a lovely Highlands lilt. The cover art is interesting.
That one sounded alright.. Missed it till it was just about done.. Need another listen Bill..
