And the sand it was a grayer shade of blue
Spirits held desire while my eyes they did admire
The evening that we only thought we knew
Further out to sea I heard the birds wings over me
the Vibrations in the air to my ears
The sun was rising slinking low the day was saddled up to go
The desert's lonely nightfall disappears
The raven who flies through the desert skies
Is wiser than you or me
The birds have a peace, the stillness a sleeve
And the Desert Raven he has poetry
Close your eyes and fly to let the diamonds make the night
Crystal blue will turn to ruby red
The plants become a maze under the heavens stary hazel
Pegasus he gallops overhead
The buffalo at night they follow close the river's edge while
saffron slowly grows inside the caves
The starry minds of hyacinth the moon below the sun's eclipse
The sandy canyon floats beyond the waves
The raven who flies through the desert skies
Is wiser than you or me
The birds have a peace, the stillness a sleeve
And the Desert Raven he has poetry

Wow!!!
It's a Mega Mashup!
I get it. This song has a very classic psychedelic feel. I was also thinking it seemed familiar, and that it would be much older. Very unexpected. Definitely enjoying this. Trippy!
A classic feel, indeed: It feels to me a little like Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green.

Wow!!!
What about the Allman Brothers (at times)?
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
"I" is correct. Remove the "you" and add the verb and it would clearly read "wiser than I am," not "wiser than me am." The raven would know.
Is this a conditional clause I or II?
Grammar police on duty.
thank you William!!
If i didn't knew it i would thave thought it was something from the 1960's

When the next course in English starts, pray tell me? At least 3 persons are interested: me, myself and I.
I'm very happy I remembered what this song reminded me of... 🌵🐎
America - a horse with no name
I am also very happy you remembered which song this reminds me of.
it would have driven me bonkers...
thank you for sharing!

there's a similar hook in another song, the lyric goes "oooo la la la...." and then something about a rainbow...i can't think of the rest. it's driving me crazy.
Wait,! whoah! I could have sworn I heard this in my childhood! I am stone cold sober, but this has tripped me the heck out.
Taking me a while to process that Jonathan Spencer Wilson is younger that I am.
Normally I would feel the need for expletives to properly express how this song hit me.
as it is I am using line spacing and any other gimmick I can think of to convey how strongly this song felt like something I heard long ago and many times. In a good way.
Sorry for the rambling and grammatically incorrect words.
i agree. it's got some kind of - pardon the generalization - "yacht-rock" vibe...in a good way. i thought the exact same thing. it's very familiar, though i've never heard it before.
Ok, this is a stretch …. But this reminds me of the FEEL of Jakob Dylan’s’Echo in the Canyon’. You gotta listen / watch it - it is an amazing period piece. But young Jakob does a beautiful job of interpreting the late 60s / early 70s in Laurel Canyon. And this has that wonderful vibe
If you like that, check out this 2-part doc on Laurel Canyon!
Stop! You're both right. Than can be used both as a subordinate conjunction or a preposition.
RP is great because of posts like this.
The irony of wanting to listen to this on vinyl via a valve amp and cardboard woofers...
I've set RP to FLAC and am listening on tiny office computer loudspeakers. I'm trying to push an elephant through the eye of a needle...
You do have a great idea with this song!

I hear ya. I'm picking up some Stephen Stills. This is quite good.
reminds me of a bob welch fleetwood mac tune
this exactly, very Bob Welch vibe, me likely very muchy

I second the America reference
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
nope. Wiser than you (are) or I (am). seems grammar is becoming irrelevant but correct someone only when you are correct.
...just saw tinypriest got here first. thanks - and we realize that 'me' was used for a rhyme.
Such a great song. The lead guitar does remind me a bit of Fleetwood Mac's Sunny Side Of Heaven...and thats a good thing. Mr Wilson is brilliant....
Yep. I keep hearing the Bob Welch version of Fleetwood Mac.
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
Correct would be "wiser than you or I" -- as in, "she is wiser than I am"; not, "wiser than me is"...
This guy is definitely a time traveler from 1972.
The only thing missing is a nice sax solo and maybe a little more cowbell.
I'm very happy I remembered what this song reminded me of... 🌵🐎
America - a horse with no name
Reminds me more of Tin Man by America. But yeah, definitely the same vibe...
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
Thanks - tricky stuff sometimes. I guess if "than" is a preposition, then "me" is correct as you point out. However, if "than" is a conjunction, then "I" would be correct with the missing/implied word being "am". "Wiser than you or I am".

I almost hit the skip ahead button! (Glad I didn't.)
Same here -- just upgraded my rating from 3 to 7 😊
Love it.
This is so nice.
Melody: Jerry Garcia
Arrangement: Fairport Convention (?)

It the Laurel Canyon influence.

I was thinking it would fit nicely onto Pink Floyd's Meddle.
And a bit of phrasing from Yes, The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus) back in the 70's.
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
Oooh, beating Proclivities at his own game.
Chalk one up for pheavey70! ; )

I hear a lavish dollop of Moody Blues running through it. Justin Hayward-like vocals and the floaty whimsicality redolent of my groovy 70s experience. Nice.
Ich verstehe es. Dieses Lied hat ein sehr klassisches psychedelisches Gefühl. Ich dachte auch, dass es mir bekannt vorkam und dass es viel älter sein würde. Sehr unerwartet. Auf jeden Fall genießen. Trippy!
Actually, "wiser than you or me" is correct
Object of the preposition, just like they taught (some of) us in grammar school. Oh, wait... they don't dare call it that any more, wouldn't be accurate. GRADE school.
As far as we know, there are only two other groups of species that are capable of this advanced thought: humans and the great apes.
Seems humans might be losing this ability with the advent of one click instant gratification on our mobile devices. Who needs to delay when you can have it all now?
I like this song. -> 9
The raven would probably know that grammatically, the lyric should be "...wiser than you or I". Maybe that was the songwriter's point though.

I hear a little CSNY FWIW. The song grows with additional listens so it cannot be that bad.
I concur with all parallels above and below... and now I'm even hearing David Gilmour singing this with early Floyd
Thanks RP for introducing me to someone I may never have heard otherwise. Again.
You are not the only one! Nor are we, apparently. I know I've heard that stringy guitar sound long ago, have never been able to place it ... maybe an old Seals & Crofts B-side or something. Anyway, it bugs me every time this excellent track comes on. 8.
or old, old Fleetwood Mac....

Please make it stop
Through the sunset in your eyes
Trying to make the train
Through clear Moroccan skies

Double Wow! I'm rating it an 8, +1 for the large number of "sounds like" artists - and it really does sound like it came from the 70s. Crazy good stuff here!
